  1. - Texas Red - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 9:55 am:

Local 150 must be so proud

  2. - Joey twoshoes - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 9:57 am:

Gubernatorial? Heck, I’d say he was being presidential

  3. - People Over Parties - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 9:58 am:

He seems like such a delight.

  4. - Robert the Bruce - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 9:58 am:

I hope Maxwell posts the video of McCann running.

  5. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 9:59 am:

McCann is just staying on message as the Trump candidate.

  6. - Retired Educator - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:01 am:

I think McCann has a right to answer or not answer. Just because you offer to interview does not mean everyone will comply. Maxwell get over yourself. The man doesn’t respect you as a journalist. Pretty simple to understand.

  7. - Real - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:02 am:

Lol McCann is a G. He don’t play around with folk.

  8. - People Over Parties - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:04 am:

    ===Lol McCann is a G===

Seems more like a thin-skinned stalking horse to me.

  9. - NeverPoliticallyCorrect - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:06 am:

And he wants to lead the state? Billionaires and bozos. What a set of candidates.

  10. - Real - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:08 am:

McCann also said this on twitter.

    “Sam McCann
    @mccann_sam
Not dodging. Simply declining. Not wasting another breath on you. You think the road to your future success is twisting fact into fiction. You are the epitome of the farce that modern day “journalism” has become. I have every right not to interview with you & I exercise that right”

I’m going to say I agree with McCanns right not to interview.

  11. - Are Ya Kiddin' Me? - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:08 am:

I’m with Retired Ed @ 10:01…He declined the interview…Maxwell is wrong here and really should get over himself or maybe be a better reporter than he has shown.

  12. - njt16 - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:11 am:

===I’m going to say I agree with McCanns right not to interview.===

And a journalist has every right to call him out as a public figure running for governor.

  13. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:11 am:

So, why are you voting Republican?

  14. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:12 am:

There are plenty of reporters who take this goading approach to candidates, trying to get a story out of every encounter they have.

But not everything is news. Just because you have a camera doesn’t mean they have anything to say.

The better ones recognize the very real differences between their role as reporters and the campaign oppo trackers whose job is only to embarrass the candidate they’re stalking.

  15. - AlfondoGonz - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:12 am:

I still cannot begin to understand how people can regard the type of behavior exhibited by people like McCann and Trump as anything but whiny, petulant, and cowardly.

That anyone considers it becoming of a man has been the most disillusioning thing for me over the past 2 years.

  16. - Boat captain - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:13 am:

A cheap shot at McCann. He doesn’t like you or doesn’t respect you, get over it. Part of the deal when you are a reporter. Maybe he had somewhere to be.

  17. - JS Mill - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:14 am:

    Very Trump like of Sammy.

Brave Sir Sammy is running a way…

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8IkbCeZ9to

  18. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:21 am:

Sam needs some attention. Being thin-skinned about it isn’t all that great, but because of Trump, it looks less bad since his target audience includes those with issues with the media.

A twitter spat isn’t at all gubernatorial, maybe presidential, and definitely not great for a candidate not named Trump.

    Ugh.

  19. - Pick a Name - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:22 am:

Sammy is just biding his time, waiting for that high paying state position.

And folks, don’t throw McCann in with Trump, that us comparing a nail to a high rise office building.

  20. - Nick Name - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:22 am:

Two words you can say to cause me to never take you seriously at all: “fake news.”

  21. - A guy - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:24 am:

    Thin skinned…Thick headed.

  22. - Ron Burgundy - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:25 am:

Just uttering the term “fake news” is DQing for me. Yes, he can decline to be interviewed, and yes the press is free to tell everyone he declined to answer their questions.

  23. - Snyder - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:26 am:

McCann’s Twitter timeline looks like something off of InfoWars. Who are these people?

  24. - Revolver - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:27 am:

He’s just running as fast as he can all the way to his blood money Pritzker admin job

  25. - Rusty Bridges - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:28 am:

McCann screwed up by not working the line at the Trump rally in Murphysboro Saturday. Had a captive audience of around 10,000 for hours. I was there and didn’t see him. Apparently McCann was confined to just one small section. Meanwhile, Mike Bost had multiple people with clipboards and sign-up sheets working the mile long line HARD, and he’s not even statewide like Sam.

Don’t know why McCann isn’t better highlighting the lack of support for the President by Rauner & obviously Pritzker. It does give the impression McCann’s not seriously in this thing.

  26. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:33 am:

===Maybe he had somewhere to be===

You mean, like grocery shopping? This is not a real campaign. C’mon.

  27. - Soccermom - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:40 am:

It’s not “goading” to be a journalist out asking questions of people who are running for public office. What do you want them to do, sit under their desks until someone calls a requests an interview request?

  28. - allknowingmasterofraccoodom - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:41 am:

I have to say it again - people should keep their distance from McCann….as the political Karma comes crashing down on him in the next 60-90 days.

This election is a total circus, and McCann is just part of the show.

  29. - Real - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:42 am:

Ofcourse, it’s not a real campaign. Instead it’s a real campaign to hurt Rauner. It’s revenge for Rauner targeting McCann for standing up against the billionaire and standing up for working families. I applaud McCann for having a backbone when many in his party didn’t. Ensuring Rauner loses is the ballgame and deservingly so.

  30. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:43 am:

    ===Karma===

“Karma… Karma… I don’t think it means what you think it means.”

Rauner is facing the McCann karma.

  31. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 10:55 am:

–.. blood money Pritzker admin job–

Your hyperbolic whining is out of line. Real people died at Quincy, remember?

  32. - Real - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 11:02 am:

McCann is one of the few republicans that did his job in Springfield. By working for the people and not working for the party line or the governor. McCann is the type of politicians we need in Springfield. And to be targeting by an elitist like Rauner for standing up for workers should be condemned. It would be nice for Maxwell to do more stories on that.

  33. - People Over Parties - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 11:05 am:

===It would be nice for Maxwell to do more stories on that.===

    Political hackery knows no bounds.

  34. - The Chairman - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 11:06 am:

    They’re both right.

  35. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 11:11 am:

Proft interviewed McCann last week, and McCann was a train wreck.

  36. - Liandro - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 11:19 am:

“You are the epitome of the farce”

…a great description of his campaign.

  37. - A Jack - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 11:20 am:

Maxwell and McCann had a similar exchange around May 3 as reported by Capital Fax. There seems to be some bad blood between the two.

  38. - The Most Anonymous - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 11:21 am:

A moron? That’s mean, false and not gubernatorial. However, springing an interview on him during an unplanned airport run-in and then calling him out for it is a little much.

  39. - Cheryl44 - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 11:24 am:

People that thin-skinned shouldn’t be running for office.

  40. - Oo Rah - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 11:26 am:

At least now we know why the Marines didn’t want McCann

  41. - DarkHorse - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 11:26 am:

Is McCann always this irascible? Or only because he knows he’ll only get like 5%?

  42. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 11:33 am:

No Mr. Proft was rude. As far as this discussion, the reporter attacked Sen. McCann. He is defending himself from the reporter.

  43. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 11:39 am:

=Don’t throw McCann in with Trump=

    Seriously?

  44. - RNUG - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 11:45 am:

Maybe McCann should have been politer / more diplomatic with the reporter but, having been to a number of Honor Flight events, Sam’s basic point was correct: the Honor Flight event was NOT the time for politics.

  45. - City Zen - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 11:57 am:

Sam certainly knows how to Fight Back.

  46. - Man with a Plan - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 11:58 am:

—Or only because he knows he’ll only get like 5%?—

That would hardly be a loss, DH…

  47. - Huh? - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 12:01 pm:

Reminds me of a saying, something about an argument, buying ink by the gallon.

  48. - theCardinal - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 12:02 pm:

See ya Sam is full of Sam. He was a B- minus legislator at best and has torpedoed his own career on several occasions. Walking away from legit media solidifies the end of his politcal career, hope for your sake the deal you cut pays off.

  49. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 12:02 pm:

–Is McCann always this irascible? Or only because he knows he’ll only get like 5%?–

    Five percent is the goal.

=Don’t throw McCann in with Trump=

True, McCann didn’t call Maxwell “enemy of the people.”

  50. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 12:20 pm:

    =They’re both right=

I’m sure that both of them are very nice people.

  51. - Pick a Name - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 12:27 pm:

Again, Sam just wants the high level state job, and likely has sleepless nights worrying about returning to the private sector.

  52. - Gooner - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 12:29 pm:

When did “moron” become such a commonly used insult?

It is like saying “I want to call you something mean, but I’ve never had an original thought, so this will have to do.”

  53. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 12:43 pm:

===I agree with McCanns right not to interview===

Whatever. People like you have got to stop defending this sort of behavior by those who want to lead us. McCann’s response was completely disgraceful.

  54. - Alex Ander - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 12:59 pm:

Called the guy a moron. This will solidify the Trump base to vote for him.

  55. - Gooner - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 1:05 pm:

To follow up on my comment above and a few of those defending McCann.

Declining the interview wasn’t a big deal. Smile and wave would have been fine.

The problem was the childish Twitter response. He wants to lead the state, but gets thrown off by a mean tweet directed to him.

  56. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 1:37 pm:

We don’t need campaigns anymore, just MMA cage matches.

  57. - Demoralized - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 1:37 pm:

    ==McCann’s response was completely disgraceful.==

And yet this has become the new norm thanks to the President of the United States. And his supporters think that sort of behavior is great.

Though I’m not sure that’s what’s driving McCann. I think he’s just lost it.

  58. - the Patriot - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 1:40 pm:

But can he govern? I, and many voters I know have sworn off party politics and vowed to elect the best person for each office.

So being fairly certain Rauner can’t Govern the fact I actually passed economics so I know what more tax and spend(JB) will do to us, can McCann at least keep it on the rails or are we choosing from the least of the possible disasters.

  59. - Commenter - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 1:46 pm:

Sam McCann definitely has the “right” to walk away from an interview. As someone who wants to hold the highest office in the state, it is irresponsible and childish for him to do so in this manner. He doesn’t “have” to talk to the press, but he should to maintain transparency and accountability. McCann’s inability to answer simple questions, that Maxwell said had been sent to him before, just shows he is not ready to be governor.

  60. - NoGifts - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 3:35 pm:

What politician is going to give up free publicity on camera before an election?

  61. - Whatever - Wednesday, Oct 31, 18 @ 4:06 pm:

Next time, Maxwell, get a nice old lady to latch onto McCann’s hood ornament as he drives away, and get it a video. Worked wonders for Rostenkowski’s career, and he was a better politician than any of the candidates for governor.

  62. - FMRSTEMPLYEE - Thursday, Nov 1, 18 @ 11:16 am:

Used to work at the State. Had McCann come up to me, grab my ID badge and say “I appreciate the working people” Sounds like someone full of himself and without the “working people” he shows what he really is….Nothing
