Anybody want to buy a giant slide?

Monday, Feb 4, 2019 - Posted by Rich Miller

* WICS

The giant slide on the Illinois State Fairgrounds is now up for sale.

According to Amy Raftis with Prairie State Bank & Trust, the bank now owns the slide. The bank is not interested in owning the slide and hopes to sell it as soon as possible.

Anyone interested can purchase the Pittroff Giant Slide for $135,000. […]

The slide is privately owned, but it does operate as a vendor of the Department of Agriculture during the fair. This means it is under lease with the Illinois Department of Agriculture which calls for a single lease payment plus a percentage of income to the fair.

Click here to buy it. Click here for some background on the former owner. He tried to sell it for $175K and now the bank has it.

This has Big Jim Thompson written all over it.

  2. - Thomas Paine - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 3:40 pm:

    indeed, 47th Ward.

It seems like Scott Kennedy’s plan for the JRTC is really coming together.

  3. - Skeptic - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 3:42 pm:

Can we use that as a metaphor for the Illinois Republicans?

  4. - Just Observing - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 3:43 pm:

That seems like a lot of money for that slide!

  5. - Norseman - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 3:45 pm:

I’m kinda up and down on the idea.

    ===seems like a lot of money===

If I could get it on the cheap, it appears to be the perfect length between my office window and my little lake cove.

    Whee!!! Sploosh!!!

    I’m measuring the back yard.

WOnder if we could make certain “improvements” that would allow the slide to appeal to a wider audience. In the meantime we will bid $50 and wait for Capt Fax to set up one of those fancy on line pages. We got an hour before the work force heads in to wash up and head for Loami

Fast track that capitol bill, should be easier for all of us to find Rich’s house with this purchase

  10. - Bruce ( no not him) - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 3:55 pm:

Do I have to leave it there? or can I take it home?

Think of all the bums that have gone down that slide. (double entendre intended) Such nostalgia…

    Hmm.

Makes me think back to when I was a young man and enjoyed the Moody Blues.

  14. - Anonymous - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 4:12 pm:

I like this one much better. https://www.usedrides.com/rides/209739 And it is cheaper!

  15. - Kayak - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 4:14 pm:

Neither the Dept of Ag nor the State Fair Foundation should let this slide out from under them.

  16. - Anonymous - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 4:18 pm:

    Rename it the “Edgar Ramp”

  17. - curtis - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 4:18 pm:

Thompson Center drop slide. The big deep pool at the bottom of the Atrium should work well for this especially if you place the slide on floor 7 or 8. Put some pillars up to support the middle and bottom of it. Plus the leaky JRTC roof means you don’t even need to run a water line!

    It’s perfect!

  18. - Anonymous - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 4:20 pm:

Begin selling Big Slides, and you’ll find yourself on a slippery slope indeed.

  19. - wordslinger - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 4:31 pm:

Just tell Griff he can set the record for most expensive giant slide purchase and he’ll snap it up in a hurry.

  20. - Anonymous - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 4:36 pm:

Throw it on letgo.com and see how much we can get for it. Bet it will sell in no time!!

  21. - illini - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 4:48 pm:

@BlueDog - I have no idea what the Moody Blues have to do with this topic, but I loaded 5 of their CDs just a bit ago. Amazing arrangements and acoustics.

  22. - Blue Dog Dem - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 4:50 pm:

Anonymous @4:18. Good one. But aren’t slides supposed to go downhill?

  23. - Blue Dog Dem - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 4:52 pm:

Blue Dog, I actually saw them in concert in the 70’s. The 1970’s that is…

  26. - Blue Dog Dem - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 5:15 pm:

Link. I am not sure your being sincere.

  27. - Tequila Mockingbird - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 5:16 pm:

They should promote it as a monument to Illinois’ fiscal crisis.

Say I was to buy it, do they offer free shipping?

  28. - Union thug - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 6:07 pm:

Tell the Lincoln Museum that it’s rumored that Abe went down it. They’ll buy it.

  31. - Chris M - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 6:54 pm:

Here’s an idea for Pritzker to buy some goodwill for the people….buy it donate it to the fairgrounds for people to use free of charge. Good way to increase traffic to the grounds.

  32. - Anonymous - Monday, Feb 4, 19 @ 8:42 pm:

Agree that the fair should buy out the slide and open it free to the public during the fair. For any operating expenses, attendants and insurance, they could seek a sponsorship. But this thing is as much a part of Main gate character as ivy is on the walls of Wrigley. While there are millions of bucks’ worth of repairs and upgrades needed across the fair, this is a low-hanging fruit that should not be left to rot or get torn down.

  33. - LINK - Tuesday, Feb 5, 19 @ 1:37 am:

Blue Dog, I was and am as I believe it was in St. Louis at the Checkerdome. One of the best concerts I’ve experienced and can remember…and I have been to many and even worked a bunch back in Texas from 1974-5.

Now back to the slide and making it a “free” part of the State Fair.

  34. - jkl - Tuesday, Feb 5, 19 @ 7:15 am:

blue dog I still listen to the moody blues
