We have a Googlewhack… Kinda

Wednesday, Oct 19, 2022 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Center Square

Pritzker criticized Bailey for not taking media questions.

“This is the second debate in a row that I’ve shown up to answer your questions and the second time that Darren Bailey has not shown up,” Pritzker told media after the debate. “Like with so many other things, Darren Bailey is all hat and no cattle.” […]

“I can’t fathom what the next four years are going to be like under J.B. Pritzker,” Bailey said. “Every state agency is an absolute failure.”

Bailey said education has been decimated, crime is increasing and businesses and people are moving out.

“All cattle and no show, that’s J.B. Pritzker,” Bailey said.

I Googled the exact phrase “All cattle and no show” and got only one result. From Wikipedia

A Googlewhack is a contest to find a Google Search query that returns a single result. A Googlewhack must consist of two words found in a dictionary and is only considered legitimate if both of the search terms appear in the result. The term googlewhack, coined by Gary Stock, first appeared on the web at Blinking on 8 January 2002.

OK, so it isn’t technically a Googlewhack, but nobody has ever used that phrase before that I can see.

Wouldn’t “all cattle and no show” be a good thing?

  2. - H-W - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:35 pm:

All hat and no cattle does show up.

  3. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:37 pm:

===All hat and no cattle does show up. ===

Well, yeah. It’s an old saying used millions of times. Did you hit your head or something? lol

  4. - Furtive Look - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:39 pm:

Darren once heard the term at the Clay County Fair. He didn’t understand it then, either.

  5. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:41 pm:

    We have a Googlewhack?

Hopefully some strong Penicillin will clear that up.

    Oh.

    Sorry.

This is like a Yogi Berra-ism, except it was used by a farmer who allegedly understands all that century old farmin’ stuff that us city slickers couldn’t make hair nor hyde sumptin’-sumptin’

  6. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:41 pm:

    ===be a good thing? ===

    I think?

    But who the heck knows.

  8. - Soccermom - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:43 pm:

Not sure what that would mean. Best guess is, he got confused when one of his consultants tries to folksy him up?

  9. - City Zen - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:44 pm:

Sounds like Darren went spelunking for misery.

  10. - Dotnonymous - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:44 pm:

Bailey is obviously suffering from Googlewhack…for sure…he won’t even take the fork in the road?

  11. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:45 pm:

I dunno, I’d ask that guy with the hat whose sole job at debates is to say Bailey don’t need no spin.

Seems like a logical next step.

  12. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:45 pm:

    ===be a good thing? ===

I used to show cattle when I was in 4-H, and I used to own only one steer at a time back then. So I was even-Steven on the cattle vs. show thing.

We raised the steers to get to the show, and if we did well, it paid off during the county fair auction. So, the show was central to everything…

OK, this is clearly a mental rabbit hole and I need to extricate myself now before I get lost. lol

  13. - Dotnonymous - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:46 pm:

Bailey is all corn and no wheat.

  14. - God's Country - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:47 pm:

“All cattle and no show” is a very popular phrase amongst anonymous Rabbis.

  15. - Rudy’s teeth - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:47 pm:

Is Darren Bailey dipping his toe in the idiom pool?

  16. - Dance Band on the Titanic - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:47 pm:

Is Bailey still angry that Pritzker outbid him for the champion steer at the State Fair?

  17. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:47 pm:

“Pritzker is a work cattle, not a show cattle”

If you read that real quick it kinda …

    Yeah, I got nothing.

  18. - thomas Paine - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:48 pm:

it’s a Yogism, which is an advanced Spoonerism.

Darren Bailey is pretty good at delivering memorized lines, but when he flubs his lines it is noticeable, and when he has to go off script it is almost always embarrassing.

  19. - Anon221 - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:48 pm:

Bailey’s “Mad Libs” got away from him ;)

  20. - Baloneymous - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:48 pm:

Chumbolone and all cattle and no show, two new words or sayings in less than 24 hours?

  21. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:51 pm:

Pritzker is “all funnel, and no cake”?

Pritzker is “all shoe, and no horse”?

I think it’s in the delivery that make all these work

  22. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:52 pm:

===I think it’s in the delivery that make all these work ===

I guess you had to be there

    Willy, yours actually make sense.

  25. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:57 pm:

===I guess you had to be there===

    It’s my bad, on me.

It’s a interesting bit, this Googlewhack.

    Game within the game.

  26. - H-W - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:57 pm:

= Did you hit your head or something? =

No, just a little slow on the uptake today.

  27. - Kayak - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 3:58 pm:

“I can’t fathom what the next four years are going to be like under J.B. Pritzker,” Bailey said.

“Governor Pritzker, I’m going to be honest with you – you look awesome,” Bailey said.

Larry Handlin even won a national championship in cattle judging https://videttearchive.ilstu.edu/?a=d&d=vid19600224-01.1.5&srpos=9&e=——-en-20–1–txt-txIN-handlin——

Obviously, not me, but the parental unit.

No idea what Bailey is talking about. I’m sure the elder LH would have some harsh words for him though.

  29. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 4:09 pm:

    ===make sense===

    Woah, wait.

My whole schtick is that what I write makes little sense, and now I try to make no sense… it makes sense?

This day has not gone well at all.

I may need cheesecake at the Hancock to feel better.

  30. - New Day - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 4:12 pm:

Pretty funny that the yankee from Chicago knows the expression “all hat and no cattle” better than the guy who sounds like he just got off the set of Hee Haw.

  31. - JS Mill - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 4:13 pm:

=Bailey said education has been decimated, crime is increasing and businesses and people are moving out.=

I just don’t even know what to say anymore when bailey talks about education. I do not agree some a number of initiatives brought forward during Pritzker’s term, but there is no metric in which schools are worse off under Pritzker. Zero. None.
Covid not Pritzker, impacted achievement,in case you felt the need to go there.

  32. - H-W - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 4:13 pm:

= This day has not gone well at all. =

Blame Rich, for making us start the day by saying something nice about each other.

(I am still waiting for LP to accept my gracious comment).

  33. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 4:14 pm:

    ===Blame Rich===

    Nope. That’s on Isabel.

Y’all need to start learning to check the bylines. New deputy sheriff in town.

  34. - Henry Francis - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 4:15 pm:

    Cut the guy some slack.

He was probably thinking about all the no show jobs he was going to give to his undereducated friends once he is elected Governor.

  35. - JS Mill - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 4:18 pm:

    =New deputy sheriff in town.=

Lol. And it is always good to have a deputy to throw under the bus :-)

Bailey is all custard and no donut.

  36. - Rudy’s teeth - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 4:20 pm:

The term education and Darren Bailey should never appear in the same sentence.

  37. - ArchPundit - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 4:23 pm:

===Lol. And it is always good to have a deputy to throw under the bus :-)

For making us be nice to each other…

  38. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 4:24 pm:

===have a deputy to throw under the bus===

Shh. She doesn’t know about that inevitability yet.

  39. - Alice Childress - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 4:29 pm:

Yogi Berra said things that were so obvious or silly, you scratched your head and gave that high pitched dog head tilt. “It’s deja-vu all over again” or “when you see a fork in the road, take.” You laughed. And we laugh at Bailey for a different reason. He says things that are out of touch with anything or says things like a child who doesn’t know what to say when presented with a situation where ya gotta give a legitimate response; “I know you are but what am I?”

Darren Bailey. Man, that dude is is not fit for leadership in politics.

  40. - Don't Bloc Me In - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 4:36 pm:

==The term education and Darren Bailey should never appear in the same sentence.==

True, but they could appear on the same poster, because every poster needs its child.

  41. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 4:37 pm:

===Shh. She doesn’t know about that inevitability yet.===

Maybe she’s not reading the comments here. Just fade away…

  42. - DuPage Saint - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 4:46 pm:

Would bass ackward get me baned?

  43. - Amalia - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 4:56 pm:

so Bailey teaches his cattle to dance and sing?

  44. - Tony DeKalb - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 5:18 pm:

Bailey knows the truth about cattle. He’s a FARMER. From SOUTHERN Illinois. Yeah. Yeah.

  45. - Lurker - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 5:59 pm:

The Googlewhack is ruined. Now the search has 5 results including Center Square and CapitolFax.

    Bailey ruins everything(banned punctuation)

  46. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 6:04 pm:

    ===Maybe she’s not reading the comments===

    It’s one of her duties.

  47. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 6:08 pm:

    ===It’s one of her duties.===

That might not be helpful in this instance. :)

Isabel is doing restaurant quality work, that is no snark.

  48. - NoMoreMC - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 6:40 pm:

Did he blend the classic hot rodder idiom “all show, no go” and “all hat, no cattle”? Maybe it’s an Albany expression, like “steamed hams.” Darren Bailey with an idiom is like a mule with a spinning wheel. No one knows where he got it and danged if he knows how to use it.

  49. - ArchPundit - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 8:57 pm:

    —-It’s one of her duties.

See, this is where Rich throws Isabel under the bus. Now Rich can blame moderation on her.

  50. - Skeptic - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 9:09 pm:

Maybe it’s akin to “All dressed up and no place to go”? Dunno, my folksy decoder ring broke during the Rauner administration.

  51. - Candy Dogood - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 10:09 pm:

===Every state agency is an absolute failure.===

If we go ahead and accept Bailey’s claim as true, it’s really telling that the guy who he says is absolutely failing has a double digit lead on him in the polls.

On Tuesday, November 8th I am planning on voting for JB Pritzker (if not a couple of weeks before then) because even though DCFS is short hundreds of child safety investigators and his agency director has been repeatedly found in contempt, Darren Bailey seems to think this problem can be improved by cutting budgets and forcing women to carry unwanted pregnancies to term.

  52. - Blue Dog - Wednesday, Oct 19, 22 @ 10:33 pm:

Time out. I just learned how to google and now I gotta googlewhack. No fair.

  53. - XonXoff - Thursday, Oct 20, 22 @ 7:59 am:

I’ma chalk it up to neuron misfires — then move on and celebrate.
