Darren Bailey: “I will never, ever give up my AR-15 or any other gun — so you need to know that.”

“When someone shows up at my front door and expects me to turn in a gun or even so much as register a serial number, it will not happen.”

“I am the most pro-Second Amendment legislator in Springfield and gubernatorial candidate.”

“This is all about the right leadership doing the right thing and the gun laws, taking guns off the street — that’s not it.”

“The FOID Card system is simply to pilfer money from people’s pockets. It’s not working. The FOID Card’s not working and it needs to go.”

“I’m a lifelong NRA member. I’m a lifelong Illinois State Rifle Association member. I’ve been endorsed by those groups, too. So you have someone here that will certainly get rid of that FOID program.”

How do you not add his comments about moving on after the fourth of July shooting….. Dumb……

  2. - Arsenal - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 4:16 pm:

Pritzker’s polls must show that the state absolutely *hates* guns right now.

  3. - Socially DIstant Watcher - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 4:20 pm:

@Arsenal: Not sure about the “state” but the north suburbs, anyone within a few towns of Highland Park, yep, it’s a pretty safe bet that this ad will give second thoughts to anybody who would think of voting for Bailey right now.

  4. - 47th Ward - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 4:39 pm:

Nazgul, I think we can expect several sequels to this ad. This lays the groundwork, and the HP stuff will really hurt when that gets aired over and over. But I think it’s still too soon for that. This is the set up though.

  5. - Nilwood - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 4:39 pm:

It might cost him votes in the northern suburbs, but it will guarantee him votes in this neighborhood.

  6. - Newton - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 4:40 pm:

The multiple videos of Bailey speaking to the hard right will most certainly ensure a huge defeat. Look to see how fast the republicans down ballot publicly jump ship.

  7. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 4:42 pm:

Pritzker invested wisely in Bailey, as did the DGA.

    Money. Well. Spent.

Now let’s hope it doesn’t backfire to a great problem in the coming years.

  8. - Surly Dan - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 4:48 pm:

Wow, looks like the posh public life has padded a few extra pounds on the ol’ farmer. He was much leaner in his younger years.

  9. - Amalia - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 4:50 pm:

Grade A. Now start combining it with the comments from those groups he touts….the NRA and the ISRA. there’s lots of material. and they won’t like seeing it coming at them especially in light of the recent tragedy in Highland Park. comment from them, his comment proclaiming his allegiance to them.

  10. - The Ford Lawyer - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 4:51 pm:

All Pritzker ads should begin with Bailey opening his mouth, because whatever comes out is going to help Pritzker. Dunning-Krueger ‘22.

  11. - BW - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 4:59 pm:

OW… moderate Bill Brady carried 98 of the State’s 102 Counties… still lost in 2010

Bailey has to encourage Chicago area voters to sit out an election almost as much as he has to rally the downstate voters to turn out. I don’t see him moving that needle unless there are some “influence” contributions being made that aren’t being reported?

Unless JB is arrested for a major felony, I think re-election is a slam dunk.

  12. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 5:03 pm:

    ===…carried 98 of the State’s 102 Counties===

Counties don’t vote. This is ignorance. Voters vote.

  13. - Responsa - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 5:04 pm:

==Wow, looks like the posh public life has padded a few extra pounds on the ol’ farmer. ==

Yep, clearly any stage used for hosting a live gubernatorial debate this fall between these two will require reinforcement.

  14. - Jump - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 5:19 pm:

Well after the problems leaking out about highland park some would agree that foid isn’t working???

  15. - Socially DIstant Watcher - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 6:06 pm:

==Well after the problems leaking out about highland park some would agree that foid isn’t working??? ==

FOID isn’t working, so we should get rid of it.

Yeah, you go with that. How many north shore voters will look more favorably on “mend it, don’t end it?”

  16. - Big Dipper - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 6:21 pm:

==Wow, looks like the posh public life has padded a few extra pounds on the ol’ farmer==

The followers of Bailey and DeVore constantly comment on JB’s weight as if their candidates aren’t portly.

  17. - Elmer Keith - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 7:12 pm:

“I’m a lifelong Illinois State Rifle Association member.” If Bailey knew the real track record of Richard Pearson and the ISRA, he would not tout this association. The small town gun hicks from ISRA actively opposed concealed carry for twenty years, and sabotaged grassroots activist Valinda Rowe at every turn.

After the McDonald case cleared SCOTUS, Pearson then came to believe that concealed carry in Illinois was his idea all along.

  18. - Flapdoodle - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 7:33 pm:

==It might cost him votes in the northern suburbs, but it will guarantee him votes in this neighborhood.==

Could be wrong, but betting there will be more votes lost in northern suburbs than even exist in “this neighborhood.”

  19. - Glengarry - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 8:58 pm:

Gonna play he’s the bigger ogre again. Worked in 2010. A win is a win at the end of the day.

  20. - JS Mill - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 9:37 pm:

Bailey would be better off branding himself as “Bubba Bailey” and run for governor of ‘Bama.

The opposition to getting guns off the street will not help him. Neither will his new anti- law and order stance. But props for authenticity.

  21. - Roads Scholar - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 10:07 pm:

OW - what is the potential “great problem”? Aside from de facto secession.

  22. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 10:16 pm:

    - Roads Scholar -

For those left in the cult?

Irreversible Irrelevance, and sideshow antics unhelpful to Illinois governing… for openers.

At this point of the film, I’m not at all worried about the ILGOP, but terribly worried for the state

  23. - In published - Wednesday, Jul 13, 22 @ 10:24 pm:

    7000 R votes to 600 D votes. Effingham County …approximately
    Scary.

  24. - Heather - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 7:22 am:

Pushing for policies that allow criminals to outgun law enforcement is horrible. We need Republicans to get tough on crime, not enable it.

  25. - Cardinal Fan - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 8:27 am:

Bailey’s view on the FOID card issue are shared by a very large number of voters in Illinois. I don’t see as this is a major issue that JB should be focusing on. If anything, it helps out Bailey.

  26. - Blue Dog - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 9:06 am:

get rid of the FOID process.

  27. - Cool Papa Bell - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 2:50 pm:

    ===…carried 98 of the State’s 102 Counties===

    So?

By my count 78 counties in Illinois have populations smaller than a single ward in Chicago.

The 11 smallest counites in Illinois combine for about the same population as one ward in Chicago.

  28. - 47th and Lake Park - Thursday, Jul 14, 22 @ 4:55 pm:

Bailey is useful as an example of what is going on in many states around the country. People like Bailey (ok, no one’s “like” Bailey, but folks with his sorts of policy attitudes) are winning there, so listen up. This is some scary stuff. I’m looking at you, FL.
