*** UPDATED x2 *** Trump organization schedules “Save America Rally” near Quincy for June 25

Thursday, Jun 16, 2022

* Click here to see the sign-up page. Mendon is about 16 miles from Quincy. That’s where the fairgrounds are.

Looks like it’s really happening, campers. Buckle up!

*** UPDATE 1 *** Rodney Davis campaign…

Rodney Davis, Republican candidate for Congress in the 15th District, released the following statement after President Donald Trump announced a campaign rally to be held in Adams County on Saturday, June 25:

“I’m proud of my conservative record of working with Trump when he was in office, and I won’t shy away from it. I’m focused on winning this campaign, firing Nancy Pelosi, and re-implementing the many policy successes we had when Trump was president, like building the wall, cutting taxes, and making America energy independent again.

“As the future Chairman of House Administration, I will also be focused on investigating the security failures leading up to January 6, finding out if Speaker Pelosi had a role in those failures, and holding her sham Select Committee circus accountable.

“I would hope President Trump and Republican voters are aware of the baggage Mary Miller has, including a convicted pedophile serving as her personal driver, her rhetoric encouraging illegal immigration, her vote with the Socialist Squad to defund the military, and her close ties to an anti-Trump Super PAC. Time and again, Mary Miller has put America last in Congress.”

*** UPDATE 2 *** Not a huge surprise considering the personal ties between Irvin’s campaign staff and Rodney…

Good luck finding spray tan in a 50-mile radius.

  2. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:01 pm:

Welp, either this will sink Davis and elevate (and make ruinous) MAGA downstate to cult-like rabidity…

… or Trump will fail and the ILGOP Will need to re-evaluate what Trump can or can’t do in Illinois, even in the ILGOP.

    Buckle up, indeed.

  3. - Ron Burgundy - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:03 pm:

Repeating my prior advice - If that organization wants anything from you get paid, in cash, 100% up front.

  4. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:03 pm:

Davis is also learning… getting burned by Trump … Cults have no loyalty… and it might cost him.

  5. - Real - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:06 pm:

At least Trump is throwing a rally in places in Illinois where Richard Irvin has abandoned. He likes to talk the right wing talk but doesn’t want to go where the right wing resides.

  6. - Occasionally Moderated - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:08 pm:

You can’t get there from here!

  7. - Lake villa township - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:09 pm:

Makes sense as to why I just got a text from jb talking about trump

  8. - thisjustinagain - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:14 pm:

They meant “Save America From Me”, right?
Careful, he might incite an r-thing again. “Today Mendon, tomorrow Watseka”. And like the old Time-Life book series TV ad “It began as a twisted dream…”

  9. - Norseman - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:14 pm:

Davis has sunk pretty low to enhance his political career. We’ll find out if it was low enough for the MAGAts.

  10. - Manchester - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:18 pm:

I grew up in that area. It’s definitely MAGA country. On the plus side, that’s really slumming for Trump.

  11. - Pundent - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:20 pm:

Rallies and endorsements are an important part of the former President’s public relations strategy and an opportunity to continue to air grievances to supporters. It serves the multiple purposes of Trump, Miller, and Bailey. But it is very much a Faustian bargain.

  12. - vern - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:23 pm:

I think there’s still a Trump-shaped hole in the wall of the UIC Pavilion from when he skedaddled out of there in 2016. I’m surprised he’s willing to have a rally anywhere in Illinois, that welcoming committee spooked him but good.

  13. - Three Dimensional Checkers - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:24 pm:

Kind of unsurprising. It’s a way for Trump to preen and prove he’s still relevant.

  14. - Huh? - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:25 pm:

My oh my, how far the tramp has fallen. Coming to a backwater of Illinois to stump for people of minor influence.

As others have said, get the reimbursement cash up front. Keep your hand on your wallet, leave the rings and watch on the dresser at home.

  15. - Amalia - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:31 pm:

Keeping a list, checking it twice, gonna find out whose Trump support puts them on the not nice list.

  16. - Sue - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:38 pm:

Can only hope we get a torrential rain storm that evening

  17. - Jocko - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:40 pm:

DJT in Mendon: “Aw, it’s not for you. It’s more of a Shelbyville (Missouri) idea.”

  18. - Former Downstater - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:43 pm:

Damn, there’s not much difference between Davis and Miller anymore, is there?

  19. - Thomas Paine - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:53 pm:

For goodness sake Rodney, they tried to kill VP and former Congressman Mike Pence.

And you still want to blame Nancy Pelosi for January 6th?

  20. - So_Ill - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:56 pm:

==“As the future Chairman of House Administration, I will also be focused on investigating the security failures leading up to January 6, finding out if Speaker Pelosi had a role in those failures, and holding her sham Select Committee circus accountable.==

    What a disgusting person.

  21. - TooManyJens - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 5:58 pm:

Davis finds the overt Nazi stuff distasteful. Other than that, he’s been working hard to close the gap. That fake “moderate” and “bipartisan” schtick he cultivated when he was in a closer district won’t fly in the 15th so he has to compensate for it.

  22. - Huh? - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 6:02 pm:

What no grandstand? Tramp in a hog barn? What is the germaphobe going to do?

  23. - Candy Dogood - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 6:05 pm:

===“As the future Chairman of House Administration, I will also be focused on investigating the security failures leading up to January 6, finding out if Speaker Pelosi had a role in those failures, and holding her sham Select Committee circus accountable.===

This statement might be safe for the primary which is in the very near future, but this kind of campaign message may not feel as good in the general election as the public learns more, and more, and more about the plot that Rodney Davis’ is complicit in covering up if he himself did not participate in it’s orchestration.

    Rodney Davis is a coward.

  24. - prairiedog - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 6:12 pm:

Maybe Rodney can have a competing rally with the current President. There seems to be a photo of the two of them together.

  25. - John Dallas - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 6:14 pm:

I’ve been blessed to meet & know Mary Miller & her family for several years [ I couldn’t believe she ran for office a few years back - She was to nice and down to earth to survive the political enviroment…Luckly I was wrong!]…She’s first and foremost a Christian & She has and always will vote from her heart - She can not be bought by special interest….Mary is simply Heaven Sent! Rodney Davis has been bought and payed for by the unions - & who knows who else. If congress was filled w/ Mary Millers our country would Truly be Great Again! May God Bless Mary [& Trump]

  26. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 6:16 pm:

    To Davis?

    The lesson of that response is this;

After all the Trumpian silly and ethical gymnastics Davis tried to be liked by Trump but not be Mary Miller… it was always gonna be Mary Miller over Davis, because cults are like that.

Davis might be exactly where Kinzinger sits July 1st.

Will Davis sleep as well as Kinzinger?

  27. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 6:21 pm:

    === She’s first and foremost a Christian===

Religion is not a litmus test for a political party, but is required for a cult.

Are non-Christians “anti-American”… words are not mistakes.

    ===Mary is simply Heaven Sent===

Culty. Plain and simple. Religious language to describe one in politics, without self-awareness… this is where the GOP fails the country.

=== May God Bless Mary [& Trump] ===

Narrator: Mary Miller quoted the national socialist leader of Germany in WWII, also said he got something right.

    God bless, indeed.

  28. - MrMisery - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 6:23 pm:

    @john Dallas

    Lol…

  29. - Cheese & Rice - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 6:30 pm:

Investigate Nancy Pelosi? I thought It was a peaceful demonstration of patriots! If she invited them in, does that make her the MAGA queen? Oh, right, it was Antifa infiltrators. Who Trump thinks are very special.

  30. - Candy Dogood - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 6:31 pm:

===Will Davis sleep as well as Kinzinger? ===

Lets not spend too much time speculating on the existence of mythical creatures for which there is no evidence, like Rodney Davis’ moral conscious.

  31. - Proud Papa Bear - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 6:31 pm:

OK class, who’s using a fake handle to make fun of MAGAs?

  32. - Pundent - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 6:41 pm:

=I will also be focused on investigating the security failures leading up to January 6, finding out if Speaker Pelosi had a role in those failures, and holding her sham Select Committee circus accountable.=

After watching day 3 of the hearings I didn’t walk away wondering about Nancy Pelosi’s role. But I guess this is what happens when you create a MAGA district.

  33. - Grandson of Man - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 6:45 pm:

Looking to see how Bailey tries to work with this to his advantage. This seems like something for him to really try to profit from somehow, if not by getting an endorsement. He does not have another serious pro-Trump competitor like himself.

  34. - ZC - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 6:47 pm:

So many things to rightly mock Trump, Davis and Miller for, but the constant references to an “Illinois backwater” are so self-defeating. It’s like some posters on this blog are trying to echo the GOP talking points for free.

It’s part of IL, too. If Trump wants to rally in that location, who cares.

  35. - Voting2022 - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 6:57 pm:

= Can only hope we get a torrential rain storm that evening=

Trump her a rally for Dr. Oz in PA at a fairground when there was pouring rain. Won the primary by 951 votes and will more likely than not be PA’s next US Senator.

  36. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 7:01 pm:

===more likely than not be PA’s next US Senator.===

    Huh. Really.

Even FoxNews has reported Oz down by 9 points.

  37. - Lurker - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 7:08 pm:

Dallas, I’m not sure why anyone would say God Bless Donald Trump when he has resorted lying said he dies not believe and that believers are gullible.

To Rodney comments, he has always been a follower. I would have hoped he would break from that shell.

  38. - Big Dipper - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 7:08 pm:

==Trump her a rally for Dr. Oz in PA at a fairground when there was pouring rain. Won the primary by 951 votes and will more likely than not be PA’s next US Senator.==

You mean the highly ethical Oz who actually lived in New Jersey and used his parents’ address?

  39. - Lurker - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 7:10 pm:

Sorry, typing too fast I see…
… he has repeatedly said he does not believe and …

  40. - Amalia - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 7:11 pm:

Big Dipper, don’t you mean Dr. Oz who was registered to vote or about to vote in Turkey……the country, not some PA town.

  41. - Norseman - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 7:45 pm:

As is now standard with the MAGA GOP, when they accuse the opposition of a bad act it’s a guarantee that they will be the ones who actually engage in the behavior. Davis is projecting his own intent to create a sham committee.

  42. - Jibba - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 7:48 pm:

===finding out if Speaker Pelosi had a role in those failures, and holding her sham Select Committee circus accountable===

If you ever believed Rodney Davis’ “bipartisan” image and rhetoric, can you now see that his is an empty suit, devoid of integrity? But he’s been laughing at the voters of the former IL 13 for years with his shtick, so I’m guessing he thinks he can pull this over on his new voters as well. Good riddance.

  43. - Candy Dogood - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 7:48 pm:

It’s probably a public service at this point to remind vendors of all types and sorts to get paid in advance.

  44. - AlfondoGonz - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 7:54 pm:

The occasional infestation of this place but bots and non-resident trolls is the most alarming harbinger of the inevitable.

  45. - Occasionally Moderated - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 8:05 pm:

“Non-resident Trolls” would make a great band name.

  46. - Manchester - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 8:15 pm:

Whatever will the orange one do when it’s 95 degrees and humid and his orange glow runs?

  47. - Anon221 - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 8:44 pm:

“As the future Chairman of House Administration…”

Maybe not this go ’round Rodney. Karma is really, well, a _______ this time around. He can’t condescend his way out of this one like he’s done in the past. That strategy is just an appetizer for MAGAs.

  48. - hisgirlfriday - Thursday, Jun 16, 22 @ 10:45 pm:

Rodney’s comments on Jan 6 are not surprising if you have been paying attention to all his efforts to cover up the Capitol complex tours that his colleague Rep. Loudermilk gave on Jan. 5 to people who were rioters on Jan. 6.

As to the Trump rally, I just hope his fans do not cause any damage to private property the way they damaged and disrespected the cemetery next to the Bloomington airport by using gravesites as a parking lot for Trump’s rally there.

  49. - A-Man - Friday, Jun 17, 22 @ 7:52 am:

Pre-Trump and Post-Trump Rodney are unrecognizable…extremely sad to be honest.

  50. - Narc - Friday, Jun 17, 22 @ 8:01 am:

It’s kind of astonishing to see Rodney blatantly admit to planning to use a Congressional investigation as retaliation. He’s not even pretending to investigate the Comission *for* anything. Just turn it into another Benghazi sideshow, full of sound and fury, wasting taxpayers money.

  51. - OneMan - Friday, Jun 17, 22 @ 8:07 am:

Am I a bad person for wishing that Rod is one of Trump’s opening acts for this rally?

  52. - Big Tent - Friday, Jun 17, 22 @ 8:14 am:

This event should be renamed “The Save America….from Trump” rally.

  53. - Bud - Friday, Jun 17, 22 @ 8:35 am:

    Really big tent

That’s funny considering the state the economy is in right now

  54. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jun 17, 22 @ 8:39 am:

===the economy is in right now===

So you support the end of democracy and the rise fascism?

    Good to know.

  55. - Pundent - Friday, Jun 17, 22 @ 8:57 am:

=That’s funny considering the state the economy is in right now=

Economies rise and fall it’s an inherent feature. The preservation of democracy requires actual work. No one should be dismissive when it’s imperiled regardless of where the economy is at any particular point in time.

  56. - Ron Burgundy - Friday, Jun 17, 22 @ 9:51 am:

-She’s first and foremost a Christian-

With an awful lot of hatred for other people.

  57. - Mr K - Friday, Jun 17, 22 @ 12:20 pm:

Maybe Trump will get a chance to meet the little old lady in Sprout’s (a restaurant in Quincy that’s been there for years and years) who kept telling Rauner to “Stay strong, Governor. Stay strong! We love you!”

    Or maybe not.

Strange that it’s in Mendon. As nearly-lifelong Quincy person (now out of town) there’s plenty of venues of Quincy that might work — the high school football field, the Quincy University soccer/athletic fields, etc. etc.

But at least folks will get a chance to see the Round Barn (and maybe even the windmill in Golden?).

Amazing that Trump is even coming anywhere close to Quincy and Mendon.

  58. - low level - Friday, Jun 17, 22 @ 12:27 pm:

I signed up for the rally. Have no intention of going, lol.

As for Griffin snd Rodney, he is wasting his money (again). Miller is going to win that race. Must be nice to be on the Griffin gravy train, however.

  59. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jun 17, 22 @ 12:44 pm:

===Trump is even coming anywhere close===

It’s just across the river from Iowa.

  60. - Arsenal - Friday, Jun 17, 22 @ 1:52 pm:

==That’s funny considering the state the economy is in right now ==

20 million people lost their jobs under Trump.

  61. - Norseman - Friday, Jun 17, 22 @ 4:26 pm:

    I agree with George Conway.
