IDNR Director Callahan abruptly resigns state central committeewoman post

Tuesday, Jun 18, 2019 - Posted by Rich Miller

* As I told you yesterday, the governor’s office was not made aware of IDNR Director Colleen Callahan’s decision to join the Democratic State Central Committee. This resignation was therefore not unexpected…

June 17, 2019

Dear Speaker Madigan-

Effectively immediately I resign from membership of the Illinois Democratic State Central Committee, representing the 18th Congressional District as the Committeewoman.

Colleen Callahan

    Quick action, good sign for Gov’s office.

    …and hopefully for IDNR and it’s stewardship of Illinois natural resources.

    The Speaker needs to realize JB isn’t like the Governor’s he’s used to

  4. - Leave a light on George - Tuesday, Jun 18, 19 @ 4:28 pm:

    Not a good sign for Director Callahan’s initial decision making ability.

  5. - Unle Ernie - Tuesday, Jun 18, 19 @ 4:33 pm:

    Good for you Director

  6. - anon - Tuesday, Jun 18, 19 @ 4:36 pm:

    Shouldn’t that be addressed to Chairman Madigan?

  7. - Interested - Tuesday, Jun 18, 19 @ 4:49 pm:

    Poor judgement. And that is who is at the top. Not a good look.

  8. - Glengarry - Tuesday, Jun 18, 19 @ 4:53 pm:

    Not unexpected.

  9. - Skirmisher - Tuesday, Jun 18, 19 @ 5:13 pm:

    Agreed. Very poor judgement on her part in the first place, and a very good response by the Governor in the second place. Agency directors might still be political hacks instead of qualified professionals, but at least Pritzker is demanding at least an appearance of professionalism
    and that in itself is refreshing.

    Good move. Keeps things clean.

  11. - {Sigh} - Tuesday, Jun 18, 19 @ 6:52 pm:

    Someone in Governor’s office or the campaign had to be aware of this. Callahan wouldn’t have accepted without asking someone. {sigh}

  12. - Lincoln Lad - Tuesday, Jun 18, 19 @ 7:15 pm:

    I’m inclined to agree with {sigh}. But who knows.

  13. - Candy Dogood - Tuesday, Jun 18, 19 @ 10:23 pm:

    The Pritzker administration did not disappoint.

    ===Callahan wouldn’t have accepted without asking someone. {sigh} ===

    Gotta ask the right someone.

    Who would that someone be?

    Madigan thought it was him. Has been for decades so …

    {Sigh} For some reason, I don’t think it was Madigan that caused the resignation letter. People in the know knew she was being talked to. Someone in the Governor’s circle obviously had an issue.

    What happened to promoting qualified women on the political side? And what ever happened to people being able to do what they want on their own time?

  17. - Lurker - Wednesday, Jun 19, 19 @ 3:25 pm:

    Sigh, I think we have confusion. Let me simplify,

    Madigan did it.
    Pritzker did not know and was not asked.
    Pritzker stops it and everyone is confused because Madigan runs the State.
    The pawn in this, Callahan, resigns.

    And if you think this was a legitimate promotion that she should have accepted, I will question your ethics.

    ===Madigan did it.===

    Much more likely that Durbin’s guy Houlihan is behind this.
