    ===Stay in an ICU===

Retail Merchants Association: “We urge local authorities to enforce the mask mandate.”

    East Peoria Mayor: “Fuhgetaboubtit.”

  7. - Dirty Red - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 2:24 pm:

The workers at the boat, Bass Pro, fish markets, conference center, and the region that relies on the Peoria as their center of commerce deserve better.

  8. - Glengarry - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 2:27 pm:

The people of E Peoria and the rest of Tazewell County need to vote better.

  9. - Ducky LaMoore - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 2:27 pm:

Am I crazy, or isn’t it the Tazewell County Health Department who has the authority here?

  10. - OneMan - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 2:38 pm:

Hey any chance Mr Mayor you can do that with some vice laws as well?

Also I guess I missed the day in school when they told us mayors could just ignore laws

  11. - wildcat12 - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 2:40 pm:

“We encourage everyone to respect each other”

No you don’t. Because the most respectful thing any of us can do right now is get a vaccine and wear a mask.

  12. - illinifan - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 2:44 pm:

Love the line about being respectful of others, as he disses the governor and his public health department through his decision. He obviously missed the leadership lesson about leaders being persons who have to make hard decisions that their constituency does not like but the decision is for the benefit of the greater society.

  13. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 2:49 pm:

“Meh, you can only die once, amirite?”

    - East Peoria Mayor

  14. - Jocko - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 2:50 pm:

==Just ask the family members of those cancer patients who were never given an opportunity to survive because the FDA had yet to approve for them a treatment that appeared to be effective during clinical trials.==

Hey Mayor Whatabout, (1) did you get the jab? (2) did you miss yesterday’s posts from the business community encouraging mask use?

  15. - Bruce( no not him) - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 2:53 pm:

==We encourage everyone to remain respectful of each other and to be respectful of any policies…==
“But we urge you to ignore them respectfully.”

  16. - Club J - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 2:55 pm:

Is there a hospital in East Peoria?

  17. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 2:59 pm:

“…’Virus’… is a five letter word”

    - East Peoria mayor

    “So is … ‘Death’… “

    - Covid 19, possibly

  18. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 3:05 pm:

East Peoria. We straddle the border between the Eastern and Western Blocs.

  19. - Nearly Normal - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 3:28 pm:

Note to self–East Peoria won’t get my $$ anytime soon.

  20. - Asteroid of Caution - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 3:31 pm:

He’s got his sights set on higher office.

    Mayor of East Peoria today.
King of Goofy Ridge someday soon.

  21. - Zim - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 3:31 pm:

Duly noted. I’m going to be spending a fair amount of time and some money in the Peoria area for a while. I’ll be sure my spending is confined to the west side of the river as much as possible.

  22. - LakeCo - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 3:42 pm:

Just for giggles, I replaced a few words. Wonder if he still agrees.

I support a person’s choice to have an abortion, no different than I do a person’s choice not to. That is a personal decision that only you should make and one that should be kept private unless you alone decide to share it with others.

  23. - JS Mill - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 3:43 pm:

=The people of E Peoria and the rest of Tazewell County need to vote better.=

Yeah, no. That is a prevailing attitude in those parts.

But good to know that in East Peoria we can pick and choose the rules we follow. I like to drive really fast. I also like to have a cold one in hand as I visit the various retail outlets too.I assume the mayor has no issue with that.

    My kinda guy. /s

  24. - dougIL - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 3:56 pm:

And this is one of the reasons why the darkness of Covid will overshadow us all for a lot longer than it has to.

  25. - Just Me 2 - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 3:56 pm:

Hmmm….let’s ask the hospital administrators just a mile away and across the river what they think of this policy.

  26. - Chicago 20 - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 3:57 pm:

Kahl is giving his constituents what they think they want.
Too bad they won’t vote for Kahl after they contract or die from Covid.

  27. - Princeton - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 4:00 pm:

Princeton Mayor on facebook posted that the police will not be enforcing this due to it not being a law as well.

  28. - Stormsw7706 - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 4:17 pm:

I used to go to East Peoria. My dollars will also be spent elsewhere.

  29. - synchromesh - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 4:21 pm:

    Good for him

  30. - Pundent - Friday, Aug 27, 21 @ 4:32 pm:

Maybe he’s not opposed to masks. It could be that he just thinks that the businesses and residents of East Peoria haven’t suffered enough.
