If you’re gonna be a conspiracy theorist, at least put in some effort so you don’t look totally ridiculous

Friday, Nov 13, 2020 - Posted by Rich Miller

* This same legislator called the auditor general “corrupt” for years and nothing ever came of it, so he’s not exactly the greatest source…

Um, it was taken down because, thankfully, we didn’t need it. And keeping it in place would’ve cost an absolute fortune. It’s kinda funny, when you think about it, that Wehrli would be demanding to give more money to McCormick Place workers whose unions are closely allied with Speaker Madigan. Could Grant Wehrli have been a secret Madigan agent all along???

Of course not, but it makes about as much sense as that silly word salad he tweeted out today. None of it is justified.

* For example, and for the umpteenth time, this was a US Army Corps of Engineers project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said plans have already been drafted for a 3,000-bed COVID-19 hospital utilizing halls A, B, and C at McCormick Place set to open on April 24.

Speaking at the Pentagon, General Todd Semonite said McCormick Place was among 114 sites the Corps of Engineers examined in all 50 states. Semonite said the proposed conversion of the Chicago convention center would house patients in varying degrees of illness.

The Corps hired the contractors

As hospitals were overrun by coronavirus patients in other parts of the world, the Army Corps of Engineers mobilized in the U.S., hiring private contractors to build emergency field hospitals around the country.

* Wehrli could’ve also read the Sun-Times today

ā€œIf the alternate-care facility is needed in the future, this would be a state expense,ā€ says Rebecca Clark, a spokeswoman for Illinoisā€™ emergency management agency. ā€œIn addition, the McCormick Place equipment has been prepositioned throughout the state to help hospitals and other congregate-care settings enhance surge capacities.ā€

I checked with the governor’s office and was told that they had deployed the McCormick Place equipment to IDPH regions. Region 8, which Wehrli represents, has 631 beds available that were once at McCormick Place.

So, not only does Wehrli want to enrich Madigan’s pals, he also wants to deprive his own constituents of medical equipment. /s

* Onward…

This from a reporter who, I’m told, doesn’t regularly wear a mask to the governor’s press briefings. She wears a face shield instead.

And I’m not sure what the point is. Should we just stop wearing masks? Say what you mean.

Best response…

    Toodles Grant!

    If she thinks 85% of Illinoisans wear masks I’d like to invite her south of Springfield.

    Not where I live. There’s your answer.

  4. - Cricket - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 12:46 pm:

    I was and am very disappointed in Grant Wehrli’s politicalization of the pandemic. Hopefully his successor will put her constituents above politics.

  5. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 12:46 pm:

    ā€œGrant Wehrli? Wonā€™t see him no moreā€

    Heā€™s done. His own ridiculousness is why.

    Now Wehrli will have lots of time to go after Auditor Mautino, who come January *will* still be around, Wehrli wonā€™t.

    Grant Wehrli, making ā€œlameā€ mean so much more to lame duck.

    If she thinks 85% of Illinoians wear masks correctly I would like to invite her to Lake View.

    “85-90% mask wearing compliance”

    That’s how you know they’re full of it.

    Cases are spiking, so now is an excellent time to throw off our masks in protest! They also have a reply to that tweet from the doctor saying this is good for them because they’re “busy”. These people thrive on wanting others to suffer.

  8. - tea_and_honey - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 12:52 pm:

    Where I live I’d put the 85-90% figure on the not wearing a mask side.

  9. - Jocko - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 12:55 pm:

    ==in a state with 85-90% mask wearing compliance==

    Apparently 99% would’ve sounded ridiculous. And to add to Dr. Carabello’s point, we have ABS and airbags. Why bother putting seatbelts on at all? /S

  10. - Pot calling kettle - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 12:55 pm:

    ===with 85-90% mask wearing compliance===

    Not at Presidential gatherings by wealthy contributors who don’t think they can catch the virus and then bring it home and spread it around some more…or at bars and restaurants where you can’t eat and drink with a piece of cloth over your mouth…

    Also…citation, please? (The sources I find were based on self-reporting, so, they probably high.)

  11. - TheInvisibleMan - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 12:57 pm:

    Which state has 85%-90% mask usage? Because it certainly isn’t this one.

    Also, there seems to be a factual error in this post as well.

    === This from a reporter ===

    This person is not a reporter.

  12. - JS Mill - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 12:57 pm:

    Wherli’s time in office was completely devoid of any substantive legislative accomplishment. It doesn’t even seem like he made an attempt at anything other than trolling.

    The 100% masking at our school probably makes the county numbers which are probably closer to 70% look much better.

  13. - northside reformer - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 1:00 pm:

    will the ‘reporter’ cite where she got her 85 to 90% number?

  14. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 1:02 pm:

    - JS Mill -

    Lest we all forget, Wehrli considered himself an ineffective legislator. Wehrli told us how ineffective too.

    ā€œI serve in the minority party and Iā€™ve been a vocal critic of the process around here. And in return for that, what has happened is Iā€™ve had bills that just donā€™t go anywhere.ā€

    Why would *anyone* want to send someone back to the General Assembly that knows how terribly ineffective of a legislator they are… they readily admit it.

    Napervilleā€™s founding fathers will be glad to know an ineffective legislator has been replaced.

  15. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 1:11 pm:

    ===Illinois Democrat machine===

    Narrator: Wehrli was rejected by his district.

    Being divisive, then being divisive instead of saving lives is how Wehrli wants his lame duck period defined?

    Prolly why Wehrli is a lame duck to begin with…

  16. - Norseman - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 1:20 pm:

    That you get seedy politicians making up stuff to further their careers is one thing. The problem for our states and country is that we have too many who lack or refuse to use their critical thinking skills to identify how ridiculousness of Wehrli claims.

    Say goodbye Rep. Felicia.

  17. - JoanP - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 1:25 pm:

    We really need to require basic courses on logic in our schools.

  18. - Sue From 40th Ward - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 1:26 pm:

    -how terribly ineffective-

    Not everyone wants to be a mascot for the Democratic party. Mike Madigan-lite must be lucrative gig for some morally bankrupt political wannabes who tout a progressive income tax and the woke agenda.

  19. - Annonin' - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 1:27 pm:

    Whirls will missed. Guessing he can some no bid at COD or one of the other GOPie swamps in DuPage

  20. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 1:28 pm:

    === Not everyone wants…===

    Yeah, Iā€™m gonna stop ya there.

    No legislator should run on a proud record of being truly ineffective.

    You sound as ridiculous as Wehrli

  21. - Suburbanon - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 1:31 pm:

    Whoa, nice take down Rich. Too bad we don’t have video of Grant tapping out of that one.

  22. - Sue From 40th Ward - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 1:34 pm:

    -You sound ridiculous-

    If you think running on the woke agenda in the Republican primaries is a winner: put your hat in the ring. My guess is you’ll be ineffective.

  23. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 1:35 pm:

    - Sue From 40th Ward -

    Wehrli lost.

    Keep up.

  24. - Fixer - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 1:40 pm:

    Sue, you’re saying the quiet part out loud again.

  25. - Sue From 40th Ward - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 1:44 pm:

    -keep up

    Jim Edgarism lost a long time ago. Temporary tax increases that last a long time aren’t popular with many Illinois voters.

    Keep up.

  26. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 1:49 pm:

    === Jim Edgarism===

    Now youā€™re not trying, lol…

    === Temporary tax increases that last a long time arenā€™t popular with many Illinois voters.===

    Edgar never lost an election as Governor

    Wehrli was rejected, lost… and admitted and ran… on being ineffective.

    The founding fathers of Naperville should rest easy, the admitted ineffective Grant Wehrli wonā€™t be representing them.

  27. - Sue From 40th Ward - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 1:55 pm:

    Jim Edgarism might have worked years ago but it is 2020. Who needs ‘me too’ Republicans when you can vote for a Democrat?

  28. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 1:57 pm:

    === but it is 2020===

    Wehrli lost. You do know that right?

    === Who needs ā€˜me tooā€™ Republicans when you can vote for a Democrat?===

    Narrator: Wehrli lost to a woman.

    Anything else?

  29. - Pot calling kettle - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 2:04 pm:

    ==Not everyone wants to be a mascot for the Democratic party. Mike Madigan-lite must be lucrative gig for some morally bankrupt political wannabes who tout a progressive income tax and the woke agenda. ==

    Guess what? There are plenty of effective legislators on both sides of the aisle who aren’t mascots for either party. The key to success is to respect the views of others, talk about the issues with them, and find common ground; this happens in Springfield all the time. Insulting others and rocking the boat until you fall out might get a few headlines, but little in the way of progress toward political goals. Wherli rocked the boat until he fell out and, in the end, accomplished very little.

    Losing to a woman means a lot to people who care about the oppression Olympics.

  31. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 2:09 pm:

    - Sue From 40th Ward -

    Donā€™t pull a Wehrli and be angry for no reason but to be angry at people.

    Those who lose districts that have the towns their family founded do that.

    Angry is a sad way to think youā€™re smart to the politics, ask Wehrli.

    Move on. Wehrli lost. Thatā€™s not changing.

  32. - Excitable Boy - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 2:11 pm:

    -angry-

    Angry people do a lot name calling and spend much time chained to an Illinois that no longer exists. Jim Edgarism is a sad ideology of losing.

  35. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 2:18 pm:

    === Jim Edgarism is a sad ideology of losing.===

    Edgar never lost as Governor.

    Wehrli lost, admitted he was wholly ineffective, and was constantly angry.

    Move on. lol

    Iā€™ve fed your anger, instead of it being comically sad like Wehrli, itā€™s taken a turn.

    Move on.

  36. - Chicago Cynic - Friday, Nov 13, 20 @ 2:44 pm:

    “Angry people do a lot name calling…”

    Yea, tell that to the guy who I suspect you voted for who coined the names Sleepy Joe, Crooked Hillary, Little Marco, Low-energy Jeb, etc.

    And Amy, if you’re gonna make up statistics like 85-90% of IL residents wear masks, you should at least make it believable. But I wouldn’t expect you to think that far ahead. I’m sure Proft said that on air and you just lapped it up.
