Signs don’t vote, but…

Tuesday, Oct 25, 2022 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Popping up in suburban Cook…

* And this was spotted along 25th Street and the Eisenhower Expressway…

Considering how fast Sen. Bailey is running away from Trump these days, you gotta wonder if the Democrats put that one up. /s

Are you seeing any interesting signage these days?

    The *only* way I will address this post with a comment is as exactly as Rich prefaced;

    “Signs don’t vote, but…”

I have seen, on actual home lawns, sign(s) for Dem candidates paired with. “No on Amendment 1” signs.

I wanted to get a picture, but I’m of the belief signs don’t vote too and plum ignored the opportunity to share.

    They are odd pairings.

  2. - Blue to the Bone - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 9:53 am:

An “Education not Indoctrination” sign popped up close to my house yesterday.

I wasn’t able to get close enough to see who paid for it but I can guess it wasn’t the IEA.

  3. - The Real Downstate - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 9:54 am:

Seeing the occasional Dan Brady or Joe Aiello sign mixed in with Dem signs in Springfield. Have to say, it feels like there are way more Dem signs in Springfield this year than in previous years. Lots of Turner signage in particular.

  4. - clec dcn - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:00 am:

I ride my bike all around rural Illinois and in the corn and bean country I see some real negative Pritzker signs. Apparently, farmers don’t like him to well.

  5. - Treefiddy - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:03 am:

Drove to the pumpkin patch outside of Arthur this weekend, saw a few houses with their old “Trump” signs still out, but with duct tape over “Pence.” Guess they’re still upset he didn’t overturn the election or something.

  6. - Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:05 am:

Not that Orland Park is a major Keith Pekau bastion (he only won re-election by 2% last year), but the fair number of Casten signs I’ve seen in yards has to cheese off the Mayor.

  7. - someonehastosayit - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:06 am:

I drove by a yard with Republican candidates along side a “Vote yes for workers” sign.
The amendment 1 results might be the most interesting race on election night.

  8. - Anyone Remember - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:11 am:

    The Real Downstate

The most prominent Brady signs in Springfield are 11th north of Cook (former DCFS location, onetime homeless proposed homeless center). Also Sandy Hamilton signs (one X’d out).

  9. - jimbo - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:12 am:

The guy with no Russian heritage, but who has nonetheless put up a Russian flag on his house has put up Bailey and Lauf signs. So there’s that.

  10. - Give Me A Break - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:14 am:

Was in the Marion area last week. Was surprised I didn’t see more Bailey signs then I did. A few JB but mostly Bailey signs but not near the number I expected to see given the area.

  11. - Suburban Dad - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:19 am:

I am a no on Amendment 1, but yes for Pritzker. Basically, so many union people voted for Trump/GOP and he / they are vocally pro-right to work. I come from a 3 generation union family. So no unions for me.

  12. - AcademicUnionStateEmployee - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:22 am:

Probably not surprising but I saw another example of One of these Things is Not Like the Other signage last weekend. A house in Chatham had signs for Budzinski, Doris Turner, Gov. Pritzker, and Dan Brady. The owners must not be Alexi fans.

  13. - cover - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:23 am:

I actually saw a couple farmhouses with multiple Dem yard signs on Saturday, definitely not what I was expecting. The real world includes a variety of opinions even in “solid” blue and red areas.

  14. - Back to the Future - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:30 am:

That “Grab Them by the Ballot” is really the best sign I have seen in this election.
Gotta get one of those. Anybody know where to get one?

  15. - froganon - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:43 am:

Love that “Grab Them by the Ballot ” sign. Ditto for Back To The Future, where can we get some?

  16. - Anon221 - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:46 am:

Went by a large gravel pit this weekend that had a very large “Vote YES” for the workers’ rights amendment. The “YES”, though, had a red slash circle through it on both sides of the side. Not sure if the company did this or someone else added the “graphic”.

  17. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:47 am:

===Anybody know where to get one? ===

    Google is your friend https://www.etsy.com/listing/1244774072/grab-them-by-the-ballot-sign-pro-roe

  18. - JoanP - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 11:00 am:

= The real world includes a variety of opinions even in “solid” blue and red areas. =

Indeed. There’s a building on the Oak Park side of Austin with Devore and Bailey signs in the yard. That was a bit unexpected.

  19. - Walker - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 11:00 am:

Some of our local Trumpers have taken to wearing big white “Z”s on black tshirts. Crazy times

  20. - Donnie Elgin - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 11:01 am:

Drove through St Charles last Thursday - dozens of folks on both sides of 64 @ Fox River bridge holding up Vote No signs.

  21. - Roadrager - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 11:02 am:

Someone a few blocks away from us put up a sign a couple months ago with a diatribe against one of the local public library board members, featuring the word “GROOMERS” with a “no” symbol through it. After a couple of weeks, that got replaced by a standard Bailey-Trussel sign, because that’s the standard path in this day and age.

  22. - up2now - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 11:03 am:

If Pritzker sucked as much as the signage here in Effingham County suggests, the vacuum would be enough to make the Mississippi River run backwards.

  23. - Occasional Quipper - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 11:11 am:

== Seeing the occasional Dan Brady or Joe Aiello sign mixed in with Dem signs in Springfield. ==

I’m seeing the same thing. I have a die-hard Dem neighbor who has never had a Republican sign in his yard, but this year he has a Dan Brady sign next to his other Dem signs. I think Dan Brady is going to do better than the polls might suggest.

  24. - Padraig - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 11:11 am:

Several dozen of the punish Pritzker signs showed up along Vincennes Ave in Chicago on Monday morning. Most on RR property. They were gone today. After noticing them last week in the ROW in predominantly Black neighborhoods I couldn’t help but notice the JB signs on lawns throughout the neighborhood.

  25. - Steve Rogers - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 11:14 am:

I saw a Demmer sign in Pana. I couldn’t remember what office he is running for.

Once I found out, I thought I’d see a lot more of those signs considering Frerichs could have been vulnerable with a more visible and viable R candidate.

  26. - hisgirlfriday - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 11:22 am:

Saw a couple “Dems for Dan” signs for Brady in McLean County.

  27. - Back to the Future - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 11:27 am:

    Thanks for the sign info.
My very own “Grab Them by the Ballot” sign is on the way.

  28. - Arsenal - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 11:33 am:

==Have to say, it feels like there are way more Dem signs in Springfield this year than in previous years. Lots of Turner signage in particular.==

Turner, of course, has been around Springfield politics for several centuries now.

But more generally, Rauner really dug a hole for Springfield Republicans. It was a mask-off moment for a ton of state workers.

  29. - Vote Quimby - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 11:39 am:

Down here in Baileyburg, many of the DB signs are faded because they’ve been up since before the primary. I did notice in the last week or two more of the Amendment 1 signs… both for and against.

  30. - SKI - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 11:45 am:

There’s an individual on West Lawrence in Springfield near Pasfield who has several JB signs crossed out and a sheet of plywood with a painted “Stop Grooming Children” sign.

  31. - The Velvet Frog - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 12:01 pm:

The most unusual sign I’ve seen around is “I don’t Co-Parent with the Government”. I’m dying to know if they home school.

  32. - Dupage mom - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 12:20 pm:

Bright yellow” He hurt kids” signs are all over our neighborhood in Naperville, with a picture of JB Pritxker. Bright yellow.

  33. - West Side the Best Side - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 12:27 pm:

Not a campaign sign, but one conveying a message. A house in LaGrange Park is decorated for Halloween with tombstones, one of which reads “I did my own research.”

  34. - Oldtimer - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 12:28 pm:

There are still two Democratic supporting farmers in Christian County, one as you get near Taylorville and the other as you head toward Pana.

Signs don’t vote but the Turner campaigned has overperformed in my area, which is 2/3 Republican, while Hamilton has underperformed.

  35. - Dotnonymous - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 12:48 pm:

    @Devore

    Q. Would you care to take this public opportunity to retract your derogatory “Window Lickers” comment (directed) at developmentally disadvantaged children…or not?

  36. - ;) - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 12:48 pm:

Ya, saw some guys putting up Pritzker signs and the Bailey/Trump signs all around Maywood/Forest Park/Oak Park area last night. They’re all around the Maywood courthouse/expressway exit area.

  37. - XonXoff - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 12:51 pm:

== A house in LaGrange Park is decorated for Halloween with tombstones, one of which reads “I did my own research.” ==

I’d be tempted to take THEM candy for that one.

  38. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 12:56 pm:

the colors on the pro roe sign are confusing. blue is the color that is pro roe but you would not really know that by the sign.

  39. - Arsenal - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 1:08 pm:

My favorite sign of the cycle is Patrick Joyce’s re-election signs:

    “Re-Joyce”

  40. - AcademicUnionStateEmployee - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 1:09 pm:

==the colors on the pro roe sign are confusing. blue is the color that is pro roe but you would not really know that by the sign.==

Also the “Pro Roe” lettering looks like it is in a typeface that was indeed common in 1973.

  41. - Concerned Observer - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 1:12 pm:

Guy next door has “CAPITALISM OR SOCIALISM CHOOSE WISELY” in his window.

Which is weird to have up for Halloween, right? Trick or treating is a prime example of socialism….

  42. - M Python - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 2:28 pm:

Amendment 1 4’X4’ sign with the “NO” torn out of the center of it. Along Peace Rd in DeKalb

  43. - Anyone Remember - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 7:04 pm:

===Guy next door has “CAPITALISM OR SOCIALISM CHOOSE WISELY” in his window.===

Since the Austrian School of Economics says the US has been “Socialist” since Calvin Coolidge signed The Flood Control Act of 1928, perhaps we can ask your neighbor how he defines “Socialism” ??

  44. - Anyone Remember - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 8:04 pm:

===I think Dan Brady is going to do better than the polls might suggest.===

IF Brady wins, based upon his past history, his hires are IG worthy …

  45. - Tall Glass - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:00 pm:

All those Brady/(JB,Mendoza, D-IL) lawn ornaments are from partisans of the only statewide Democrat primary loser. If polls or demeanor are any indication, it is the Treasurer’s race that has inspired most of the ticket splitting, which makes the the incumbent sweat.

  46. - Sceptic - Tuesday, Oct 25, 22 @ 10:13 pm:

==IF Brady wins, based upon his past history, his hires are IG worthy …==

Wait. Do you mean Dan Brady’s hires will get investigated, or that they pass muster?
