Durbin needs to figure out a solution to the Feinstein problem soon.
As judiciary chairman, his reverence for the archaic blue slips practice for judicial confirmations was already way out of touch with the partisan reality of Washington and the major rights at stake with every single federal judge confirmed.
Now with coddling Feinstein in not demanding she resign they not only can’t confirm judges, they can’t do things like issue subpoenas to figure out what is going on with Clarence Thomas’s finances.
Seeing all this play out makes me hope this is Durbin’s last term so he doesn’t overstay his welcome to the detriment of the country the way Feinstein has.

If he keeps this up, he may not have a choice. This is the kind of behavior that leads to primaries.
Durbin wanted to be the Democratic Party leader in the Senate. Act like it now to move along on your committee. Tell Feinstein she has to resign. And give Newsom the easy replacement solution…Barbara Boxer. Keeps the appointment out of the hands of those gunning for the seat and replaces Feinstein with someone who has been there before and has a profile like Feinstein. Step up, Sen. Durbin.
Chicago Tribune sports are the worst. Huge front page section story on the terrible first Sox game yesterday, including a large photo of Lynn. and NOTHING about the Giolito masterpiece and an eventual one hit win for the pitching staff. Nothing. the second game finished before 9 pm. Now I was once told that the subscriber base of the Tribune deeply favored the Cubs. I guess that means facts on sports action don’t really matter to the paper.

He’s got a lot to figure out. His touch back home, even downstate, has gotten a lot less deft. The Vallas endorsement in particular seems to have blown up in his face.

At the height of his power, Ald. Ed Burke joked that there were three ways for members of the Chicago City Council to leave.
The ballot box. The pine box. The jury box.

As far as I know, they’d still need unanimous consent to replace her on the committee. Let’s move along to Illinois issues, please.

Yes, he does. Maybe stick to trying to finally get things done in DC instead of all the extra curricular stuff. Harry Reid he ain’t.

Sometimes I guess people need to find out for themselves.
The DPI debacle had no ending where Durbin became the “Don”, now in DC Durbin is feckless to his own calls.
I think now Durbin merely likes the idea he’s important, the work to importance means heavy lifts he can’t make.

Backing Vallas was Durbin’s nail.

Interesting timeline re “independent” pollster M3, which was paid by Vallas and whose owner’s PAC also supported Vallas.
