Isn’t this where Spain runs head first into the curtains, thinking it’s a secret map room and The Road Runner then opens the curtains to show a brick wall… after Spain runs *into* the “curtains” and sees lil road runners dancing above his head?
I’ve seen that cartoon

You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me in front of this wall — you need me in front of this wall.
When is the poor ILGOP going to realize that the reason they are being kept out of the secret room in the bowels of the Capitol is because Madigan is in there making all the decisions? /s
The fact that I always see GOP members smiley and snarky at these types of press conferences really underscores their messaging about the importance of this issue. Is it a threat to democracy or are you just trying to troll the supermajority party?
Madigan’ gone across the aisle
Leaving just a memory
A snapshot in the “Democrat” album
Mike, what else did you leave for them?
Mike, what you leave behind for me?
All in all it was just a brick in the wall
All in all it was all just bricks in the wall
We don’t need no map room hi-jinx
We don’t need no one party control
No dark sarcasm in the map room
Reporters, leave the maps alone
Hey, reporters, leave those maps alone
All in all it’s just another brick in the wall
All in all you’re just another brick in the wall
We don’t need no map room hi-jinx
We don’t need no one party control
No dark sarcasm in the map room
Reporters, leave them maps alone
Hey, reporters, leave those maps alone
All in all you’re just another brick in the wall
All in all you’re just another brick in the wall
I don’t need no maps around me
I don’t need no maps to calm me
I have seen the writing on the wall
Don’t think I need anything at all
No, don’t think I need anything at all
All in all it was all just bricks in the wall
All in all you were all just bricks in the wall
Please tell me the person on the left is wearing loafers to complete the worst politician look there is… sports jacket over polo shirt, blue jeans and loafers. Ick. Just put on a suit, bro.
This sort of craziness isn’t going to change until we have federal election reform that somehow addresses states from pointing the finger at one another by saying “well Texas or this state is doing it.”
There has to be some kind of work around to state sovereignty whether it be through matching dollars via Medicaid etc.
OW-I think we’ve found Rich’s Friday afternoon playout song for today…

Fair Maps. An issue that has garnered hundreds of thousands of petitions in support of an independent commission, is still mocked on this blog as some sort of silly issue. It’s a real issue, that deserves better from this blog.
Dear Mr/Ms UCS
The challenge is the GOPies and the Transparents never tell everyone else what their post Fair Map IL will look like. Hence a mish mash of comments
BTW guessin’ Peoria voters are crushed Pointy isn’t their new mayor.
@ USC - If the ILGOP wants to look better than Wiley Coyote or Daffy Duck, then they need to hire a consultant to draw some proposed maps that has some appearance of neutrality. Seems rather easy given available tools today. But I get it… it’s cheaper to convince the media to come to a press conference to point at a wall or a not-so-secret locked door.
- Dance Band on the Titanic - Friday, May 14, 21 @ 3:05 pm:
We need one of them to introduce legislation that creates a blue ribbon task force on brick walls.
Illinois isn’t the state that has had partisan maps thrown out by courts, with quotes like “This map disenfranchises African-American voters with a near-surgical precision.” Illinois, when you look at representation vs the popular vote, is actually one of the best maps in the midwest.
That being said, I’m sure 90% of the people in this comment section, that you seem to draw issue with for laughing at an unforced error of political theater, would agree to fair maps being implemented on a Federal level. We’re not being the bad guys for playing by the rules. It’s the rules themselves that are broken, but that fix should be applied to all states. Especially as the right tries to push forth the biggest disenfranchisement effort in the last half century.
