* Yeah? Well, I did things during the pandemic, too. Not like this. But things…

Keep it local, keep it polite. Thanks.

Don’t sell yourself short Rich. It has not been 18 months yet and Newton did not have to deal with an election

  2. - Keyrock - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 6:54 am:

Don’t compare yourself to Newton. That’s not fair. Think of yourself during the plague as Shakespeare, instead..

  3. - Flyin' Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 7:16 am:

    Show Off.

  4. - Dog Lover - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 7:55 am:

A worthwhile thing to do during a pandemic is try to lift each other up. It seems like we are inundated with coverage of tearing each other apart, but I know there are more people doing good things than those doing hurtful things.

Let’s keep our chins up. Have a good day.

  5. - Skeptic - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 7:55 am:

Yeah, but could Newton have stayed off Twitter long enough to accomplish all that?

  6. - Bruce( no not him) - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 8:02 am:

Yeah, but did Newton wear a mask?

  7. - Big Mike - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 8:27 am:

Wonder if his favorite pub was shut down?

  8. - West Side the Best Side - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 8:49 am:

Rich - You’re doing a great job keeping this blog going and civil through these tough tough times. As for me I used old cans of white paint to get my unfinished basement walls painted. Some slightly different shades of white so that has something to do with the theory of light and color, right?

  9. - Nieva - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 9:02 am:

I came up with a mode of interplanetary travel that I will be sharing with the blog later today.

  10. - Cubs in '16 - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 9:07 am:

While Newton’s accomplishments are impressive, I must admit participating in a Cornhole tourney while eating a corndog are way more noteworthy.

  11. - Drake Mallard - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 9:09 am:

This doesn’t even mention he invented that fig cookie
That goes really well with bourbon!

  12. - don the legend - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 9:22 am:

Yeah but in only eight months Darren Bailey has disproved science entirely. That’s impressive.

  13. - The Ford Lawyer - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 9:35 am:

Nieva, it doesn’t involve being shot out of a cannon, does it?

  14. - Centennial - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 9:37 am:

Gravity would exist without Newton. Intelligent, Illinois centric, political commentary would not exist without Miller.

  15. - ChicagoKid - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 9:55 am:

I expounded on Newton’s theories over the last eight months in a series of papers. However, my only copy of the documents disappeared in the mail.

  16. - twowaystreet - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 10:15 am:

But we’ve learned to make sour dough bread, grow herbs, played copious amounts of monopoly and started going to parks again… Take that Newton.

  17. - Blue Dog Dem - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 10:23 am:

Anybody out there find any statistics on number of people who had coved but never knew it? Not asymptomatic.

Lots of old people, including myself, feel like doodoo, just about every morning. Since we go thru this prepandemic, I never worried about. Just wondering.

  18. - obiter dictum - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 10:23 am:

i did eat some “newtons” (i don’t think they are called “fig newtons” anymore.) does that count?

  19. - A Guy - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 10:25 am:

    What did Wayne Newton do?

  20. - Cubs in '16 - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 10:33 am:

    ===What did Wayne Newton do?===

Sang a duet with Olivia Newton-John.

  21. - @misterjayem - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 10:42 am:

Newton’s great, but I’ve always been a Leibniz guy.

Ole Newton would have never been able to maintain the Cap Fax Blog and deal with Oscar and Rich’s hair issues.

  23. - RNUG - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 11:03 am:

I’ve spent a good part of this pandemic getting a house ready to sell (I won’t bore you with the tales of delays or trying to keep people on the job). Ended up slowly doing most the work myself, with mental health day drives in-between. Another 2 weeks to go and a bit of work I have to do while waiting on HVAC install … then it goes to the realtor.

Not sure which will make me happier, getting it sold or reaching the end of the pandemic.

  24. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 11:55 am:

I have made banana bread, with chocolate chips, lost 20+ pounds, started running, read and educated myself on some things I’ve put off, watched and binged shows I never would’ve, and I’ve missed family, friends, diners, “Waffle House” and find myself worrying and sleeping less.

Creativity during isolation is a thing. Sharing that creativity will be something that has stalled but not snuffed out. There’s that too.

I can putt on a hardwood floor like no one’s business, so watch out Tom Cross.

I’ve learned more about myself and my mental health during these pandemic months… that I need to take seriously… then I ever did in my entire life.

But, I guess the biggest thing has been that banana bread with chocolate chips.

    :)

    Be well, all.

  25. - Huh? - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 12:07 pm:

Drake - I hope you are not ruining the bourbon by dunking a fig newton into the fine liquor? Horrors

  26. - Peters Piece - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 12:43 pm:

18 months? Huh I still have 10 more to finish cleaning out the garage.

  27. - thisjustinagain - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 12:54 pm:

Issac Newton? That’s adorable, because so far I’ve invented the first faster than light propulsion system, and traveled back in time to warn myself about Covid 19, and at that at least one female acquaintance not being of sound mind before I tried dating her. Oh, and I found the remote fob for the car I had to junk. Other than that…. :)

  28. - Give Me A Break - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 1:00 pm:

RNUG we put the For Sale in our yard the day the Gov ordered the first round of statewide limits on dining, shopping and most services.

The house sat for over 60 days without one showing. After things opened up a bit in June we got a few showings. It finally sold last month with our closing in a couple of weeks. Our realtor told us houses that are priced right will move fast given the interest rates and low inventory of homes right now.

  29. - Drake Mallard - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 1:38 pm:

    huh?
No way no how. Hat tip to a fellow connoisseur. Nothing goes in my bourbon not even ice.

  30. - steven b - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 2:22 pm:

I finally mastered the Rubik’s cube…with help from my nine-year old.

  31. - Rabble - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 2:58 pm:

I managed to eat a couple apples this year…..

  32. - Jake From Elwood - Thursday, Oct 29, 20 @ 5:12 pm:

I have not posted for awhile and I think I am a bit election-fatigued. Definitely COVID-fatigued and some days just straight up fatigued.
I have replaced travel, eating at bars and restaurants and social visits with friends with Netflix, books, nature hikes, and preparing over 99% of our meals at home. I sure do miss some of the old stuff, but I can wait this out for a few more months.
It is the right thing to do.
    This too shall pass…
