And the 2020 Golden Horseshoe Award for goofiest state legislator goes to…

* Rep. Allen Skillicorn on Facebook

Some great news:

68% of IL ventilators are not in use and are available.

41% of our adult ICU beds are empty.

I know most politicians and the media want to paint a picture of doom and gloom to keep people scared, but more evidence is coming out showing that’s not the case.

The peak is coming, Allen. You cannot possibly be this stupid. It’s like saying we only need two lanes on the Dan Ryan because traffic is so light at 3 in the morning.

…Adding… I mean, is FEMA overreacting too, Allen?

There were sobering preparations for a rise in U.S. deaths: The Federal Emergency Management Agency has asked the Pentagon for 100,000 body bags because of the possibility funeral homes will be overwhelmed, the military said.

* Rep. Skillicorn on Twitter…

So, which is it, Allen?

Skillicorn next week when the stats start reflecting doom and gloom: “Why didn’t the Governor cancel the primary???”

  2. - Demoralized - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 11:20 am:

You still have plenty of Cornavirus deniers out there. Not sure exactly what it is they need to be convinced.

  3. - Chicago Cynic - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 11:22 am:

Can I say “putz?” Or just Covidiot of the day.

  4. - Chicago Cynic - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 11:22 am:

And I reject your assertion that the leader of the Eastern Bloc can’t possibly be this stupid. Oh yes he can.

  5. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 11:23 am:

=== So, which is it, Allen?===

It’s like saying being “Magnificent” should be good enough to stop a “Red Dawn” invasion that’s never happening.

The Trumpkins, and the Hateful Eight that make their own number eight with POTUS rarely look at contradictions, “alternative facts”, panic, conspiracies, as anything that seem out of the ordinary, beck they’re even embraced.

Mr. Skillicorn is not an honest broker to facts or thoughts, but dishonest to pandering and polling… and ignoring his own takes that contradict at any measure of truth.

He’s so clueless, Mr. Skillicorn thinks his contradictions make sound political sense.

I wish Mr. Skillicorn was just “goofy”…

    - You cannot possibly be this stupid. -

I’d respectfully disagree with that statement.

  7. - Not a Billionaire - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 11:23 am:

And he we avoid the worst will be credit the Governor for being one of the first shelter in place?

  8. - Roman - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 11:33 am:

The reporter for that Law Bulletin story quotes Skillicorn and Jim Oberweis in the story. Is it possible to find two more inconsequential legislators to get a react from?

  9. - Pundent - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 11:35 am:

And next week when he’s called out on it he’ll deny every having said it and lambaste the biased media.

  10. - Independent - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 11:35 am:

I believe he is auditioning for a role in the White House. Turnover there is high, and nutjob conspiracy theories abound, so his chances are probably better than one might think.

  11. - Huh? - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 11:39 am:

“Dan Ryan … traffic is so light at 3 in the morning.”

This might be the case now that we are all under stay at home orders.

  12. - Candy Dogood - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 11:44 am:

Any of you see the article about Trump being the Dunning Kruger President?

This guy is the Dunning Kruger representative.

Too dumb to not realize that he’s not as smart as he thinks he is.

What happened to the party of Nixon?

  13. - Morty - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 11:45 am:

Actually he can be that stupid

  14. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 11:49 am:

=== What happened to the party of Nixon?===

The 1968 “Southern Strategy” was used by this POTUS, but also used the anger at “Hillary” and understanding that states where “Make America Great Again” can be, well, interpreted “many ways”… not much has changed, frankly.

It’s more overt than 1968, more angry… but still white and rural.

  15. - Can - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 11:49 am:

Having a lawmaker post this kind of nonsense is one problem. But then read the comments. There are tons of people that agree with it and cheer this stuff on. They just don’t get it. We have enormously high percentages of people that just don’t have a clue.

  16. - Joe Bidenopolous - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 11:52 am:

A CBS/YouGov poll that came out this morning showed that only 35% of Republicans think the covid crisis is going to get worse in the next month, so within the cult, he ain’t the only one whistling past the (literal) graveyard.

    Skilly-crack-corn and he don’t care

  17. - Merica - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 11:53 am:

    nice analogy

  18. - Been There - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 11:55 am:

=== It’s like saying we only need two lanes on the Dan Ryan because traffic is so light at 3 in the morning.===
Great line. And as anyone knows who has been in the Ryan at 3:00 am that is when all the nuts are out driving.

  19. - Rabid - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 12:12 pm:

    People make me sick, literally

  20. - Amalia - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 12:17 pm:

can’t believe such a covidiot (hat tip Rich) has the word skill in his name.

  21. - Rudy’s teeth - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 12:19 pm:

Science and facts are difficult for some. Mouth engages before logic kicks in.

  22. - Lil Squeezy - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 12:46 pm:

He may be a covidiot, but he was an idiot long before that. People like him are dangerous and I appreciate him being called out. It should happen more often.

  23. - OneMan - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 1:00 pm:

Allen, I would suggest you go have a conversation with some of the professionals in the hospitals in your district.

  24. - West Town TB - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 1:13 pm:

Maybe we should send him to be a legislator in New York State so he can get a taste of what reality is right now.

  25. - Taylorville native - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 1:35 pm:

Come on down for a visit, Allen.

  26. - M - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 1:38 pm:

Has Rep. Allen Skillicorn even visited a hospital during a health crisis? He appears to be using Trump’s old talking points.

  27. - Commonsense in Illinois - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 2:01 pm:

Allen Skillicorn…able to pander to both sides.

  28. - Nearly Normal - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 2:02 pm:

Read that Rep Halbrook (R-Shelbyville) wants the Gov to remove restrictions from his district. Friends in the district are upset with him as there has been very little testing for COVID-19 in the area.

  29. - Northsider - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 2:03 pm:

“COVIDiot of the year” may need to be a new Golden Horseshoe category for the 2020 awards. Call it the … Skillicup.

  30. - Elliott Ness - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 2:05 pm:

Halbrook, Bailey and Miller….ya gonna let this guy get the drop on ya? 3, 2, 1………

  31. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 2:05 pm:

=== Read that Rep Halbrook (R-Shelbyville) wants the Gov to remove restrictions from his district.===

Textbook example of having to save folks from themselves.

See, then they’ll say “nanny-state” at 10 am… then ask for support, supplies, “tests” at 3 pm.

And “they” is in reference to any and all people, everywhere… that can’t rationally understand the term “greater good in a crisis”

  32. - Wire Tap - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 2:21 pm:

The amazing part is that there’s people who agree with him…some of his pals are posting that the reason why Trump reacted late is because of the impeachment…I can’t even make this stuff up

  33. - Morty - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 3:31 pm:

Honestly, how many times has Skillycorn won this?

With Dunkin and Drury gone does he even have any serious competition anymore?

  34. - thunderspirit - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 3:46 pm:

== So, which is it, Allen? ==

Whichever gins him up the most outrage, frankly.

  35. - revvedup - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 4:13 pm:

Skill? nope. Corn?; enough to feed all of Illinois livestock. Can the Governor give him a special assignment far, far away from Illinois?

  36. - Sonny - Thursday, Apr 2, 20 @ 4:44 pm:

Send him to work a shift at one of the hospitals.
