- Ok - Sunday, Jan 10, 21 @ 9:30 pm:
Rep. Williams didn’t just show up yesterday. She has been building alliances for years. And it has paid off.
- math is hard - Sunday, Jan 10, 21 @ 9:34 pm:
Not to dispute Ms Williams, but 30% is not exactly a clear message.
- Wondering - Sunday, Jan 10, 21 @ 9:42 pm:
I’m wondering how someone with 18 votes thinks she is the chosen one. If she’s lucky, she will top out at 22-25 votes. In politics, you need to know how to count. To be Speaker you need 60 votes. As of today, she’s not even a third of the way there.
- Another Perspective - Sunday, Jan 10, 21 @ 10:02 pm:
I definitely have another perspective from Rep. Williams. What’s clear from the numbers I’ve seen is that 70% of the House Democratic Caucus supports Mike Madigan. A diverse caucus of the Black Caucus, Latinx caucus, women, downstate and moderates. The only thing clear is that he has broad support and has the best interest of the caucus top of mind. This was not a time for Rep. Williams to take a victory lap.

=== Democrites===
What’s a “Democrites”?
Do you have to mouth breath and be angry and be Rush Limbaugh person to think this is clever and winning?

To the post,
The title of this post remains true as long as 60 is denied by the 19+ to MJM.
The magic number is still 9
- math is really hard - Sunday, Jan 10, 21 @ 10:16 pm:
51 does not = 60
- Sideline Watcher - Sunday, Jan 10, 21 @ 10:17 pm:
I read it as the fact that three women are vying for the Speakship and that it’s historic and that all three are a part of the 19 that have been on this journey together. I think it’s just confused with the announcement that Willis dropped. Of the current field, if none of the 19 break, then the next speaker will be a woman.

===Speaker Karen.===
I would tell you to get [censored], but that is probably what the GOP will put on mailers in an effort to continue to remain in the super majority.
- Take a closer look - Sunday, Jan 10, 21 @ 11:19 pm:
I think we should take a closer look at anyone who sends out a misleading press release after a test vote. That release was premature and not the sign of a pragmatic chess player like Madigan.

After this first vote, it seems clear that the vast majority of House Democratic Caucus members are looking for a big tent candidate that won’t aggressively insert potentially divisive identity politics into this race.
