They can change the sign but they’ll never get the smell of apples out that office.

  2. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 8:38 am:

I guess they are keeping that space?

  3. - DuPage Saint - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 8:39 am:

I guess the font would be in the drawer from the 80s

  4. - Nagidam - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 8:41 am:

The font screw up is soooo Illinois. Sorry, I got my own problems that this will bother me. I’m sure that is all they had and wanted something up.

  5. - Amber Ale - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 8:43 am:

  8. - Ok - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 8:46 am:

I said Serif, not Sans Serif (exclamation)

  9. - Ok - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 8:47 am:

We should do something more casual, like Comic Sans

  10. - Fav Human - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 8:48 am:

    Example: Bad photoshop effort

  11. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 8:48 am:

    Dibs.

  12. - Tear One - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 8:48 am:

For the signs they are a-changin’

  13. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 8:50 am:

“It’s a great space, but we need to get rid of the typewriters and rotary phones, and there’s not a computer in the place.”

  14. - JS Mill - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 8:51 am:

The original was probably painted using lead based paint it is so old. They have to get a specialist to come in and change it.

  15. - don the legend - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 8:52 am:

Don’t miss “Speaker of the House” starring Chris Welch. Wednesdays on NBC5

  16. - Tim M - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 8:54 am:

@Osweego Willy, it’s one computer in Room 300 but it has Windows 99 software.

In addition, why are there so many yellow legal pads with MJM’S Scribbles in the office?

  17. - Indpendent - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 8:56 am:

Office of the Speaker: Bug free, for now

  18. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 8:57 am:

    Huh.

I thought when Michael left, the House first went to Clemenza, then to Pentangeli… who’s this Welch?

  19. - blue line - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 8:59 am:

    Font? Better call Mapes.

  20. - twowaystreet - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 9:00 am:

They discontinued that font in 1983.

  21. - TradedUpForMitch - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 9:01 am:

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

At this performance of General Assembly the role of Himself will be played by Our Friend Chris Welch.

  22. - Anyone Remember - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 9:02 am:

As part of the transition, Speaker Welch walks in on a routine meeting of Speaker Madigan’s staff … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uu3iCvAQCHg

  23. - @misterjayem - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 9:02 am:

Now where will members go to send and receive their urgent telegrams?

    – MrJM

  24. - Anonymous - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 9:08 am:

Why even bother changing the font ? He won’t be there long enough anyways. The treasure trove of misdeeds this guy did as Proviso School Board President is something he literally should have been federally indicted for. Now all that becomes center stage. Not to mention his brother who was arrested by DEA agents years back. He won’t be around for more than 3 cycles, guarantee it.

  25. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 9:12 am:

There has been a blathering this week it seems with “Anonymous” commenters joining the ranks.

If they’d like to add, I hope they pick a name.

    “Caption?”

“The font issue? I thought we agreed the color would be orange”

  26. - Amalia - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 9:22 am:

Another Frank Lloyd Wright design ruined with modern changes.

  27. - Essential State Employee - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 9:29 am:

Anyone remember what the font was like during Lee Daniels’ brief time as Speaker?

  28. - Jocko - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 9:53 am:

It’s better than their first choice “The New Madigan”.

  29. - DuPage Saint - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 10:14 am:

I don’t remember font for Daniels but do recall was written in disappearing ink.

  30. - MakePoliticsCoolAgain - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 11:08 am:

This makes me smile - need this this morning. Thanks Rich :) .

  31. - Rabid - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 11:33 am:

Its like the Stanley cup, you just add a name

  32. - Stuff Happens - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 1:36 pm:

“When we talked about making changes, we meant things like the font. We bought some whiteout for the letterhead too.”

  33. - Stuff Happens - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 1:37 pm:

“See, I told you this new guy was going to be Avant Garde.”

  34. - Streator Curmudgeon - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 2:18 pm:

They made Welch’s name so big there wasn’t room below it to put:

(and The Man Behind the Curtain)

  35. - thechampaignlife - Thursday, Jan 14, 21 @ 2:59 pm:

    @Anyone Remember

I thought it would look more like this:
