Predictions?

*** UPDATE *** Pritzker campaign…

“The story of the Legionnaires’ Crisis at the Quincy Veterans’ Home is the story of a failed governor who cost people their lives,” said JB Pritzker. “Bruce Rauner cared more about headlines than heroes. We’ve seen this before. In Flint, Michigan, the Attorney General launched a criminal investigation into the contamination of the water. Now, 15 government officials have been charged and one is facing involuntary manslaughter charges. Here in Illinois, there’s now a criminal probe into the Rauner administration’s mismanagement in Quincy. When 14 Veterans and their family members die, when nearly 70 people get sick, when you wait days to tell people on the ground what’s going on, you better believe crimes were committed. This is criminal negligence that cost people their lives and it’s time we have a grand jury get to the bottom of this.”

Credit should be given to Rep. Stephanie Kifowit for this move by AG Madigan. From this week’s WBEZ piece

“All aspects of this need to be looked at through the criminal process, whether it be manslaughter, neglect, you name it,” said state Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, an Aurora Democrat and chief House sponsor of the disease notification bill.

Kifowit told me yesterday that she’s been pestering the attorney general since late August.

I would predict this kind of talk will turn off potential voters on both sides. I don’t think it will convince anyone about something Pritzker or Rauner may or may not have done.

“Don’t focus on what I did, focus on what the other guy did!”

  3. - Ron Burgundy - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 10:47 am:

I predict they’re not gonna like when they get more questions about the subject of the other’s event than their own.

  4. - Cheryl44 - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 10:49 am:

I don’t even know why Pritzker even agrees to these debates.

Dead vets trump property tax shenanigans.

==I don’t even know why Pritzker even agrees to these debates.==

Why not? You take a hit for ducking them, and they’re not really costing him anything.

  7. - Ducky LaMoore - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 10:52 am:

Typically, I pay attention to campaigns during the long haul, make my judgements, and generally disengage at a time when most voters are just beginning to engage. This seems like the appropriate time to follow my pattern. Uhh…

    Christopher - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 10:45 am:

Rauner wouldn’t have any voters if this turned everybody off

  9. - Flapdoodle - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 10:54 am:

I’m with Word — no one died because of Pritzker’s toilets

  10. - Cheryl44 - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 10:54 am:

    ==You take a hit for ducking them==

Instead of waste his time with this, he could be doing something constructive like talk to voters, or work in a soup kitchen for a couple of hours.

  11. - Henry Francis - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 11:00 am:

JB can cut a check and remedy his misdeed.

What can the Guv do to remedy his misdeed?

  12. - a drop in - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 11:03 am:

“no one died because of Pritzker’s toilets”

Does this work as a campaign slogan?

  13. - a drop in - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 11:04 am:

BTW: Rich, love your heading. Isn’t being a criminal a requirement for governor?

  14. - Grandson of Man - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 11:05 am:

Too bad Rauner can’t have the Pritzker scandal all to himself.

There is also the Sterigenics scandal and a pattern of fatal mismanagement and neglect going back to the nursing homes.

  15. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 11:07 am:

The toilets don’t have family members…

The families of the 14, they will be a stark contrast to cartoon posters on toilets.

  16. - Al - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 11:07 am:

Still crickets on the silly furniture building lease. Well you make a profit like that and there is grease to share with everybody. Ha ha. Has anything changed since the days of Governor Len Small? Perhaps. But certainly not as much as folks would like to think.

  17. - lakeside - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 11:07 am:

What would it be like to live in a state where two (or more) people with different visions of how to run a state have a more or less reasonable discussion about that vision, without the specter of at least one of the candidates going to jail or being investigated for unethical behavior now or during their tenure? We have been at various versions of this for decades.

‘No one died because of *my* shady behavior’ is about the best we’ve got.

    I am so tired.

  18. - Rabid - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 11:13 am:

One is a criminal investigation, the other is a calling out

  19. - A Jack - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 11:21 am:

Since Rauner is later in the day, he will likely be asked about things raised during the Pritzker conference, so Rauner will be put on the defensive. I hope we get a picture. That Rauner deer in the headlights look is always fun. Rauner needs someone to pull him off the fence.

  20. - Notorious RBG - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 11:21 am:

    “seven Illinois Congressman”

Does the BTIA(TM) ever proofread anything??

  21. - JS Mill - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 11:28 am:

=Dead vets trump property tax shenanigans.=

And Sterigenics. Don’t forget the poisoning of untold thousands that Rauner, in the governors own words, isn’t a public health crisis.

  22. - AlfondoGonz - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 11:29 am:

My prediction: 22 point swing worth of voters won’t even notice.

  23. - Anon0091 - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 11:33 am:

Rauner’s strategy has been so successful that the polls have moved from low teen JB margin to low 20s JB margin. Keep it up Bruce,

  24. - jake - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 11:56 am:

Stop the world, I want to get off

  25. - The Dude - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 12:06 pm:

What’s worse…dead vets or a tax evasion (that has been now made whole)…
I’m thinking the dead vets is way worse.

  26. - Lester Holt’s Mustache - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 12:08 pm:

==Instead of waste his time with this, he could be doing something constructive like talk to voters,==

He was at the Fullerton street L stop this morning, doing just that

  27. - Arsenal - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 12:11 pm:

==He was at the Fullerton street L stop this morning, doing just that==

The nice thing about not needing to fundraise is you have a few more hours in the day.

  28. - Glengarry - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 12:35 pm:

Ripped out toilets does not equal dead veterans.

  29. - Robert the Bruce - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 12:42 pm:

    Hilarious and accurate headline, Rich.

===Dead vets trump property tax shenanigans.===
They certainly should. But more voters may perceive themselves to be personally affected by the property tax dodging, since fewer dollars in from the billionaire means more dollars in from everyone else or fewer services.

  30. - Boone's is Back - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 12:56 pm:

===Pritzker, Rauner to hold press conferences today to call each other a criminal===

    LOL, tagline of the day.

  31. - Keyrock - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 1:30 pm:

I’m looking forward to the Stratton Building being renamed the Stratton Building. She’ll be a good governor.

  32. - Streator Curmudgeon - Thursday, Oct 4, 18 @ 2:11 pm:

I hope McCann isn’t expecting this to push him over the top.
