Ives could kick off congressional bid soon as Sanguinetti announces lots of establishment endorsements

Monday, Jul 15, 2019 - Posted by Rich Miller

* We’ve known since at least May that former Rep. Jeanne Ives was eyeing a bid against Sean Casten. An announcement could be forthcoming, says Greg Hines

I’m still hearing chatter that former gubernatorial hopeful Jeanne Ives is planning to enter the race, perhaps as soon as this weekend. An Ives candidacy would amount to a surrogate rerun of her contest against former Gov. Bruce Rauner, who has endorsed Sanguinetti. Ives hasn’t been returning phone calls. […]

Look for immigration policy and Donald Trump to be huge issues next year if [former Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti] indeed is the nominee. She and Casten already have clashed over his decision to support the opening of a Trump impeachment inquiry.

Asked about the president’s tweets over the weekend, in which he said of four Democratic congresswomen, “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came,” the spokesman for Sanguinetti, who is the daughter of an Ecuadorian immigrant and a Cuban refugee, said she has no comment.

I asked around and heard the same thing Greg did.

* Sanguinetti sent out this press release earlier today, perhaps in a bid to get ahead of Ives…

The Evelyn Sanguinetti for Congress campaign today announced more than 40 new endorsements from elected officials, activists and Republican leaders for Evelyn’s election to Congress for Illinois’ 6th district.

“I am so thankful and humbled by the amount of support I have received in the short amount of time since announcing my campaign for United States Congress,” said Evelyn Sanguinetti, candidate for Illinois’ 6th Congressional District. “Through my conversations with 6th District constituents and the overwhelming support I have received, it is clear the 6th is ready for change and I promise to work my hardest to ensure this district is properly represented in Washington.”

Bruce is probably to busy picking his villa in Italy to care about endorsing. He strikes me as a “once I’m no longer involved, I don’t care” type of guy.

  3. - TheInvisibleMan - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 2:15 pm:

    ===Steve Balich===

Does anyone think that’s a name anyone would willingly want on a list of endorsements?

Maybe the rest of the state isn’t familiar with this guy yet.

Balich will jump ship to Ives the second she announces a run, and Ives will be the most sane person of that duo.

  4. - Flat Bed Ford - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 2:17 pm:

Ives is the final nail in the DuPage GOP coffin. She is toxic and will force moderate soccer moms to vote Democrat. Other GOPers on the ticket best beware.

Slip and Sue is a confusing lot.

She *thinks* she’s a Republican, but in actuality, she was an “interview and handshake” away from working in the Quinn Administration

“Hey girl” I think the email went.

Slip and Sue is a Raunerite, trying to navigate in a Trunoian world with immigrant parents.

Slip and Sue won’t serve Illinois at all well. Can’t she get an interview at IPI or something? Rauner couldn’t get her a gig?

It has the impression of, again, herself looking for a job, not serving the people.

That list? How many may believe Slip and Sue is qualified, and how many just don’t want Jeanne Ives?

I looked at Sanguinetti’s list but didn’t see Jay Janssen, Peoria’s leading personal injury attorney.

==She *thinks* she’s a Republican, but in actuality, she was an “interview and handshake” away from working in the Quinn Administration==

Thank you Mr. Willy for being the arbiter of who is and who isn’t a real Republican.

Second, was she asking for a political position or a career service position? Not every state employee is member of the “administration.”

  8. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 2:28 pm:

===Thank you Mr. Willy for being the arbiter of who is and who isn’t a real Republican.===

Slip and Sue is an opportunist.

Nothing really wrong with that, ‘cept when it’s pointed out, LOL

===Second, was she asking for a political position or a career service position? Not every state employee is member of the “administration.”===

You should ask her. It appeared she never clarified that herself.

    Anything else?

Ask her where all the money went from her Slip and Sue.

Apparently she couldn’t clarify, after paying her attorney, how much was left for… whatever.

Lemme know how all that goes.

    OW

You are just the man to help the Republican party better themselves. You have their best interest at heart.

  10. - Turner - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 2:35 pm:

==You should ask her. It appeared she never clarified that herself==

Perhaps I have, have you? Naw, you are just making thinks up. Quinn administration appointee, give me a break.

==Ask her where all the money we’ve from her Slip and Sur==

Seems you have had a little slip and slur today Willy. Where is all of this money? Hmm… Let’s see. Isn’t it subject to FOIA? It’s just easier for you to repeat the same talking points for the last 5 years.

  11. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 2:36 pm:

    ===You are just the man===

I’m not. The talent is there.

The want, desire, and direction needs to be there for the talent.

    I’m not that person.

The truest thing you have said in a long time.

The biggest winner if Jeanne gets in is Sean Casten. Jeanne is almost assuring a Casten win next November. SIt back and let them beat the hell out of each other.

This is what Jeanne did in the Gubernatorial, she’s the Democrats’ best friend.

===Perhaps I have, have you? Naw, you are just making thinks up. Quinn administration appointee, give me a break.===

    LOL… well, tell us.

For weeks and weeks we never got an answer on this blog or on the campaign trail. I don’t need to spare you, enlighten us. Oh, cit where I can find it; Newspaper, press release, Q and A … look on this blog if you like…

===Let’s see. Isn’t it subject to FOIA? It’s just easier for you to repeat the same talking points for the last 5 years.===

Slip and Sue refused to divulge how much of the settlement went to her lawyers, then to herself, where she donated, and yet won’t tell how big was the donation, or to whom.

You’re not good at this, are ya?

  15. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 2:42 pm:

===The truest thing you have said in a long time.===

The party is at 19, 44 in the GA, no statewide offices and lost two congressional seats… and you’re worried about me… not thinking I can lead this utter failure?

Yikes, this says a great deal about you, more than you realize, LOL

  16. - Turner - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 2:43 pm:

==You’re not good at this, are ya?==
It was 10K Mr. Willy. She took no money herself and donated her proceeds to Operation Support our Troops. Ask you buddy Jeanne Ives. She used your same talking points in her City Council campaign against Evelyn, that you received via Jon Zahm’s “No Rauner” website in 2013.

  17. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 2:44 pm:

    https://capitolfax.com/2013/10/22/candidate-wanted-big-payday-after-fall/

It’s who she is… it is a bit strange… no receipts, no accounting, just… “yeah the proceeds went here”… gotta take her word.

For someone so concerned about fiscal accountability, going for a big personal injury payday… LOL

  21. - JS Mill - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 2:50 pm:

=This is what Jeanne did in the Gubernatorial, she’s the Democrats’ best friend.=

Amen. After the last election she make Atilla the Hun seem moderate.

  22. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 2:52 pm:

Illinois can do much better than sending Bruce Rauner’s partner in the destruction of the state, social services, and universities to Washington DC

Slip and Sue should see if Pritzker has any Quinn holdovers to get her in this current administration.

==It’s who she is… it is a bit strange… no receipts, no accounting, just… “yeah the proceeds went here”… gotta take her word.==

If I can provide you with this, will you finally shut up on this subject. I’m filling out he FOIA right now. Geez Louise. It’s been 5 years of this prattle.

  24. - Former Quigley Supporter - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 2:54 pm:

Look at Sanguinetti’s just released 2nd quarter FEC filing top line numbers, and see why Ives might jump in. All those endorsements Sanguinetti’s boasting isn’t helping her where it counts. “No Comment” on Trump tweets from Sunday morning? Please see my comments in link below:

    NEW FEC F3
    SANGUINETTI, EVELYN (REP) #IL06

Get the check to the law firm and the donated check too.

If Slip and Sue took no money, for herself, it should be easy enough to account for…

  26. - lola - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 2:55 pm:

    ==No Bruce on the list?==

You can bet his support for Republicans and his investment and role in governing related to Sterigenics will be a huge issue in both the primary and general election.

  27. - OutOfState - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 3:03 pm:

2018 Gubernatorial Primary Results (6th District):
    Rauner - 28,258
    Ives - 30,603

2018 Gubernatorial General Results (6th District):
    Rauner - 158,886
    Pritzker - 142,091

Say what you will about the GOP/Rauner reputation statewide, but in the 6th District, they did fine in 2018.

Where do I send it Willy? Email, exchange at a park bench at Grant Park… You pick.

  29. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 3:08 pm:

    - Turner -

    Send it to Rich.

Should make for one interesting Post.

It took 5 years for Slip and Sue to purposely clear her name.

Now, running for Congress, it’s readily available?

Why wait 5 years? I’m guessing you have a personal interest in this, unlike Rauner and his crew who apparently can spend millions, but you can get this stuff they *couldn’t*

    I’m fascinated *now* the concern.

  30. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 3:11 pm:

    - Turner -

In reality, please get all this.

I mean what kind of person allows the “person who hired” them to take these lumps?

    I mean, 5 years… LOL

This is epic. Embarrassingly so. To let something linger this long and “woosh” now let’s clear it up.

    It’s fascinating, lol

  31. - lakeside - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 3:14 pm:

    ==Jeanne did in the Gubernatorial==

I’d never do it, but strikes me that all you’d need to do is run Ives’ horrible racist, anti-trans ad over and over. Guessing that played like a lead ballon out there among the soccer moms. And gives one an accurate understanding of her belief system.

  32. - DuPage Saint - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 3:29 pm:

Boy the establishment of DuPage Republicans must really dislikes me Ives. But I am sure Ives realizes these are the geniuses that carried Roskam And Hultgren to victory. Different era

  33. - Jibba - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 3:51 pm:

    Flat Bed Ford…==to vote Democrat===

The correct thing to say is “Democratic”. Democrat is a noun. Most people who confuse the two intentionally are trying to be insulting on the sly, such as Fox News and our President, but they fool no one. If you’re not trying to dog whistle, perhaps you could take a little more care with this, please.

  34. - Grandson of Man - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 4:10 pm:

Ives is the real deal in today’s GOP, greatly in step with the president. Plus, and a big plus, she didn’t lie about abortion like the former governor, to whom Sanguinetti is tied very closely (like in Rauner’s ad when they were pressed up together).

  35. - Rich Miller - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 4:11 pm:

===greatly in step with the president===

She’s never embraced him. I think she might’ve won the primary against Rauner if she had made it more about Trump, but she didn’t.

  36. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 4:14 pm:

===I think she might’ve won the primary against Rauner if she had made it more about Trump, but she didn’t.===

    Agreed.

I “think” they got ahead of themselves and worried that if they embraced Trump it could hurt in the General, if they won.

You fight the fight in front of you first, they forgot that.

  37. - HorseShoe - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 4:24 pm:

    @Oswego Willy

If they were thinking ahead of the general, why would they drop that ad insulting the transgender community and Teachers? But I see your point, besides your theory I can’t think any other reason why she wouldn’t reach out.

  38. - Chicago Cynic - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 4:30 pm:

That release looks like a “let’s please keep Jeanne Ives out of this race” by uniting behind anyone but Jeanne. An Ives candidacy would be a HUGE gift to Casten’s fundraising. But it wouldn’t surprise me if Jeanne decides to take a pass on this race and run against Durbin. She’s going nowhere either way.

  39. - Last Bull Moose - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 5:00 pm:

My faint hope is that a fiscally conservative and socially liberal Republican enters a 3 way primary with these two.

  40. - CubsFan16 - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 6:02 pm:

Sanguinetti v Ives will get ugly, obviously. I think it will come down to a field margin. Advantage to whoever is willing to pound some pavement in cold Illinois winter weather…

  41. - Ste_with a v_en - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 6:04 pm:

“and a big plus, she didn’t lie about abortion like the former governor”
She never lied about her opposition, just what the law was, what it would cost, why it was unconstitutional, etc..

  42. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 6:16 pm:

Sanguinetti isn’t anything more, politically, than the one Rauner chose to “hire”

Think about that. She went from voting on curbs in Wheaton to being a heartbeat away from running the 5th largest state… that became the 6th largest state as she aided Rauner.

Sanguinetti’s claim to fame… is Bruce Rauner.

    Vote accordingly.

Sanguinetti helped in hurting Illinois for an anti-labor, anti-higher education, and had so much influence… had nothing but her hat in hand as Rauner signed his uber-left, costal, limousine liberal agenda… that nearly cost him against… Jeanne Ives.

Sanguinetti is everything Rauner’s term was.

  43. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 6:20 pm:

===Say what you will about the GOP/Rauner reputation statewide, but in the 6th District, they did fine in 2018.===

Why then not ask for Rauner’s endorsement, maybe have Rauner throw a funder for her?

It is odd, omitting her only running mate, the one who hired her.

    Why?

  44. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 7:24 pm:

===why would they drop that ad insulting the transgender community and Teachers?===

Run right in the primary, sprint as best you can to a centering that works.

===But I see your point, besides your theory I can’t think any other reason why she wouldn’t reach out.===

Campaigns are always harder than folks think.

    I guess I go back to this…

“You fight the fight in front of you first, they forgot that.”

The rest is pure outside speculation, with that campaign rule as my basis.

  45. - Token Conservative - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 8:12 pm:

I’m glad Willy is the arbiter of what is and isn’t Republican.

  46. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 8:16 pm:

===…is the arbiter of what is and isn’t Republican===

Raunerites and those who practice(d) Raunerism are not Republicans.

Please keep up. See the damage Raunerism caused, and the goals of Raunerism, and the methods… of Raunerism.

You’re a Raunerite? Then you’re not a Republican in any measure, other than, like Bruce and Diana, in the brand you think that absolves ya.

  47. - Anon221 - Monday, Jul 15, 19 @ 9:04 pm:

So, the ex Lt Gov has, “No comment.” Who, exactly, is she waiting to speak FOR her??? Ignoring T’s tirade is not going to make the hate magically go away. Maybe she’ll just wait until AFTER she’s elected to elect to take a stand. That’s what courageous people do… don’t they???
