I understand, but we have put in a requirement for people to wear face coverings. And so I, you know, just like with everything else you’re not allowed to go into a restaurant without wearing shoes.
So it’s perfectly acceptable to tell people that you’re not allowed in if you’re not wearing a face mask.
The shoe requirement is a myth. The Society for Barefoot Living sent letters to every state health department in the country a few years ago to confirm it. The Illinois Department of Public Health’s 2017 response is here. Illinois has no shoe-wearing requirement.

The goal of the Governor’s updated stay at home order requiring a face covering, is to set a new normal that everyone uses a face covering so that both store workers and customers are protected. Our hope would be that the most a store owner would need to do would be to remind someone to put on their face covering who might have forgotten. Store owners do also have the option to ask customers to leave if they believe that they pose a risk to the health or safety of their employees or other customers. The expectation is that stores should enforce this the same way they’ve been enforcing other social distancing requirements: by posting signage about the face covering requirement and reminding people who aren’t in compliance.

We actually never closed dentists or doctors offices in the EO. They have the ability to operate but, I know that many dentists have chosen not to open because the challenge, as I understand, having talked to a dentist about this is that the aerosolization of someone’s saliva when they’re being worked on makes it very difficult to protect the dentist and therefore, many dentists have just been open only for emergency dentistry.

They can. I said that yesterday, I’m happy to reiterate it today.

Our executive order did not close dental offices, but IDPH has issued guidance to dentists, focusing their work on more emergency procedures. That guidance remains in place. Dental procedures are high risk for dentists and for their staff, and we’re going to continue working with the medical experts as we move forward. But right now, dental procedures should be limited to urgent health issues and emergencies, and I apologize for any confusion that my comments may have caused.

The second bothers me less than the first, I suppose, because one was an EO and the other was guidance from another executive agency rather than the Governor himself; but both are mistakes that should be easily caught by Governor Pritzker’s staff.

My problem with mandating a mask has always been and still is, Can an Executive Order Supersede Illinois Compiled Statutes? Does the Governor have the Authority to mandate wearing of a mask if it will put you in violation of 720 ILCS 5/24-1 (a) (9)?

Not to change the subject, but along the lines of “Get it Together, Man”:
I work for one of the other constitutional officers’ agencies, and I have heard no word via an updated press release or a phone call from my superiors at work on whether we are supposed to return to work–in the Capitol Complex–on Friday. Or if we will be told to stay home up until the end of May per the extended shelter-in-place order. I even asked my director when I had to call him on a work-related matter yesterday, and even he hadn’t heard anything yet. Despite the extension of stay-at-home being last Thursday. At this point both of us for sure are planning to return to work at my state office on Friday.
Has anyone else on here heard anything about state offices remaining closed to public in May–but employees still have to report to work?

It is not nitpicking. Nobody wants perfection. How many dentists are struggling because of the confusion in the order? So can they open Friday? It still seems muddy.

Huh? Without exaggeration, the Governor is dealing with an unprecedented crisis of catastrophic portions. One reaching a level which we are (hopefully) unlikely to ever see again. If this is the worst thing he does, then he’s doing superb.

I think these are fairly minor slips overall. OK, I follow dentistry so actually knew what was going on, but the Gov can’t be expected to remember every single detail at every single presser.

Chatham - IDOT sent a letter from the Secretary of Transportation that directed the staff to work remotely until directed to return to their workplace. So based on that letter, my IDOT friends are working from home until told otherwise.

There have been decals in plenty of restaurants and other businesses for a long time stating “NO Shirt NO Shoes NO Service”. Maybe it wasn’t backed by law, but certainly this miscue in no way rises to the level of the intentionally misleading statements and outright lies happening at every WH Task Force Briefing. C’mon y’all…

Because everyone on the Gov’s staff has nothing to do but look for discrepancies between agencies. We’re in turbulent times, let’s extend some grace to each other, especially those who are under relentless pressure to perform perfectly.

My dentist has postponed all procedures until she has access to proper PPE, which she has not been able to obtain in sufficient quantity.
I have/had an appointment on Friday, but my suspicion is that it will be postponed until the PPE situation has been addressed for dentists. The priority has been for clinical medical personnel (understandably), but now that the dental offices have been cleared to open, that will have to change somewhat.

About the same comfort I will take when I get laid off next week and try to access an overwhelmed website to apply for unemployment. Which is to say, the comfort that comes from shared sacrifice.

Stop missing the point. Give the Gov and his staff a break on the little, inconsequential stuff when they’re doing a huge percentage of the big stuff right.

I’ve also seen signs saying “no rollerblades” and “no outside food” too. So if some store owner doesn’t want you to drip ice cream all over her Coach purses and crash into her glass showcases its up to her I guess.
