“Well I’d certainly like to see you naked”
Thursday, Dec 12, 2019 - Posted by Rich Miller
* Hannah Meisel of The Daily Line…
* I asked Hannah for more details, and she provided this loose transcript that she wrote down almost immediately after hanging up with the guy…
*Phone rings, it’s a 312 number, I pick it up.*
Man: Hi, is this Hannah? I might have a scoop you’d be interested in.
Me: “May I ask who this is?”
Man: “I’d like to remain anonymous for now.”
(Guy says he’d like to meet this evening, I say I can’t but maybe tomorrow. He says he’s staying at the Hyatt on Wacker, and maybe we can meet there. I assume he means in the lobby.)
Man: “Should I give you my room number?”
Me: “For my personal safety, no I wouldn’t do that. We can meet in the lobby.”
Man: “Well, I’d certainly like to see you naked at some point tomorrow, but let’s start at the bar.”
Me: “No, sorry this conversation’s over.”
Man: “Hannah, I really think you’re going to be interested in what I have to tell you.”
Me: “What? No, I’m sure no scoop you claim to have is worth getting propositioned for.”
Man: “Hannah”
*Honestly, I think it went on a little longer than that because he kept insisting and I was shocked. I hang up.*
After some digging from Hannah and others, it seems that the guy’s phone number was some sort of spoof or burner number. She also says the mention of “Hyatt” was probably a clue this guy was trolling her - since Gov. Pritzker’s family owns the Hyatt Hotel chain.
Ugh. If I ever find out who did this, well, let’s just say that “man” is not safe.
* Hannah gets the last word…

This is despicable.

Ick.

I always wonder how much “people” like this actually think they have a chance and how much they just want to scare or upset women. If they think they have a chance then they’re delusional, and if they just want to scare random women they clearly are so scared and insecure they need to scare others to convince themselves they’re “powerful”. I just don’t understand going that far out of your way to hurt people.
- SpfdNewb - Thursday, Dec 12, 19 @ 12:57 pm:
Really? In the #metoo era? It’s unbelievable how dumb people are.
- Maryjane - Thursday, Dec 12, 19 @ 1:02 pm:
Absolutely deplorable.
- Big Joe - Thursday, Dec 12, 19 @ 1:03 pm:
This is disgusting. Hard to believe the kinds of things men think are funny, or will be successful in securing a meeting with a woman. What a LOSER!! Sorry to hear that this has happened to anybody.
- stateandlake - Thursday, Dec 12, 19 @ 1:07 pm:
So sorry Hannah had to experience this disgusting behavior.
- Southside Markie - Thursday, Dec 12, 19 @ 1:34 pm:
It’s reprehensible that cowardly scumbags like this can hide behind technology to anonymously harass and scare good people with impunity. It makes me want to scream, “What has this world turned into.”
- Just a Citizen - Thursday, Dec 12, 19 @ 1:49 pm:
Disgusting, deplorable and unbelievable that in 2019 that this kind of thing still happens. What is wrong with people like this?
- Stuntman Bob's Brother - Thursday, Dec 12, 19 @ 1:50 pm:
I believe the only correct response to this kind of behavior is with what the Japanese call “mokusatsu”, or to “kill with silent contempt”. The more outrage that is shown by the victim, the more the perpetrator “wins”, at least in his own mind, since his purpose is likely to provoke outrage to begin with. Don’t give him the satisfaction.

Whatever. Go find another blog to post your drivel on.

No. Women spent the majority of history being silent about abuse like this. We are done with that. Thank you, Rich, for helping to expose this and spread it.

12 months ago my daughter left her job as a TV reporter because of situations such as this. It sickens me to the core.

Adding: Thank you to Hannah for being brave and speaking up about this.

I understand that this was probably well-intentioned. But if the guy is that sick that he he does this kind of stuff and gets happy on the outrage, keeping quiet would only make him find another way to get happy. Better to therefore shame him to the extent we can and let it be known that this is neither acceptable nor tolerated.
- Da Big Bad Wolf - Thursday, Dec 12, 19 @ 2:12 pm:
The silver lining is the creep showed his intentions BEFORE Ms. Meisel met him at the lobby.

The maltreatment of women journalists is having something of a moment, https://www.ajc.com/news/local/the-ballad-kathy-scruggs/Ua5vSJBTHzkQfC1Lvs6snK/
It needs to stop immediately.

Smart lady.
- Tommydanger - Thursday, Dec 12, 19 @ 2:55 pm:
Perhaps at some level its just a reflection that this guy is unhappy with himself and has no self respect. You might hope that he (and other scudges) would consider how they would feel if such a remark was made to their, daughter/wife/mother, etc. But then again, there are so many shake your head examples out there of similar conduct.
Stay strong Hannah and thank you for reminding us how much work is yet to be done.
- Shytown - Thursday, Dec 12, 19 @ 3:12 pm:
Disgusting and sadly not surprised.
- Veil of Ignorance - Thursday, Dec 12, 19 @ 3:17 pm:
Just so gross…I hope when people (especially men) hear or see others engage in, laugh at, or in any way approve of this sort of behavior we say something. It doesn’t have to be a punch to the face, but it needs to be said that this is NEVER okay.

Resorting to cheap and lewd propositions towards a professional. This type of scum is made of cheap and lewd chromosomes. Class and respect is not in their genetic makeup.

I think the headline caught my attention. Whoever pulled this prank was out of line. Someone should pull a “fast one” on this character. Find out who he is and make sure we can end these pranks for good.
- Ugh! - Friday, Dec 13, 19 @ 1:27 pm:
I, along w another woman, intervened in a situation in Target yesterday. A grown man was verbally attacking a stranger, a mother and her young son, because her son was having a loud meltdown. The mother was just trying to get away from him and collect her child. The “man” called me a c*** and told me to F off. He was escorted out by security. You really really have to wonder what is happening
to us all. It’s depressing, and hard to hear. Hannah, we’re sorry. Ugh.
