  1. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:00 pm:

    Here we go…

  2. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:04 pm:

    Quincy-what a surprise first question.

  3. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:05 pm:

    Rauner failed…

    This will be a theme.

Rauner tries to rehab the handling of Quincy… attacks the attacks.

  4. - AlfondoGonz - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:07 pm:

Pritzker offers very generic answers early, which, thankfully, should be more than enough.

    Rauner is just the worst.

  5. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:07 pm:

Pritzker tries to deflect property taxes… yikes.

Rauner goes after Pritzker on “fraud and corruption” and gors criminal…

Fundamental error by Pritzker Crew becomes easy target

  6. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:08 pm:

The toilet answer was not handled well. After all this time JB still babbling “I did nothing wrong”.

  7. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:08 pm:

Pritzker unloads on “failures”…ticking off many

  8. - AlfondoGonz - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:09 pm:

I don;t get Rauner’s “the supermajority could have fixed my catastrophic mistake” argument.

    1. That’s deeply misleading
    2. Why leave it to the “supermajotity” to clean up?
Oh, right. “I’m not in charge.”

  9. - Ole' Nelson - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:10 pm:

JB hammering home Bruce Rauner failed.

  10. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:10 pm:

Rauner wants rollback of taxes… no real plan to why.

Pritzker goes after tax system… Rauner interrupts, laughs,

  11. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:11 pm:

Rauner shoulda kept quiet. His broadside gave JB a chance to break from toilets to talk about Rauner’s failures.

  12. - Responsa - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:11 pm:

    Thank you Craig Wall. Boom.

  13. - Ole' Nelson - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:12 pm:

Rauner has crazy eyes. Seems like a man being forced to face his own failure.

  14. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:13 pm:

Fundamental error of not mentioning rates… Rauner steps on easy hit by interrupting.

Can’t talk policy that requires specifics

Pritzker looks to be searching for answers.

  15. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:13 pm:

Looks like BTIA(TM) figured out this time they could use their phones to send tweets during a debate rather than watch “Family Guy” reruns. Even the louie guv is in on the act.

  16. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:13 pm:

JB following Edgar’s advice on tax rates.

  17. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:14 pm:

Never understood why the Pritzker Crew went here without rates to make due.

    Yikes.

  18. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:16 pm:

Rauner now coming off angry, not pleased to talk about himself.

Throws racism, Rod, not holding anything back.

  19. - AlfondoGonz - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:16 pm:

Rauner is flailing. JB isn’t saying anything.

  20. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:17 pm:

Pritzker seems a bit off-rhythm…. talks about creating jobs.

  21. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:17 pm:

Rauner is almost out of breath…

  22. - anon2 - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:18 pm:

Both have accused the other of lying, and both are correct.

It’s doubtful that Democrats in the General Assembly would vote for a graduated income tax hike on Joe Sixpack, while a millionaires’ surtax would get support from almost all Democrats and zero Republicans.

Rauner grew up in affluent Deerfield, not exactly a blue collar ‘burb.

  23. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:19 pm:

    Angry Bruce is unlikable.

  24. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:19 pm:

Pritzker answers money question in politics real well… better than i thought.

  25. - Responsa - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:19 pm:

Moderators so far are doing a pretty darn good job of focusing on the hardball questions I want answered and managing the time limits.

  26. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:21 pm:

Rauner talks about “spends the most usually loses”

“Trust fund baby, Rod”, angry, angry, angry…

  27. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:22 pm:

Rauner goes property taxes… “Scheme to Defraud”

    Own oppo error.

  28. - anon2 - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:22 pm:

Inherited wealth is a bad thing, Bruce? Then why do Republicans want to abolish the estate tax? Why is their President a trust fund baby?

  29. - anon2 - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:24 pm:

JB should hit Rauner with his three homestead exemptions for years, which also cheated the retired teacher in Cook County.

  30. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:24 pm:

Pritzker… “abide by the rules”… Rauner interrupts, ruining the point.

    Rauner giving no breathing room.

    Rauner lists “criminal” issues.

    Pritzker… goes Willowbrook issue.

  31. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:24 pm:

Rauner accuses Pritzker of trying to buy the office.

    Can’t make that stuff up.

  32. - Ole' Nelson - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:24 pm:

I don’t get the leaked memo defense from JB. Seems to make him look guilty to me.

  33. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:24 pm:

Correct, JB didn’t answer Rauner’s question.

  34. - AlfondoGonz - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:25 pm:

I can’t imagine anyone watching this likes either of these guys.

    That means Rauner loses.

  35. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:26 pm:

    Hes almost crying

  36. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:26 pm:

You can’t tell the truth. If that isn’t the pot calling the kettle black I don’t know what is

  37. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:26 pm:

Pritzker gets Rauner talking quick again… Rauner trying to seem removed.

    Pritzker making point with Willowbrook

  38. - AlfondoGonz - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:26 pm:

Alan K. doing a nice job.

  39. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:27 pm:

Hmmm…haven’t we seen documents here that say Rauner still has an interest in Sterigenics?

  40. - Responsa - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:27 pm:

lol both sides accuse the other of “politicizing” issues. It’s an election dudes. We get it. Answer the questions.

  41. - Lucky Pierre - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:28 pm:

Bruce Rauner doesn’t own Steriogenics. The company was sold in 2015

Is JB responsible for every action of every company he has an indirect investment in?

  42. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:29 pm:

Rauner gives answer on guns, talks gun trafficing.

Pritzker - veto of 72 hour hold. Budget - programs hurt to gun violence.

  43. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:30 pm:

“Supermajority” budget answer by Rsuner makes Rauner look weak.

  44. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:32 pm:

So far, i have a “draw”… that doesn’t help Rauner.

Property tax hit(s) on Pritzker keeps Rauner in play.

  45. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:32 pm:

LP, if that’s true, why did he list it on his 2018 economic interest statement?

  46. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:33 pm:

–Bruce Rauner doesn’t own Steriogenics. The company was sold in 2015–

What “company was sold in 2015?”

Are you pretending you know what you’re talking about here?

  47. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:36 pm:

Rauner talks “absolute no doubt” for death penalty… seems more like a wish.

  48. - Ole' Nelson - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:37 pm:

You mean death penalty if there is really, really, really no doubt, Governor. Phew, that makes me more confident.

  49. - Seriously? - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:37 pm:

Does anyone else see that Rauner’s eyes go immediately to a cue source as he answers? It’s a laser focus. Are either of them wearing earpieces?

  50. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:39 pm:

Pension funding-no answer from JB. Rauner pushes consideration, which doesn’t save money if constitutional.

  51. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:39 pm:

Pensions… Pritzker seemed thoughtful, maybe not complete… Rauner trying to box Pritzker, talks “options” for pensions.

  52. - Lucky Pierre - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:41 pm:

Rauner’s ties to the company date to 2011, when a private equity firm he co-founded bought Sterigenics for $675 million and quickly expanded its operations. The governor’s most recent state ethics statement, filed in May, shows he retains an interest in the fund used to buy the sterilization company, which in 2015 sold a majority stake to another private equity firm.

On Friday morning, Rauner told radio station WBEZ he no longer has a stake in Sterigenics. Spokespeople for his campaign and government office later told the Tribune that Rauner sold his interest as part of the 2015 deal but have not produced documents showing the transaction took place.

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-met-bruce-rauner-sterigenics-shutdown-20181002-story.html

  53. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:42 pm:

    Rauner goes “Madigan”…

    Pritzker talks Rauner lacking compromis

  54. - Responsa - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:43 pm:

JB completely ignored/blew off the milage tax issue raised by Rauner. Moderater didn’t push it cause time was up. But it’s hanging out there with no response by Pritzker and is going to be obvious to viewers who would like to know where JB stands on this.

  55. - anon2 - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:43 pm:

Republicans share responsibility for the 7,000 units of local government. I have yet to hear a GOP legislator, for example, advocate abolishing townships.

  56. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:43 pm:

Higher Ed… Rauner deflects to K-12…

    Not great.

  57. - Demoralized - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:44 pm:

    LP:

Do you blame the Governor for anything? Or is absolutely nothing his fault? You want to know what a victim is? That’s a victim.

  58. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:44 pm:

Alan K calls Rauner out for deflecting on Higher Ed…

Pritzker pounds on budget / Higher Ed

  59. - Demoralized - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:45 pm:

He’s going to do the same thing in his second term for higher education? You mean like not funding them?

  60. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:45 pm:

So, LP, the written record says he still holds the interest. I’ll rely on that, thanks.

  61. - Pundent - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:46 pm:

Rauner’s put himself in this position. He’s a governor with no accomplishments to run on. Which allows Pritzker to continually “remind” us of Rauner’s failures.

  62. - Demoralized - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:46 pm:

So, increase funding by cutting revenues. Great plan Governor.

  63. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:48 pm:

    AA, ditto on Sterigenics.

Selling a “majority stake” does not equal “no financial interest.”

  64. - Lucky Pierre - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:48 pm:

The Governor’s holdings are in a blind trust

JB’s holdings are off shore in the Bahamas

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-jb-pritzker-bahama-offshore-shell-company-20180313-story.html

  65. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:49 pm:

    Uh, uh, uh…

  66. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:51 pm:

    ===The Governor’s holdings are in a blind trust===

… or discussed openly on the mansion porch… either one.

    LOL

  67. - Responsa - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:53 pm:

Sanctuary state non-answer not well done by JB. Trump!!!!!!

  68. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:55 pm:

The Madigan Question- Pritzker talks compromise, Rauner failures.

    Rauner talks MJM, Rauner wheelhouse.

  69. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:55 pm:

Blind Trust or not, the record is what it is, LP.

  70. - Responsa - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:55 pm:

Sanctuary state question evaded/not answered by JB.

  71. - Demoralized - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:56 pm:

All Madigan all the time. Does the Governor think his all Madigan all the time is going to move the needle? Because it hasn’t thus far.

  72. - Pundent - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:57 pm:

Four years of failure vs. give me one more term.

  73. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:57 pm:

    Pritzker goes positive close.

    Rauner goes negative close.

Rauner struggling thou trying to seem like the reasonable re-elect.

  74. - Demoralized - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:58 pm:

It’s been hard? That’s the excuse?

  75. - anon2 - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:58 pm:

“I will not serve a third term.” You won’t serve two, Bruce.

  76. - Henry Francis - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:59 pm:

    Adoption tax credits (exclamation point)

#4 on the Guv’s list of accomplishments.

  77. - Grandson of Man - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 6:59 pm:

Pritzker did better at the end. Rauner’s just being Rauner. Don’t know how this moves the needle much, if it hasn’t already.

  78. - Responsa - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:00 pm:

Despite the probably unavoidable tap dancing by the candidates on several issues this was one of the better, more revealing and most informative debates I’ve seen in a long time. Kudos to ABC and Univision.

  79. - Pundent - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:01 pm:

Let me finish what I started is a good closing message. Works better if you’ve started.

  80. - Lucky Pierre - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:01 pm:

The record is that Governor Rauner ,who is not a billionaire paid 91 million in income tax in 2016, and JB Pritzker, who is a billionaire 3 times over, paid 15 million in income tax in 2016 and is accused of defrauding Cook County taxpayers

  81. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:02 pm:

    Rauner did better than expected.

At this moment, Pritzker didn’t flat out lose the race.

Rauner doing better than expected doesn’t move 22 points.

    Pritzker should be pleased too.

  82. - TominChicago - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:02 pm:

LP. If Rauner still had a financial interest in Sterigenics that at least explains his administration’s disregard for the public health crisis the facility is. Under your construct, the administration is just tragically incompetent, kinda like its handling of Quincy. If that’s the narrative you want, run with it.

  83. - Demoralized - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:02 pm:

    ==Works better if you’ve started.==

    Lol. Exactly

  84. - Ole' Nelson - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:04 pm:

Nice move by JB at the end to extend his hand and say Governor. Establishing who the alpha male on the stage is.

  85. - Demoralized - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:04 pm:

    LP

You’re going to have to do better than that if you want the Governor to catch up.

  86. - Amalia - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:04 pm:

so here’s something I never thought I would think…Pritzker looks healthier than Rauner. astounding. maybe it’s that Rauner looks like he’s terrified and knows he’s losing. Or maybe the hair of Pritzker pops better on tv. but it’s striking how much better Pritzker looks, and acts. I dialed in half way into the debate, so I missed bits about toiletgate, but, despite my misgivings about JB, he did very well.

  87. - LakeviewJ - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:05 pm:

JB said he only paid the refund to Cook County because we’re a month out from the election. Does he have to report it as an in-kind contribution?

  88. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:05 pm:

Neither one was highly impressive imho. The recent revelations on both sides seemed to have them on edge.

I did learn the Luckybot 8000 ain’t programmed to debate.

  89. - Whatever - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:06 pm:

Lucky Pierre ==Bruce Rauner doesn’t own Steriogenics. The company was sold in 2015

Is JB responsible for every action of every company he has an indirect investment in? ==

JB does not own the house from which the toilets were removed, and he isn’t on any of the paperwork cited by the inspector general as containing false statements.

  90. - Grandson of Man - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:08 pm:

Doesn’t it bother Republican voters that Rauner tours investing public employee pensions and profiting with the people who advocate for and are part of the “corrupt system?”

  91. - Pundent - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:12 pm:

If you judge their performance solely on the issues of the day, toilets vs. Quincy, Rauner bested Pritzker. If you consider their vision for the state I’d give the nod to Pritzker. That’s that’s the consequence of being an incumbent with few accomplishments (adoption credits?) and an opponent who keeps “reminding” us of your failure.

  92. - Grandson of Man - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:20 pm:

One of my favorite moments was when Pritzker mentioned Rauner’s refusal to compromise on his own reforms.

  93. - btowntruth from forgottonia - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:25 pm:

    In baseball terms:
Rauner did very little for 8 innings.
    He entered the 9th tonight.
    Rauner needed a home run.
    He got a base hit.

  94. - Ole' Nelson - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:29 pm:

    JB weak on toilet issue.

Rauner weak on why we should give a failure four more years.

  95. - Help - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:30 pm:

Is there a link to debate? I just missed it

  96. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 7:31 pm:

–The Governor’s holdings are in a blind trust–

    No, they are not.

What else do you feel the need to be wrong about?

    https://www.politifact.com/illinois/statements/2017/oct/27/bruce-rauner/rauners-blind-trust-procedures-dont-excuse-lawsuit/

  97. - Arsenal - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 8:10 pm:

Nothing changed but the time left on the clock.

  98. - TinyDancer(FKASue) - Wednesday, Oct 3, 18 @ 8:17 pm:

    @Help

Click on the red “as we go along” at the top of this page.

  99. - revvedup - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 7:53 am:

Rauner: same old song and dance (Madigan, taxes, oblivious to facts on graduated income tax, toilets, I supported …. while defunding it). Rauner lost debate. JB has to keep maintaining his innocence on tax scheme in case criminal charges filed, also ducked and dodges (ADBA-style) immigration and tax plan. JB has issues, and a serious lead in many polls for a reason…he’s still not Bruce.
