* Lobbyist for previously monopolistic legacy casinos really, really, really doesn’t like video gaming, new casino expansion…
Illinois has not been necessarily a gambling industry-friendly state. You never know what the hell is going to happen. You know, we’ve been [fighting expansion for] 15, 20 years, and it finally got done. But you never knew when it was going to happen, or what it was going to look like from year to year.

Iowa has 24 casinos that brought in $1.4 billion last year. Illinois has 10 that brought in $1.3 billion. There is clearly more revenue out there to be had (especially if Chicago gets a casino).

Does Iowa have video gaming? There is only so much total gambling. Once market is saturated it just moves around. But it is interesting that at one point he says video gaming is responsible for casinos dropping. Later on he says more casinos will cause video gaming to drop.

Chicago should get multiple casinos and work to attract gambling tourism like Atlantic city and Las Vegas. Chicago has so much to offer and is a major transportation hub. Illinois gambling should be a $10 billion industry.

Yep, and way too many Illinoisans gamble in Indiana. That’s the whole point of the Chicago and south suburban casinos.

Atlantic City is, with respect, a hellhole but survives due to good location. Chicago with even better location should generate a ton of new gaming revenue, ideally at the expense of Indiana.

…and for this reason we do not need to reduce the taxes on casino revenue.

While Chicago drags its feet on developing a casino, Indiana moves ahead with a land-based complex near 80/94. The Hard Rock venture plans a casino, performance space, hotel and related businesses near the site. In addition, a group—MaiaCo—is purchasing land at tax sales for future development near the Gary site. One of the individuals in this group is the former mayor of Chicago Richard M. Daley. Go figure.
