Dick Lockhart

Thursday, Nov 21, 2019 - Posted by Rich Miller

* I told you in October that retired lobbyist Dick Lockhart was very ill. He was flooded with calls, texts, emails and visits from his old friends after that. His son sent me a text a little over a week later saying he was still going strong and at home.

I received a call from a friend of his a couple of hours ago and then received this email with the same basic message…

Rich! I am sending this on behalf of Dick’s family.

It is with heavy hearts that Dick Lockhart’s family is notifying friends of his peaceful passing this a.m. at his home.

Details of a celebration of his life are pending.

I’ll let you know more when I know more.

  7. - Norseman - Thursday, Nov 21, 19 @ 2:44 pm:

RIP Dick. You were part of the Greatest Generation and that is in so many senses. Your service to the country in war was one. Your service to your state by ethically representing folks before the IL General Assembly was another. Finally, your ability to teach those of us on the importance of good government was another. Dick, I enjoyed our conversations and admired your service. I’m sure your family understands your larger than life persona. I, we, will miss you.

Dick was the consummate gentleman and a wealth of historical and institutional knowledge, which he would gladly share with anyone who asked. As well documented re:his WWII experiences, he was the embodiment of a hero who “doesn’t wear a cape.” May he rest well, and his example live on.

  9. - Retired SURS Employee - Thursday, Nov 21, 19 @ 3:27 pm:

I am so sad to hear of Dick’s passing. To this day, I remember our conversation concerning his service during World War II. Rest in peace, Mr. Lockhart, knowing that your service to our country can never be completely repaid.

  10. - Just Peachy - Thursday, Nov 21, 19 @ 3:37 pm:

    Rest in Peace, Mr. Lockhart

  11. - Kirk Dillard - Thursday, Nov 21, 19 @ 3:43 pm:

Dick is a true hero on so many levels. In light of what is going on today, Mr. Lockhart is especially a “model”—- lobbyists and all of us should follow in our personal and professional lives. My wife and I will miss his friendship dearly! He was a GREAT American who served his country and clients–and Illinois–so well. My deepest condolences to his friends and family. Rich, thanks for keeping us posted on Dick as you did with the late Steve Schnorf.

  12. - Southsider - Thursday, Nov 21, 19 @ 4:06 pm:

  13. - Andy Raucci - Thursday, Nov 21, 19 @ 5:06 pm:

  14. - Professor - Thursday, Nov 21, 19 @ 5:09 pm:

I first met Dick in 1974 and used to join him on the side of the steps of the third floor of the capital (he called it his office). I will always remember the conversations and the dinners through the years. He certainly was one of a kind and what a contrast to what is going on today, in Washington and Springfield. He was the best!

  15. - Flyer - Thursday, Nov 21, 19 @ 5:11 pm:

His life is an amazing story. As a lobbyist he educated so many members and as a veteran, a legitimate hero

  16. - low level - Thursday, Nov 21, 19 @ 5:22 pm:

He lived right across the street and had me over one time after I contacted him out of the blue. His world war II stories and paraphernalia from said conflict were truly awe inspiring. My sincerest condolences to his family.
