Someone spray painted The Bean yesterday. I’m generally against overly punitive sentencing, but I’d make an exception in this case.

  2. - Flyin' Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Tuesday, Mar 1, 22 @ 8:46 am:

Upper 60’s and sun next couple of days and 70 by Friday.
Will be mowing in southern Illinois in three weeks.

Apparently Casey’s is making their customers give up donuts for Lent, after some situation with customers creating their own drive-thru pickup spot for them. Or so it says in 217 problems.

Sap from maple trees is running like crazy.

I haven’t checked that site but that sounds like Casey’s attempt at a March Fool’s Day joke. (Which may have some legitimacy as March used to be the first month in the old Roman Calendar prior to Julius Caesar).

Happy New Fiscal Year’s Day to the City of Springfield.

Which bakery is the must stop bakery for Pączki Day?

No matter your choice, I hope you support a local bakery today, it’s days like these where your local bakery needs the business.

  8. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Tuesday, Mar 1, 22 @ 9:15 am:

I had never seen this before last night, but on last night’s WAND Channel 17 6pm weather, Jim Kocik devised a “Pothole Filling Day” (or some other name like that) forecast for today thru Thursday using traffic light imagery. All days had the Green Light. Springfield Public Works and Mayor Langfelder, might want to heed WAND’s hint and start filling at least some of the worst potholes on the city’s worst thoroughfares during this nice week (e.g., 5th and 6th streets, MacArthur). Also Chatham and Sangamon County highways could use a few potholes filled too.

= must stop bakery for Pączki Day =

Hanna’s Polish European Bakery in Bloomingdale bought for all my co-workers. Amazing, particularly the rose-hip.

Why didn’t I buy a paczki when I was at the coffee shop this morning? Why? I make bad decisions.

Which part of MacArthur? Parts of it are IDOT’s.

I’ve been following Chicago Timeline on twitter, it started tweeting out minute for minute what was happening during the fire on the 150th anniversary of the Chicago fire last October. Quite interesting. We have past the point in early Feb when the two top firemen had a public spat and accused one another of incompetence and drunkenness. Currently we’re at the point where the relief is shut off out of the customary moral panic that free food will make people lazy.

I’ve been fascinated that several things going on now could be compared with what went on there. There were people claiming that arsonists were setting the fire and there were people claiming that others were intentionally spreading COVID. And the idea of relief and how if there is relief (no matter how meager) people won’t work.

It has almost convinced me there are no new arguments.

discussion among friends about who bought what where is like Paczki wars…such strong opinions about which bakery is best and how the paczki is supposed to be constructed. sorry traditionalists, I’m team creative.

A local Effingham radio station is reporting that thousands of semi trucks currently are passing through on I-70 eastbound, headed for Washington, as part of some protest movement. State police are reportedly warning motorists on the interstate to drive carefully. Supposed to be a big gathering of support at the big cross along the interstate. Not sure what they’re protesting or if this is tied to the recent trucker protest in Canada.

==Which part of MacArthur? Parts of it are IDOT’s.

The stretch between South Grand and Wabash–which IIRC that is the IDOT part (even though the Route 54 signs were dropped in the 80s).

Who’s still wearing masks at work and other places? Count me in (maybe for at least a few more years, if not longer).

  17. - Club J - Tuesday, Mar 1, 22 @ 10:19 am:

Was just wondering how the turnout was for the big political announcement party Tom DeVore had last night in Springfield. He never wants his lawsuits there but he makes the announcement everyone already knows there.

I seen yesterday where DeVore said his people took down DCFS and got the masks off the baby’s at the Daycares.

Then this morning on the Greg Bishop WMAY morning show. Greg spent some time letting everyone know Governor is saying he’s lifting these mandates. But per Tom DeVore who is adding people and parents and students to these still ongoing lawsuits daily that the Governor isn’t doing anything cause the Judge already decided that. At first I thought it was a paid commercial for DeVore but it was just Bishop’s story.

= Who’s still wearing masks at work and other places? =

I expect that I will continue to wear a mask, at least where there are a lot of people, and at least until spring gets here and I’m outside more. I went through the last two years not only without COVID, but without the flu OR a cold. Masks protect us from a lot of things.

  19. - Highland, IL - Tuesday, Mar 1, 22 @ 10:43 am:

DeVore was in the Worden Mardi Gras parade this weekend being pulled by septic tank company truck. Just saying.

  20. - Avocado Toast - Tuesday, Mar 1, 22 @ 11:02 am:

Why are masks not required in day cares for children under 5? I’m over here trying not to hyperventilate today. Parents are already worried about sending their children to day care. Now teachers don’t have to wear masks? What’s the alternative? Quit your job to ensure they are safe? I am so incredibly tired.

Hug a parent today. They need it.

  21. - Demoralized - Tuesday, Mar 1, 22 @ 11:11 am:

==Who’s still wearing masks at work and other places?==

No masks for me. And I will likely never wear a mask again with the exception of places that still require it like airports and airplanes. And I’ll stop wearing them there too as soon as they lift the mandate.

  22. - Product of the '60's - Tuesday, Mar 1, 22 @ 11:23 am:

I’m still masking for awhile. Yesterday morning saw roughly 75% of everyone, including workers, wearing masks at my local Jewel in suburban Chicago. In afternoon at a car dealership about a quarter of the public was wearing masks. And at my granddaughter’s day care, they are still wearing masks….and she’s never had a problem with it.

  23. - Cheryl44 - Tuesday, Mar 1, 22 @ 11:29 am:

Gene’s Sausage Shop in Lincoln Square for Pączki.

I’m still masking. The CTA wants me too, and I find it easier to just put it on and leave it on then to remember to put it on for the bus.

  24. - Ashland Adam - Tuesday, Mar 1, 22 @ 11:32 am:

Finally - good petitioning weather! Oh, wait….

  25. - Leslie K - Tuesday, Mar 1, 22 @ 12:05 pm:

= Who’s still wearing masks at work and other places? =

I’m still masking. At least until we are out of flu season, possibly longer. And still wearing a glove when I gas up the car. I always thought handling the gas pump was a little gross; now I can glove up without looking like a complete lunatic.

  26. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Mar 1, 22 @ 6:04 pm:

    - Donnie Elgin -, - Cheryl44 -

Thank you, both. Always appreciate when I can find new places, and support small businesses too.
