I already forgot who this guy was. Did he do anything that deserves this much attention ?

    Maybe someday, we’ll miss him.

    good riddance to bad trash

  5. - Illini2021 - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:11 am:

We tried all he asked for in other states such as Kansas. Didn’t go to well…

“Sincerely, A______” A what? Can we play Match Game here and fill in the blank? All my answers would get me banned from further commenting.

  7. - Emerging lurker - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:12 am:

A fun Question of the Day: Who will be missed less in the statehouse, Allen Skillicorn or Scott Drury?

  8. - Just Me 2 - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:13 am:

I’m actually embarrassed for him for writing such a POS letter. Instead of thanking his constituents for their trust, or highlighting his accomplishments, he wants to just complain. There are enough whiners in elected office, I’m looking for hard workers.

He’s also leaving his constituents without his representation during lame duck, so….nice touch.

  9. - Gravy Bond - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:14 am:

    “Resigns in a Huff”

Nice Headline. This blog has become so incredibly partisan.

  10. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:14 am:

That might be Skillicorn’s most useful use of his letterhead during his entire time in the General Assembly.

I think the letter is… Magnificent.

  11. - Dance Band on the Titanic - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:14 am:

Snowflakes melt pretty quickly in the Arizona heat.

  12. - Westender - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:15 am:

Defunding Planned Parenthood, allowing school choice and protecting religious liberty are the first things that should be done to get Illinois back on track? Buh bye!

  13. - Fayette County - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:15 am:

    Good riddance

  14. - CCapilla - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:15 am:

    New phone who dis?

  16. - Jocko - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:17 am:

Little does Allen know that his ‘Illinois Corruption Tax’ works out to be the same as his annual water bill in Arizona.

  18. - TheInvisibleMan - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:18 am:

When do I get my thousand dollars from him after wagered that much money in assuring us all we would have faster and cheaper internet when he was pretending to know what net neutrality would do.

  19. - Tom - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:18 am:

“A fun Question of the Day: Who will be missed less in the statehouse, Allen Skillicorn or Scott Drury?” Did you know Scott Drury was a federal prosecutor?

  20. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:19 am:

    Rhetorical;

Q: How many of the Magnificent Seven are still around?

    A: Too many.

  21. - Numbers Guy - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:21 am:

So he left Illinois where the graduated income tax was defeated to move to Arizona where they have a graduated income tax. And in November, voters in Arizona approved a 3.5% income tax surcharge to those making more than $500,000 so their top income tax rate is 8%…

  22. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:21 am:

“Man. Whew. I’m glad I’m not Allen Skillicorn”

    - Grant Wehrli, maybe

  23. - Excitable Boy - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:22 am:

Illinois must have been good enough to Allen that he can afford such a sweet new pad he just had to brag about.

I hope he enjoys AZ’s retirement income tax.

  24. - Nick Name - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:23 am:

    ===defunding Planned Parenthood===

    Huh?

  25. - @misterjayem - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:23 am:

“This blog has become so incredibly partisan.”

If you don’t like Rich’s blog, I strongly encourage you to leave in a huff.

    – MrJM

  26. - NIU Grad - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:23 am:

Ah yes, the solutions to our “fiscal” challenges: “defunding Planned Parenthood…reforming collective bargaining…school choice…religious liberty…protecting the unborn.” I’m surprised he didn’t bring up immigration in there.

I’ve known Allen for a while, but honestly, good riddance. A walking lesson of how many who call themselves libertarians are just angry, MAGA hat-wearing conservatives who want to use government to punish their enemies.

  27. - NIU Grad - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:25 am:

“Illinois must have been good enough to Allen that he can afford such a sweet new pad he just had to brag about.”

Yup. Funny how all of these rich people come here to make enough money to then spend millions of dollars on trying to reduce their tax burden. It’s almost like this is actually a good place to live and that’s why we pay taxes for things, like schools and roads…

  28. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:28 am:

    - Gravy Bond -

Aw. You must’ve missed all the “love” Scott Drury got once he left.

I know, I know, you only see things in a partisan lens, my bad.

    To the post,

    I dunno who is the bigger winner here;

Skillicorn, who thinks he’s getting a “last word”

Anyone and everyone not named Allen Skillicorn excited that this is Skillicorn’s “last word”

Owning everyone has become wanting others to follow that “owning” move; resign early

  29. - Ok - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:28 am:

Looks like he sold his home here in August. Was he even a resident of the state for the election?

    Was that legal?

  30. - Birdseed - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:30 am:

He’s got his own website wrong at the bottom of the letterhead.

  31. - Steve Rogers - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:31 am:

Allen, do you need some cheese with that whine.

When did the Republican party become the party of crybabies?

  32. - OneMan - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:32 am:

Yeah, a resignation letter that mostly complains about stuff would be considered leaving ‘In a huff’.

Think about if you had a co-worker do that, hey I am quitting today and here is some of the stuff I don’t like about this place or my co-workers, or our industry.

You would say the dude left in a huff…

  33. - Club J - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:32 am:

    Hey Gravy Bond,
Rumor is Skillicorn has a house next door to his for sale in Arizona. Maybe he’ll invite you over for a pool party. You guys can whine together…

  34. - Commisar Gritty - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:35 am:

Ah yes, defunding Planned Parenthood is the only way to resolve our financial woes. Surely, we could recoup the tens of billions dollar short fall if we just stop donating $5 a month to that organization that gives people cheap mamagrams… a partisan till his last political breath.

Bye A, he’s racing Miatas in the sky now… sorry I meant Indiana Skyway

  35. - Skeptic - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:37 am:

“If you don’t like Rich’s blog, I strongly encourage you to leave in a huff.” And if that’s too soon, leave in a minute and a huff.

Thank you, I’ll be here all week.

  36. - Floyddog - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:38 am:

Beetle can’t follow him soon enough

  37. - Pot calling kettle - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:38 am:

How about some basic copy editing?

  38. - Gary Hart - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:39 am:

    People people people…

Skilly is the inventor of remote voting as we’ve seen in the past. Maybe he can stick around for a few days and vote by his pool…

  39. - Ok - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:40 am:

I will correct myself. Looks like they sold their house in Ell Grove Village for $177k in August, after buying a house in East Dundee in May for $187k.

And now he bought a house in Arizona that was worth significantly more?

When did he buy the house in Arizona?

  40. - Candy Dogood - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:42 am:

I remain surprised at how far an associates degree from Elgin Community College can propel one through life.

  41. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:43 am:

=== How about some basic copy editing?===

Do we copy edit the angry man on the porch yelling at clouds?

I wish he woulda done a theatric reading of the letter on the social media.

Of course Skillicorn would think the likes mean people agree, but in actuality it’s likes are that he’s leaving and imploding in a video, so again “win-win”, albeit Skillicorn will be oblivious.

Guess I’ll make do with an unedited screed of silly from Skilly

  42. - HL Mencken - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:52 am:

Gotta love the guys who complain about wasteful spending who then put the government to the cost of a special election that could have been avoided by him not running for re-election. I would bet anything that his staying around has something to do with receiving more pension time.

  43. - Amalia - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 10:59 am:

whine, whine, no class goodbye. just an excuse to brag about his new property. someone please tell me where in Az so I can avoid him.

  44. - illinifan - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 11:03 am:

Hope he enjoys AZ’s other taxes and higher utility costs. Maricopa County has a sales tax of 6.3 which is added to state’s sales tax of 5.6 for a whopping 11.9% sales tax. I won’t even mention car insurance rates are double from Illinois and home owners insurance is higher. Plates on a car if new will run you about $500. Throw in 53 days above 110 it will make you dream of 30 degree days. Trust me the pool does not help in that heat. And as said his retirement income is taxed.

  45. - Flyin' Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 11:04 am:

Man, Republicans are all kinds of snivelers when they lose re-election.

  46. - Just Reading - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 11:07 am:

Did he misspell his own name at the bottom of his letter in his website address?

  47. - West Side the Best Side - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 11:07 am:

“I’m moving to a warmer climate and I got a pool. So long, suckers.”

  48. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 11:15 am:

The sales tax in Maricopa county is 6.3%, not 11.8%.

  49. - @misterjayem - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 11:17 am:

“Did he misspell his own name at the bottom of his letter in his website address?”

Perhaps he’s changing his name as well as his address.

    – MrJM

  50. - A State Employee Guy - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 11:27 am:

Perhaps the best thing to say about a guy who thinks defunding Planned Parenthood will save Illinois is that he will soon be forgotten.

  51. - Illinifan - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 11:28 am:

Annonymous, reread my comment, I agree with you that Maricopa is 6.3 but it is added to the state tax of 5.6 for a total of 11.9.

  52. - Illinifan - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 11:31 am:

Annonymous since I can’t edit it is 6.3 (which is state 5.6 with county tax of .7) It can be up to 11.2 based on possible added city taxes. My goof. We need edit features here for people like me who goof up

  53. - PublicServant - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 11:53 am:

Hey Allen, Illinois will sell you parched Arizonans water for, oh say, $10.00/gallon. Go hug a cactus for me please. And, oh, Illinois is a better place with you gone. See ya.

  54. - Morty - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 11:56 am:

There goes our last, goofiest, hope.

    No, there are others…

  55. - SAP - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 11:59 am:

    Bye Felicia

  56. - Anyone Remember - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 12:12 pm:

    Anonymous 11:15 -
You omitted the non-county local sales tax (municipality). In 2020 The Tax Foundation shows a State rate of 5.6% and an “average” Local rate of 2.8% for a total of 8.4%. HOWEVER … state law allows local rates up to 5.6%, so it is possible Mr. Skillicorn may be paying a higher rate in AZ than IL. And it depends upon where he purchases, not where he resides. As always, the Devil is in the Details.

  57. - JS Mill - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 12:30 pm:

First kudos to the blog, just fantastic work folks. Took me forever to read through comments given how hard I was laughing.

Has there been a legislator more deserving of contempt than Skilly? He certainly is on the all star roster.

For a so-called libertarian he doesn’t know the laws very well does he. We already have school choice and religious liberty. Religious “liberty” is an actual right, not just a law.

Fare thee well traveler. Like Cortes, you should burn your ships when you arrive in your new land.

  58. - California Guy - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 12:41 pm:

Honestly, probably a wise move. Unless you have deep family connections or job in Chicago that requires you to stay there, why would anyone stick around for the financial pain train coming down the tracks?

  59. - Mongo - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 12:45 pm:

Candy, now there is no need to insult the many hard working and bright students at ECC. Even the directional universities, central Illinois University, and Northwestern graduate a dork or two from time to time.

To the post, this moron was/is my state rep. I have never been so embarrassed by a Member of the House or a Senator in my life. I say thank you for leaving, and good riddance.

  60. - SubRosa - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 1:37 pm:

D- for incorrect use of punctuation, misspelling your own name, and rampant purple prose.

Caput tuum in ano est, “Skillcorn.”

  61. - don the legend - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 2:49 pm:

Anonymous. But you guys keep voting for Madigan.

Like most posters to this blog, I don’t live in Madigan’s district.

    And pick a name.

  62. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 3:10 pm:

==He’s got his own website wrong at the bottom of the letterhead.==

Might be the most Skillicorn thing ever…

  63. - Skeptic - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 3:18 pm:

“But you guys keep voting for Madigan” Michael Madigan and the population trends he controls.

  64. - Elizabeth More - Tuesday, Jan 5, 21 @ 9:01 pm:

No matter what side of the aisle one stands on, Skilicorn was a snake through and through. He did every issue he stood for an injustice.
