Erika Harold promises to be a “check on the Pritzker-Madigan agenda” in new ad

Wednesday, Oct 24, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Another very solid :15 ad from Erika Harold

* Script

I’m Erika Harold. If JB Pritzker is elected governor, he and Mike Madigan will have total control over state government. That much power in the hands of any one political party isn’t good for Illiniois. I’ll be a check on the Pritzker-Madigan agenda and work for you, not them.

…Adding… I told you this the other day

Can Harold win? The “wave” environment would suggest not, but if voters are looking for a check on JB Pritzker and Speaker Madigan and they can’t bring themselves to vote for Gov. Rauner, she might be a realistic option. At least, that’s what the Republicans are hoping for. It’s probably too bad she can’t just come right out and say that in an ad, but much of her money is coming from Rauner, so it’s unlikely that she can or will.

Well, her campaign found a way to do it.

    Very strong message.

Watching the other Republicans transition to a post-Rauner world 13 days out is quite something.

  2. - Nick Name - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:30 am:

What she’s describing is not part of the AG’s statutorily defined duties, is it? Raoul needs to counter this.

  3. - JS Mill - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:30 am:

Madigan apparently owns the space in Halrold’s head too. She has already conceded the governor’s election with this message.

Not a very good message for the ILGOP.

  4. - Montrose - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:31 am:

What Arsenal said. “We all know Rauner is going to lose. So, elect me as the lone Republican left in statewide office.”

  5. - Chicagonk - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:32 am:

This is really as good a reason as any to vote for Harold. I’m not one who believes bipartisanship is automatically better than one party having control, but in this case, I think it is important.

  6. - Ron Burgundy - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:35 am:

The way things are going, it is something she can sell.

  7. - Annonin' - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:37 am:

    Not much there
Exactly what does she plan to “check” Way to vague for someone already behind.

  8. - DuPage Bard - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:38 am:

So that’s it even Erika Harold agrees JB is going to be Governor?
That’s the final piece of the GOP triumvirate- Baise trying to decide what to do after Rauner’s gone, Jeanne saying flat out Bruce Rauner is losing, now Rauner’s hand picked candidate saying when JB is Governor she’ll be a check on him.

  9. - People Over Parties - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:42 am:

“now Rauner’s hand picked candidate saying when JB is Governor she’ll be a check on him.”

    She said “If”.

  10. - Donnie Elgin - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:42 am:

The ghost of HB-40 comes back to haunt Rauner

  11. - Roads Scholar - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:44 am:

So . . . “I know you’re voting for Pritzker, so also vote against him by voting for me.”

The “independent watchdog” angle makes sense. This is kind of dissonant to me.

  12. - Mr. Smith - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:45 am:

On one hand, a good ad for herself. On the other, the ILGOP can’t be very happy that she is openly accepting Pritzker as the next Governor. But she has to look out for her own campaign, and the starins of “Nearer, My God, To Thee” are already wafting through the Rauner camp.

I suspect this will sell VERY well downstate.

  13. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:56 am:

It is very simple. Erika Harold has run a very good campaign. Kwame has not. It could come down to this.

  14. - Cornfield Cowboy - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:58 am:

The new messaging against Rep. Phelps-Finnie is saying the same thing. Are all of the HGOP ads assuming Rauner is toast?

  15. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 11:04 am:

–I’ll be a check on the Pritzker-Madigan agenda and work for you, not them.–

Yeesh, there goes Boss Rauner under the bus, two weeks out.

    Money can’t buy you love.

  16. - DuPage Saint - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 11:07 am:

Well if some republican candidates are acting if Rauner is not going to win they are being more realistic than Rauner is

  17. - A guy - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 11:09 am:

It will be the “work of her life”.

  18. - Cheryl44 - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 11:29 am:

Good thing she has those pearls to clutch.

  19. - Annonin' - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 11:30 am:

Wonder if one of her “checks” will be to jump on the multi-state law suit to abolish ObamaCare? That suit tubes protection for pre-exisiting conditions. Whackos like Scott Walker(WI) and John Hawley (MO)are plaintiffs. Just askin’

  20. - Bobby Hicks - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 11:33 am:

So, are we to believe that she will be voting for some Democrats in the upcoming election? After all, she wouldn’t want all of the political power in the Republican’s control. That’s too much power for one party.

  21. - Robert the Bruce - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 11:57 am:

    Solid ad.

I wasn’t sure she’d go there, so openly suggesting that Pritzker might win. Smart move.

Should have a “Paid for by Bruce Rauner” message in the corner.

  22. - Huh? - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 12:47 pm:

Sounds like she is going to beholden to 1.4% and drumpf.

  23. - Steve Rogers - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 12:54 pm:

—That much power in the hands of any one political party isn’t good—

So, she must be voting for Betsy Londrigan?

  24. - DarkHorse - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 3:01 pm:

You wonder what the relationship is these days between Rauner and Harold - with this “rats jumping the sinking ship” ad. Did he know this was coming in advance? Is he ok with it? I thought they had the same political consultant, POS.

  25. - LZ truth - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 5:58 pm:

Per the State Board of Elections, Kwame Raoul taking approximately $100,000 from tobacco interests would be a great ad.

  26. - AlfondoGonz - Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 6:21 pm:

I still don’t see any statewide R overcoming the the wave.

  27. - Rabid - Thursday, Oct 25, 18 @ 5:18 am:

The last second chance for the turnaround agenda to secede. where is their pictures from the state fair together. Running against madigan like munger did don’t work
