Late afternoon/evening precinct reports

Tuesday, Mar 17, 2020 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Ah, Chicago…

The answer is: Yes.

…Adding… This has been getting a lot of play on Twitter…

By coincidence, my pal Chris Dudley voted at that precinct. Her story…

Rich,

I wanted to let you know about Andy and my experience voting in Chicago this morning. Our normal polling place is at a neighborhood nursing home. We were informed last week via mail that the polling place had been changed to a new location. When we arrived at the new location this morning, the delightful poll worker informed us that our particular precinct was not voting at this location— because they never received the materials. She informed us that we would need to vote at the Police HQ on Addison (which has been the location for early voting in the 44th ward). As we departed, hand written signs we noticed (which we missed) were posted on the doors to inform the voters of our precinct where to proceed.

So off we went to the Police HQ. The line at 11:00 was very long wrapping around the building. Many candidates , including Margaret Croke, were working the line (at an appropriate distance). The poll workers were EXCELLENT. They were professional, patient and attentive to the social distancing necessary at this time. The voters in line were equally delightful. No complaining, seemed delighted to be out in the fresh air while they waited. It was encouraging to see so many folks lined up to vote. Adding, I have never stood in line to vote in all my years voting in Chicago…but was most happy to do so today.

Stay safe. Stay healthy.

…Adding… Oh, my…

* As I told subscribers this morning, I won’t have live election results here tonight, but I will have links to sites where you can see those results. I will have a ScribbleLive post for winners, however.

Now, on to the precinct reports. Tell us what you’re seeing, what you’re hearing and where you’re at. Thanks!

Re: Ed Burke, there is plenty of gossip today about him using ex-cops and such to intimidate minority voters

Due to polling place changes/late openings, the Clerk’s office has received a court order to permit 40 suburban Cook County precincts to extend voting by one hour -to 8:00pm. https://www.cookcountyclerk.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/03.17.20%20-%20Court%20Order%20-%20Late%20Closings.pdf

  6. - Streamwood Retiree - Tuesday, Mar 17, 20 @ 4:32 pm:

Voted at the usual location. Streamwood Park District at 11:00AM. Hardly any people. as I pulled into the lot I wondered if it was closed. We were #32 and #33 for our precinct. Way down from past years. Maybe everyone early voted? There always was an early voting line at the Village Hall. Great for coronavirus, huh? Maybe this will accelerate Oregon style vote by mail or internet voting. Many people are afraid of internet voting. it’s just like a voting machine. Unknown software and it sends the results downtown via internet.

  7. - anon2 - Tuesday, Mar 17, 20 @ 4:41 pm:

== 64% of the voters so far today are over 50 years old.==

That is why we can’t repeal or reduce the income tax exemption on retirement income.

35th ward, Chicago. We’re at 179, will hit 200-250. It’s within our normal primary range. Lots of folks of all ages, probably majority of folks 50 and up.

About 20 new registers on site. all young folks. Great to see. More than we usually do.

  15. - Hieronymus - Tuesday, Mar 17, 20 @ 5:43 pm:

5:30 pm Sangamon County/Springfield precinct #52 at Christ The King School. Voter #280. No line getting in, 4 precincts voting at this location, which is normal.

In the 5 minutes that I was there, maybe 3-4 others came in and were processed in immediately.

    Plenty of sanitizers and wipes.

  16. - SKI - Tuesday, Mar 17, 20 @ 5:45 pm:

Capitol 61 - Westside Springfield seemed on pace for normal turnout. I was 134 @ 4:45p

From eyewitness reports elsewhere (friends saw it first hand) - lady showed up to vote at Sangamon County Clerk’s office at 1:45 or so with a mask on saying she was supposed to be in quarantine. Not sure if it was a joke or not.

Had a friend in Saline 4 (Madison County - Highland) be handed a GOP ballot by an election judge wearing a Trump 2020 hat, after requesting a Dem ballot. He reported it to election authorities. This was 2ish this afternoon.

  17. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Mar 17, 20 @ 5:55 pm:

  18. - Lefty Lefty - Tuesday, Mar 17, 20 @ 5:57 pm:

It’s always quiet where I vote in Kane County. Not sure why.

As I hit the “ok” button I realized that, aside from Sanders and Durbin, almost everyone else I voted for were women. Very cool. Underwood, Mosser, Sanders’s delegates (1 or 2 were men), Paschke, a circuit judge to retain, Pierog, Bereiro, Holing….I don’t recall it happening before.
