Question of the day

* Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee…
With results still coming in, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee has made sweeping gains on a historic night including more than 300 state legislative seat flips and at least ten statehouse majorities flipped from red-to-blue.
This is the single largest shift in the balance of statehouse power since the Republican Red Wave in 2010 and is the largest number of Democratic chamber flips in a single election since 1982.
The biggest victories of the night include ten new statehouse majorities:
• Georgia House
• Michigan House
• Minnesota House
• New Hampshire House
• New Hampshire Senate
• North Carolina House
• Pennsylvania Senate
• Texas House
• Wisconsin Assembly
• Wisconsin Senate
* Illinois Freedom Caucus…
Last night’s Republican losses in the Illinois House of Representatives continue a trend that began seven years ago under then-Republican Leader Jim Durkin, who has since thrown his support behind Democrat Governor J.B. Pritzker, according to the Illinois Freedom Caucus.
The Illinois Freedom Caucus is issuing the following statement:
“In just four presidential cycles, Republicans have declined from 54 seats in the House to an extraordinary low of at least 35 seats after tonight’s results, with several races still undecided.
The question we ask our fellow Republicans is simple - how much worse does it need to get before we try something new? New people, new ideas, new strategies, and a new direction for Republicans in the General Assembly.
We are ready to unite as Republicans and look to the future, but we cannot ignore failure. Tonight was an absolute disaster.
The 2028 election starts now.
We look forward to hearing from our colleagues about their ideas for the future, because the only way to influence change is by winning elections.”
Seems like this is more than an Illinois problem right now But there are all those other cycles they mentioned, too.
* The Question: Your advice for Illinois legislative Republicans? Explain.

There’s not much real advice to give. You can’t win elections if you don’t have a base. When you don’t have a seat at the table: you aren’t at the table.

Dump Trump. When even Sangamon County goes blue, you need to take the hint.
Reconnect with and rebuild the moderate suburban bench. Until you remember that this is how elections are won in Illinois, you won’t win anything.

Listen to the Freedom Caucus, continue taking it easy. I like this trend.
- JSI - Wednesday, Nov 4, 26 @ 10:40 am:
The irony continues to be the Freedom Caucus not realizing they are the problem here. Let’s stop nominating crazy in the primaries. Also, let’s acknowledge that we are a deep blue state and we must be willing to work with democrats for the sake of our constituencies. If not, our constituencies should at least elect a conservative democrat, just so they have a seat at the table; the very table Republicans aren’t needed to sit at.
- Irreverent - Wednesday, Nov 4, 26 @ 10:46 am:
Maybe you should triple down on coalescing all the single-issue extremists.

**Your advice for Illinois legislative Republicans? Explain.**
How about writing a coherent statement?
“a trend that began seven years ago … In just four presidential cycles”
Like, do they think this was a Presidential cycle?
- Suburban Mom - Wednesday, Nov 4, 26 @ 10:56 am:
They can’t win until they can win in the suburbs and they’ve shown over and over again they don’t care about winning in the suburbs and will actively sabotage plausible suburban candidates. So … Keep doing what you’re doing, I guess? It won’t work but you’re very committed.
