Best wishes to retiring Secretary of State Jesse White

Thursday, Dec 1, 2022 - Posted by Isabel Miller

* Yesterday, I poked my head into Secretary of State Jesse White’s office and it looks like it will be getting a fresh coat of paint before Alexi Giannoulias moves in. White’s staff is removing dozens of awards from the walls that White himself put up. Thanks to spokesperson Henry Haupt for these photos of some of Secretary White’s walls before they took everything down…

    * Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White Spreads the Warmth With Coat and Sock Giveaway for Those in Need: On Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White will host his final public appearance with a coat and sock giveaway to those in need at the Jesse White Community Center at 11 a.m. Chicago-based entrepreneur Ann Jhin, CEO of Jinny Beauty Supply, the largest multicultural and ethnic beauty supply distributor in the world, graciously purchased and donated all 500 coats and 200 Bombas socks for this giveaway to the local community. Following the giveaway, there will be a performance by the internationally renowned Jesse White Tumblers, who have been helping impact the lives of thousands of young Illinoisans for more than 60 years.

    * WGEM | Retiring Secretary of State Jesse White reflects on his legacy: “We have put in place a process by which individuals can come to the Secretary of State’s office and be treated in a highly respectful manner and receive the documents that they’re seeking in a timely manner,” White said. White noted that a lot has changed in driver services facilities since he first took over the Secretary of State’s office. People can now avoid long lines at the DMV by setting up appointments over the phone or online. White said he is glad that his offices have the policy to allow seniors, disabled people, pregnant people and military veterans to get to the front of the line for services.

    * WLS | Alexi Giannoulias: “I am Thrilled for What We Are Going to do in the Secretary of State’s Office”: Alexi Giannoulias, IL Secretary of State Elect, joins the John Howell show. They discuss Giannoulias’ win, the state of politics today, and plans for the Secretary of State office. Giannoulias also speaks on the launch of the Rev Up Illinois website, a place for IL residents to give their input as to what they want to see in our state.

Happy Retirement Jesse. You have been a stellar person, community leader, public servant, politician and Cubs supporter. I’m honored to have worked with you and to know you.

  2. - Give Me A Break - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 1:27 pm:

Will be long time, if ever we see another Constitutional serve as long as Jesse and leave office without being forced to.

An Illinois political legend. Best of luck Secretary.

When I came down with my kids for Gifted Education days, a stop by Sec. White’s office was always a stop we made. Coolest office in the Capitol, and his staff couldn’t have been nicer.

Will say the time my daughter got us invited into Rod’s office did make the Christmas card that year (the year he got arrested).

  4. - Donnie Elgin - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 1:33 pm:

Good Luck Jesse. I hope you keep bringing the Tumblers out for Parades, see you at Spavone’s in Bloomingdale.

  5. - Anyone Remember - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 1:38 pm:

For all the good he did, what I’ll remember longest is the Jesse White Tumblers performing at 2nd and Capitol during session. The Tumblers were, and are, amazing.

  6. - Dirty Red - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 1:41 pm:

A remarkable human being. Thank you, sir, for your many services.

    To Secretary White…

I can’t recall anyone in government or the craft of governing and politics that has left me speechless to their uniqueness… than one Jesse White

    Here’s the thing;

White never needed to smooze, cajole, White needed not to be something he’s wasn’t, White only needed to be authentic.

    You can’t quantify authenticity.

In all things… people, product, idea… the most authentic to its own “circle”, the authentic will always stand alone.

    We all like… authentic

    It’s authentic.

There’s never a doubt to authentic, comparables realize they can’t compete… with authentic. Authentic only exists in its own orbit, and truth be told, you can’t *be* in that orbit, you can only orbit… the authentic itself. It’s a different plane, it’s a different level or stratosphere where authentic breathes… and all it does is take our breath away.

    Authentic.

You know why you can’t create, emulate, copy Jesse White? Because Jesse White had nothing to prove and others have everything Jesse White is and was… Authentic.

What’s not to like? White is warmly distant, like a hero… and cooly strong, lifting up everything around him. Authentic

White is fun, but not cheaply funny. White is perfect for all that not makes him a mere politician.

There will be no one like him… because “like a Picasso that’s a geometric proof… that has a heart of gold”… those type of ingredients aren’t found anymore. Authentic.

    I’ll miss you, Secretary White.

You leave the stage as one…

    …who never acted.

You are authentic. Bless you, and thank you.

    Oswego Willy

I still remember visiting him in third grade and he had an entire desk drawer filled with candy.

  9. - Dotnonymous - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 2:15 pm:

    Jesse White leaves office…honestly…and uniquely.

  10. - Justin - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 2:27 pm:

Congrats to your service as Secretary of State, Jesse White.

  11. - Dotnonymous - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 2:36 pm:

Alexi Giannoulias might ask himself, “What would Jesse do?” and never be far from the mark.

  12. - JoanP - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 2:54 pm:

His picture should be next to the definition of “public servant” in the dictionary. He’s a textbook example how to run an office for the people you were elected to serve. There’s a reason he’s been a top vote-getter all these years.

  13. - DuPage - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 3:31 pm:

Among the most devoted public official ever. Many long years of service instead of retiring. A strong example of the best of the best.

  14. - btowntruth from forgottonia - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 3:40 pm:

    “Cobs supporter”?
I knew there was something about him that wasn’t right…….
    LOL……kidding.

Seriously though,I hope Jesse White has a long and healthy retirement.
He is a good person and has been a good Secretary Of State.

  15. - Loop Lady - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 3:49 pm:

Health and happiness to Sec White.

An example of a fine public servant.

  16. - Josh Evans - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 3:58 pm:

For several years our future leadership initiative class got tours of this office. The recognitions on the wall, the history, always a favorite part of the statehouse tour.

  17. - FormerParatrooper - Thursday, Dec 1, 22 @ 8:21 pm:

When you think of Jesse White his life long record of service comes to mind. What he did as SOS can be seen, a smoother system than it was and always a work in progress for the better. His Jesse White Tumbling team has helped thousands of children, giving the something to be a part of that was positive and healthy.

I thank you Jesse for setting a standard that shows how a politician, and a man should aspire too. Feet and Knees old soldier.

  18. - Midwesterner - Friday, Dec 2, 22 @ 2:19 pm:

Absolutely a tremendous public servant as well as a truly great individual. One other Jesse White achievement I would like to mention–He has now motivated a post by Oswego Willy that I agree with wholeheeartedly.
