Tribune editorial board appears to have been taken over by space aliens
Thursday, Apr 4, 2019 - Posted by Rich Miller * Tribune editorial entitled “How Lori Lightfoot can avoid others’ rookie mistakes”…
That’s really good advice, except for the fact that the Tribsters cheered Rauner on at just about every turn. Remember the editorial that proclaimed Jim Edgar wanted Rauner to “surrender” because the former governor merely suggested Rauner focused on whatever was “doable”? I could go on, but why bother? We all know the history, except, apparently, for the people who wrote it.

I long ago gave up trying to track that edit board’s Bizarro World zigs and zags and endless self-contradictions.
- Donnie Elgin - Thursday, Apr 4, 19 @ 11:13 am:
It appears the Trib Editorial Board has evolved
- Last Bull Moose - Thursday, Apr 4, 19 @ 11:15 am:
I saw the article earlier and skipped reading it. The Tribune editorial board has no credibility left.
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Apr 4, 19 @ 11:16 am:
I thought the Trib Edit Board to be thoughtless.
This editorial proves my thought.

I have believed for many years that all Tribune and Wall Street Journal Editorial were written while the author was stoned on liquor.

Maybe the new guys will actually try to inform themselves on the subjects they blabber about. Maybe even go so far as to read the Trib’s news pages.
The old tronclodytes were blessed with willful ignorance, lack of self-awareness and convenient amnesia. When you have those, you can just start with your desired conclusion and backfill a lot of nonsense to “support” it.

Space aliens or “The Onion”?

These are the folks who endorsed Gary Johnson for President in 2016. They are not serious.

Cooperation with others to get things done.
What a novel concept for Illinois.
- Shelby Weems - Thursday, Apr 4, 19 @ 12:11 pm:
The Trib lacks any self awareness
- Chunga - Thursday, Apr 4, 19 @ 12:15 pm:
The Tribune editorial board has long been the Grandpa Abe Simpson of the journalism world
- Bourbon Street - Thursday, Apr 4, 19 @ 12:53 pm:
=at least publicly and initially=
So the Trib is advocating that Lightfoot not cooperate with the alderman privately and after a certain amount of time has passed? That’ll help get things done. /s
- Henry Francis - Thursday, Apr 4, 19 @ 1:00 pm:
Nice attempt to have some relevance there Trib.
They really moved the needle for Bill Daley (whom they endorsed in the primary).

Republican governors worked with their legislatures in Maryland and Massachusetts and got overwhelmingly re-elected in 2018.
Who would have thought that people expect their Governor to govern.
- Lucky Pierre - Thursday, Apr 4, 19 @ 2:17 pm:
I can go on but who can forget about the “cooperative and professional” legislature’s balanced budgets that contained a balance of reasonable cuts and revenues during the Rauner years.
- Keyser Soze - Thursday, Apr 4, 19 @ 2:55 pm:
An inside tip is that the editorial writers don’t always communicate with the paper’s foot soldiers on the ground (i.e., reporters). Hence, facts may not be well represented in the editorials. Unsupported assumptions often slip in through the back door.

- DeseDemDose - Thursday, Apr 4, 19 @ 3:20 pm:
Trib is so biased, they contribute nothing at all anymore.

And here I thought maybe you might move on to other things. I guess I was wrong. You are incapable of having any sort of coherent discussion outside of your robot talking points.
- Lucky Pierre - Thursday, Apr 4, 19 @ 4:01 pm:
What other things Demoralized?
As we can see from JB’s first budget (that is not balanced) pensions are not reformed, the payments are reduced by almost 1 billion dollars each year, nothing is doable in Illinois except raising taxes again.
Now that the Democrats have supermajorities, they have forgotten their “reasonable and moderate” balanced approach, it is all tax hikes and more spending and borrowing.
Sorry for being so incoherent.
- Shytown - Thursday, Apr 4, 19 @ 4:09 pm:
That edit board likes to re-write history when it suits them, obviously.
- Grandson of Man - Thursday, Apr 4, 19 @ 4:39 pm:
Rauner never wanted to govern. He wanted to smash his opponents. He ran anti-Madigan commercials during budget negotiations in 2017, two years into a budget crisis. He got smashed in the end.

I inevitably sigh every time I read a tribune editorial headline.
It’s just a neverending stream of honestly bad takes trying to be spicy and fresh and I just can’t
