Can’t believe Tuesday is almost here.

  2. - Anon221 - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 9:00 am:

    Copi anyone? https://www.illinois.gov/news/press-release.25089.html

  3. - Old and In the Way - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 9:02 am:

Predictable. They also “forgot” the Kellogg announcement.

  4. - Lake Villa Township - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 9:02 am:

I’m just going to keep saying it, the north central service metra line that runs through ohare and western lake county on its way to Antioch needs to start running on the weekends. It would do wonders for economic growth up here.

    “What’s on your mind?”
The Tribune front page article on doing business under Mayor Irvin in Aurora and wondering what those initial Irvin voters are thinking.

  6. - Far To Walk - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 9:07 am:

Noticed some Sullivan signs pop up over Monmouth and on the highway down to Quincy. Interesting but signs don’t vote.

  7. - Excitable Boy - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 9:11 am:

Illinois lost a good man and public servant last weekend. Ramon packed a lot into a far too short life, my deepest sympathies go out to his wife and four children. RIP.

Monmouth reminds me of a college town (it does have one in it) so maybe Bailey isn’t going to appeal as much there, at least among the students and staff.

  9. - Shibboleth - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 9:15 am:

=Noticed some Sullivan signs pop up over Monmouth=

Spotted my first Sullivan sign in Carbondale today. Went up overnight.

    ===Went up overnight.===

These things do happen before primary day. lol

  11. - Joe Bidenopolous - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 9:27 am:

I have a mild scrabble addiction. And because I’m cheap, I have to sit through ads in the app I use. For the last two weeks, about every other ad has been the Proft anti-Irvin ad. I live in Chicago. Don’t know if they’re just blasting to everyone in Illinois or geofencing the city or whatever, but I’m not the target audience for that.

    Still, I find it amusing

  12. - MisterJayEm - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 9:28 am:

Serious question: Are these new Sullivan signs 1) in the yards of homes, or 2) on the side of the road?

The first is much more meaningful than the second (if only because the second is almost meaningless).

Glad to see the Griff is headed to Miami to share his poison and to enjoy sinking into the sea.

  14. - Stu - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 9:38 am:

    Griffin headed to Miami.

  15. - DownSouth - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 9:39 am:

After yesterday’s trip to the grocery store, pretty happy that we are pretty self-sufficient. Thankful for my freezer full of fish and game. I have to wonder how families with several children (especially if they have teenage boys that are bottomless pits) are coping with the increased costs.

  16. - Nearly Normal - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 9:39 am:

No surprise here–reported at 9:30 am–
Ken Griffin moving hedge fund headquarters from Chicago to Miami

  17. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 9:42 am:

Griffin, personally, has done more damage to Illinois then any good of Griffin staying at this point.

I open with 2 years without a state budget, and helping Rauner during those years.

It’s been said that those staying have Stockholm Syndrome… maybe if one of the kidnappers leaves, ones trying to ruin Illinois leaves, it will get better?

  18. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 9:44 am:

If you can’t pick up the phone and get Griffin to take your call… what exactly are you upset about with his angry, in-law uncle schtick leaving Illinois?

  19. - Six Degrees of Separation - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 9:44 am:

===the north central service metra line that runs through ohare and western lake county on its way to Antioch needs to start running on the weekends.===

Hmmm…I’m just hoping Metra can keep the routes it has. The new normal seems to have knocked down patronage permanently; we are well past peak COVID and still only 1/3 of ridership from 2019.

  20. - anoni - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 9:47 am:

Just scheduled my nearly-2-year-old’s first COVID vaccine shot for next week! Can’t wait.

  21. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 9:52 am:

So… Griffin leaving… that’s not great news if you’re speculating on Irvin’s chances on Tuesday?

Don’t forget a small generator and a long heavy duty extension cord to protect your freezer in case of a rolling blackout.

  23. - Friendly Bob Adams - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 10:01 am:

What’s up with Lucas Giolito?? He can’t pitch worth a darn lately. Dylan Cease isn’t doing great, either. Not good news for the White Sox…

… and tin foil for hats it appears?

  25. - DownSouth - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 10:06 am:

@DuPage - excellent point! We do have the necessary generator power to get us through. Also, I always make sure to can plenty of meat and fish so that it can be stored without refrigeration. Canned fish supply is a little thin s it’s time to get out there and get a boat load of carp ooops Copi and get things replenished. Just don’t like canning in this current heat wave!

  26. - Elmer Keith - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 10:33 am:

Just saw that SCOTUS knocked down the New York state concealed carry law. I don’t know all the deets, but will take a minute to curse the traitors in Brandon Phelps’ 2013 concealed carry bill who sold out to the police unions: Todd Vandermyde, Valinda Rowe, John Boch, and Richard Pearson. We could have had a great carry law in IL without these sellouts, and now the courts on our side.

  27. - Keyrock - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 10:41 am:

Waiting for your post on the Washington Post running the propaganda from the IPI. Lots of folks here would probably like the opportunity to vent their spleen at the Post for running that “opinion.”

  28. - thisjustinagain - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 12:08 pm:

Break in the heat near Chicago…Phew.

About time SCOTUS held “good cause” is NOT needed to carry firearms outside the home; this case and Heller firmly establish the right even in Illinois, which has a complicated system and requirements designed to delay and annoy the law-abiding wishing to exercise their right. Should be some interesting challenges coming now to Illinois laws with this ruling, including the lengthy time given local law enforcement to object to a CCL being issued, and perhaps the grounds to deny a CCL as well not meeting the “strict scrutiny” requirement.

  29. - hisgirlfriday - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 12:16 pm:

Who is “the Pritzker candidate” for the 16th Dem committeeman spot? There are two guys running and other than their mail pieces I have heard absolutely nothing about them.

  30. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 12:17 pm:

Even though I wasn’t going to this show anyway, this is all the more reason why I Never want to go back to “normal” after COVID. A Y Block concert has been postponed after band members tested positive.

The article also mentions that 8 of 24 cast members at a Legacy Theatre play in Springfield have tested positive, delaying a show’s opening for two weeks:

    https://www.sj-r.com/story/entertainment/music/2022/06/23/davina-and-vagabonds-springfield-show-moved-aug-3/7707003001/

  31. - Mason born - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 12:44 pm:

I’m sure this will draw fire from a few cranks, but we should probably give credit to Madigan and Cullerton that IL isn’t trying to redraft it’s CCW law on the fly. There were a lot of people who wanted to carbon copy a NY/CA May Issue scheme. What we have is far from perfect but it is better then that.

  32. - Demoralized - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 1:55 pm:

==why I Never want to go back to “normal” after COVID==

    Enjoy your basement.

  33. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 2:00 pm:

    ===Even though I wasn’t going to this show anyway===

Then why worry? It’s safer inside I suppose…

  34. - Just a guy - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 3:40 pm:

I can’t wait for next week so that I can get a break from the shtick that’s on TV every 30 seconds. So glad I still get BBC.

  35. - Demoralized - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 3:50 pm:

==and tin foil for hats it appears?==

In fairness, OW, where I live (Springfield) the local utility has warned residents that the possibility is real that rolling blackouts will be done this summer and have specifically identified July as a particularly high risk month. That being said, it was also indicated that the blackouts would likely only last 15 minutes.

  36. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 3:54 pm:

    - Demoralized -

Well, I don’t want to be unfair.

I’ll wait till October to ask about tin foil needed for rolling blackouts.

    Hydrate. Be well.

  37. - Just Sayin - Thursday, Jun 23, 22 @ 8:23 pm:

==A Y Block concert has been postponed after band members tested positive.==

I’m sure the Knights of Columbus big Thursday night drawing would have gotten a lot more attendance than this concert–or the rest of the Y block concert series this summer–anyway.
