During a Black Lives Matter protest in DeKalb, Jessica Lyons, a BLM speaker and former school board member called on the mayor to resign for calling people “thugs” last weekend.

About one in six people in DeKalb is black, though you maybe wouldn’t know it because so many live in the NW quadrant of the city. DeKalb opened a new TIF in its downtown and of 3500 downtown residents in the district, none are black.

Blackhawks chances of making it out of qualifying? United Center chances of hosting NHL games?

My mom is in an assisted living facility where one of the residents has the Covid. They isolated the resident, followed all prescribed procedures and had both the local health agency and DPH go through to verify that everything is being done properly. The next step is for the residents and staff to be tested. They have been told it will be several weeks before they can get the testing materials. Yet anyone in Sangamon County can walk up and be tested. Does this seem to be appropriate public policy?

I hope to see our local law enforcement leaders supporting the legislation that is introduced that is intended to address police brutality, police abuses of power, and increase police accountability.

While it’s encouraging to see elected officials be able to read a room and denounce a murder, lets see if those words translate into supporting legislative reform instead of efforts to protect the status quo — which only enables the “bad apples” we hear about.

Saw the 2005 Sox TV documentary last night. Reliving and remembering such glory, including going to a few games that year and seeing Big Hurt hit a home run during his brief playing time. I have at least one ticket stub from 2005.

My dad grew up in Taylorville. Went to war in a segregated army. Didn’t think much about it. That was just the way it was.

My son grew up in Naperville. Went to war in an integrated military. Didn’t think much about it. That was just the way it was.

That generational change gives me hope for the future.

So your mother lives at an assisted living facility — is it a publicly run facility or a privately run facility?

This (I presume at this point) privately run facility was unable to prevent COVID-19 infections in their residents and this privately run (maybe for profit?) facility is completely dependent on the public to provide testing materials?

And when they communicate with you, instead of accepting responsibility or ownership for their own facility that they operate, they shift the blame for your concerns onto the public health department?

Are you sure you’re not getting the run around, Jimmy?

  8. - Cool Papa Bell - Friday, Jun 5, 20 @ 9:49 am:

@Angry R’ - One of the few things the Hawks have going for them is a veteran team. They might have the mindset to overcome the lay off and preform well. But they are still old and too slow on the backend to expect long term success.

Holding it at the U-C? 25 percent chance.

  9. - Amalia - Friday, Jun 5, 20 @ 10:02 am:

Is it Friday? I can’t completely confirm. also because traditionally, Friday is pizza night and lately I want pizza every night.

  10. - Swampy Corn - Friday, Jun 5, 20 @ 10:03 am:

Bye-bye baseball. I still think there’s about to be too many sports, especially with it looking very likely that the end of this(?) season blends together/runs right up to next season. LImited TV time, limited eyes. I understand all the arguments for starting back up, but almost makes more sense to just focus on next season for the NBA and NHL.

That said, agree Hawks could make a short run, also about 25% at UC.

  11. - Tynie - Friday, Jun 5, 20 @ 10:09 am:

Amalia, it is Friday. It’s also my hubby’s birthday, but that’s not relevant to your pizza concern. Sorry, but if it were me, I’d go ahead and resume the tradition. Depending on the size of the pizza involved, you could have enough to do that for a couple days.

==Bye-bye baseball. I still think there’s about to be too many sports, especially with it looking very likely that the end of this(?) season blends together/runs right up to next season. ==

I still think that attempts could be made to ESports an entire season–but somehow make it possible to televise/broadcast those games like it was a live event (e.g., Ed Farmer/Darrin Jackson for Sox radio; John Rooney/Mike Shannon for the Cardinals Radio Network; Pat and Ron for the Cubs).

  13. - Pundent - Friday, Jun 5, 20 @ 10:15 am:

I’m not optimistic that we’ll see baseball this summer. I’d say the window closes in about a week or so given that clubs would need to have a few weeks of camp to start things back up around the first of July.

  14. - MakePoliticsCoolAgain - Friday, Jun 5, 20 @ 10:16 am:

Report out this morning 5 Alabama football players tested positive for COVID after workouts. And just like that, there goes sports for the rest of the year.

  15. - Rabid - Friday, Jun 5, 20 @ 10:21 am:

Fantasy sports is living-up it’s name, who is in the leader board

  16. - Tom - Friday, Jun 5, 20 @ 10:23 am:

Chatham Resident, if Ed Farmer is calling ESports or any games it will be very big news. /s

  17. - Last Bull Moose - Friday, Jun 5, 20 @ 11:52 am:

I think Covid 19 is going to cause real damage to some athletes. We remember Michael Jordan having a great game while playing with the flu. Covid 19 is much more dangerous. Playing through it may be fatal.

  18. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jun 5, 20 @ 11:53 am:

===having a great game while playing with the flu===

You should put “the flu” in quotes. Some say he was just really hungover.

  19. - Last Bull Moose - Friday, Jun 5, 20 @ 12:11 pm:

I stand corrected on Michael Jordan. I know people who have played football games with the flu and had no long term consequences. Would not try it with Covid 19.

  20. - RNUG - Friday, Jun 5, 20 @ 1:16 pm:

I won’t like it but I’ll live without baseball. I will have NHRA to watch on TV; the tight schedule they have announced is going to be tough on the smaller guys like Tim Wilkerson.

  21. - Eire17 - Friday, Jun 5, 20 @ 2:45 pm:

I think the 2 NHL playoff cities will be Vegas and Columbus.

  22. - Amalia - Friday, Jun 5, 20 @ 2:55 pm:

@Tynie, thanks. good meal planning advice. happy Friday.
