You don’t see this every day
Wednesday, Oct 30, 2019 - Posted by Rich Miller * House Bill 2267, which mandates an elected school board in Chicago, passed the House 110-2 during the spring session. The bill’s chief sponsor was Rep. Rob Martwick (D-Chicago). Sen. Omar Aquino (D-Chicago) picked up sponsorship when the bill arrived in his chamber in early April. Mayor Lori Lightfoot then persuaded Senate President John Cullerton to shelve the bill and it never made it out of the Assignments Committee. Rep. Martwick was appointed to the Senate after Sen. John Mulroe left to become a judge. Today, Sen. Aquino gave up his sponsorship to Sen. Martwick. So, we now have a bill that was sponsored in the House by Rep. Martwick and is currently sponsored in the Senate by Sen. Martwick. Martwick and Lightfoot got into a bit of a dustup during the campaign, but he has since tried to mend fences. Lindsey LaPointe, a Lightfoot ally, was appointed to fill out the remainder of Martwick’s House term.

I don’t like the Martwick version of the bill. I prefer the Martwick version.

This appears to be a method for the Teachers Union to control the School Board. This will not work out well for the taxpayers.

Will he want two pens when it gets signed?

I live in Lapointes district and do not recall reading anywhere that she is an ally if Lightfoot she is as n activist in the 45th ward and a close ally of deposed alderman John Arena.

Just because you live in the district doesn’t mean you know anything special…

I missed that one. Now the whole picture just got a lot clearer. Looks like peace has been made between the mayor and martwick. Twitter is the place to be not the neighborhood paper

Regular Democrat–
You mean she’s an ally of the guy that the Mayor just set up with a job in her Housing Department after he lost his election?

“Regular Democrat–

Yes. She’s an Arena ally. Arena pushed for her appointment but it was contingent on him getting the job with the City.

In rugby, that would be something like an up-and-under.

Yes that exactly what I mean. Arena takes care of martwick he returns the favor with the appointment of LaPointe who appears to be a close ally of the new mayor. The arena gets a job with the city at 125k year. This is what reform looks like in the progressive world.

Sounds like a Monty Python sketch where a man wrestles himself (Colin Bomber Harris sketch), or a Bears trick play “Matwick snaps to Matwick, he fads right, throwing to Matwick…”

Are you really a regular Democrat or are you just posing as one? Me thinks the latter…

Lindsay has better credentials than Martwick - zoning lawyer - and Arena -neighborhood gadfly. Just bec they supported her doesn’t take away from her background or skill set.

Arena’s very personal intimate relationship with Lightfoot’s PR person was a key factor in this deal. Klonsky and LaPointe stood by Lightfoot from day one. She is repaying the favor.
