* Jim Oberweis’ congressional campaign just made a $31,317 cable TV buy for this ad

* Script

Washington politicians Nancy Pelosi and Lauren Underwood are trying to overturn the 2016 election. We, the people, elect the president, not Pelosi and Underwood. Impeaching President Trump was a complete waste of time and taxpayer dollars.

Congresswoman Underwood, you should be working to protect jobs, cover pre-existing conditions, lower drug prices, fix our roads and bridges, not trying to overturn an election.

I’m Jim Oberweis and I’ll put people over politics. That’s why I approved this message.

Keep in mind when you rate the spot that Oberweis is currently battling in a crowded Republican primary. Republican voters are his targeted audience.

The House passed legislation designed to do all of that and more. Sigh.

I remember working on political campaigns when we had to document and footnote each and every allegation of attack on our opponents, or the news media would rip us to shreds. Today you can say whatever you want in your ads.

This is a big part of what’s wrong in our country.

Too bad his wife can’t vote for him.

    I kid, I kid…

    To the rating;

    It’s a B-.

Standing in a kitchen, just standing there, is pretty phony, and the “no tie” Rauner styling is tired, even in the GOP. Trump wears suits, ties, “a business man”

It’s a generous B- due in large part that voters know him, and except for the state Senate seat, routinely rejected him. He shoulda wore his now-famous “Make Illinois Great Again” hat, and embrace Trump.

    Oh yeah.

If Oberweis does win, he’ll have to straddle his Red Hat funny with “please don’t think I’m the crazy guy in a helicopter picking up that SEAL to campaign with.

Oberweis can’t run away from himself, this is about as close as he can get, but there’s room for improvement.

    B-

==Republican voters are his targeted audience.==

He comes off (if you don’t really know anything about him other than his delicious ice crea, biz) rational and soft spoken, not overzealous for Trump, but instead setting a definite policy agenda.

Good spot for a Republican primary. That district has plenty of voters who went with Underwood to “get something done.” It doesn’t do any good saying Mitch McConnell is the reason why things aren’t getting done with those voters. It’s an A for the primary and will get the attention of swing voters for the general.

    Needs More Helicopter.

(I kid, I kid…as Willy would say, and did)

  6. - Alfred - Friday, Jan 10, 20 @ 2:49 pm:

6/10 because 6th time is a charm when running for public office

  7. - Jocko - Friday, Jan 10, 20 @ 2:49 pm:

I give it a C. Why didn’t he rehearse his lines or, at the very least, but the cue cards/teleprompter near the camera.

  8. - Miami Mike - Friday, Jan 10, 20 @ 3:36 pm:

If Jim wants to “fix our roads and bridges” why didn’t he support the capital bill? Rezin is the only one that voted in support of it in the primary and he’s nailing her for trying to fix our roads and bridges. What a joke.

  9. - DuPage Saint - Friday, Jan 10, 20 @ 3:44 pm:

O W you may kid but that is an issue for me. Besides fact he is 6 for ten. And the fact that Republican Party can name him a “young gun” tell you a lot about the state of politics today and I guess that goes for both parties. Although the Democrats don’t have the temerity to call their leadership young guns

  10. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jan 10, 20 @ 3:53 pm:

    - DuPage Saint -

If Oberweis, and for that matter Ives, if they both win, the Trumpkins that litter those two districts will find it difficult to defeat the Democrats seated now, as POTUS will be a drag, overall, in this state.

    That’s why I kid, I can’t cry.

  11. - Flapdoodle - Friday, Jan 10, 20 @ 4:06 pm:

Weak in content, weak in delivery, weak in production value.

Primary or not, a candidate needs to create some separation between self and competition. Script is what all Republican candidates are saying, so what makes Oberweis different/better?

    C at most.

  12. - Mike Lenehan - Monday, Jan 13, 20 @ 9:55 pm:

It’s a D. Stiff and substanceless. If I’m a Republican primary voter I’m saying “Surely we can do better than this.”
