  1. - Sox Fan - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:08 am:

That we live in a hellhole

  2. - Torco Sign - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:12 am:

A boss in DC who was from NYC mistakenly said I was from Indiana. I laughed a bit and said it was Illinois, not Indiana. He was as serious as possible when saying, “Same thing.”

  3. - The Truth - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:13 am:

Back on January 2, 2023, the entire state would turn into “The Purge.”

  4. - Arguenda - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:13 am:

Danville’s passage of a useless abortion ‘ban’ which the county board was told flies in the face of everything legal but still enacted - cost to the city in trying to defend this ordinance will probably be pretty hefty and *there really is no legal question*. That’s not just dumb, it lends credence to Cheney’s claim that we are electing bozos.

  5. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:15 am:

“To be honest, Chicago *is* Detroit, it’s just too proud to admit it”

    - Michigan family member.

  6. - Anyone Remember - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:16 am:

    As an immigrant …

    Downstate supports Chicago.

  7. - Jerry - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:19 am:

We call it “soda” and not ‘pop”.

Never put ketchup on a hot dog.

    Alewives are delicious.

  8. - historic66 - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:21 am:

I’m completely flabbergasted at the people who claim all the money for roads is sent to IDOT district 1, and that no road work is being accomplished south of I-80.

  9. - Homebody - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:26 am:

No one wants to be in Chicago (as I watch luxury condos and apartments sprouting up like dandelions).

Or why doesn’t anyone in the black community talk about stopping crime? (as I watch national talking heads completely and systematically ignore local efforts in the south and west sides of Chicago)

  10. - Bruce( no not him) - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:27 am:

    Chiraq

  11. - Sox Fan - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:30 am:

That downstate Illinois sends all its tax money to Chicago

  12. - 47th Ward - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:31 am:

Chicago gets all of the money from Springfield and the rest of Illinois would be thriving if it could just get rid of Chicago.

  13. - Trap - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:33 am:

Darren Bailey’s Facebook page has so many every day it is impossible to pick just one.

  14. - Suburbanon - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:33 am:

    Where is Lincoln County?

  15. - Almost the Weekend - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:37 am:

CPS steals money from Jackson County to fund their operations.

  16. - Victor Kingston - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:38 am:

That southern Illinois would do anything but collapse under its own weight if it broke off from Chicagoland.

  17. - Benjamin - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:39 am:

    These are gold.

  18. - Stormsw7706 - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:39 am:

That Chicago is robbing downstate of all its tax money

  19. - Jerry - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:40 am:

    Most recently: “property tax fairness”

  20. - JS Mill - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:44 am:

There is a mass Cody’s out of Illinois, everyone is leaving et al. Meanwhile, housing prices and sales are still strong.

  21. - Pot calling kettle - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:48 am:

==Downstate supports Chicago, Chicago is robbing downstate of all its tax money, downstate Illinois sends all its tax money to Chicago, etc==

So consistent and so opposite of reality.

  22. - Occasional Quipper - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:50 am:

That all down-state Republicans are right-wing extremists.

  23. - Soccermom - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:54 am:

When I worked at OMB, somebody called to complain about the taxes being taken out of his paycheck. He was talking about FICA and Social Security. I said, “Sir, those are federal, not state.” He sputtered, “It’s all the government, isn’t it?” and hung up.

  24. - Give Us Barabbas - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:55 am:

That unions are dragging down the state economy.

  25. - Amalia - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:55 am:

that it is next to an ocean.

  26. - Space Cowboy - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 9:58 am:

Maybe this is not exactly the intent of the post, but the most ignorant thing I heard while in the game was a retiring legislator (who will remain unamed) comment in his last floor speech something to the effect of “you all need to repent to God for not passing my bills”.

  27. - JoanP - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 10:03 am:

    @ Amalia,

Many years ago, a very intelligent college classmate of mine(Phi Beta Kappa, all sorts of fellowships) visited me here. As we drove along Lake Shore Drive, she asked me, “what ocean is that?”. Being from Connecticut, her idea of a lake was something you could see across, canoe across, maybe walk around.

  28. - Back to the Future - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 10:05 am:

All these federal court convictions will put an end to corruption in Illinois (feel free to substitute Chicago or Springfield).

  29. - MFG - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 10:05 am:

Soybeans and cornfields vote apparently. Always enjoy seeing the maps showing how red the state is.

This just in: Counties vote as well.

  30. - Homebody - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 10:06 am:

    @ JoanP,

When I was first moving to Chicago from the east coast, I was apartment hunting in July. It was 90 degrees out, and I was driving a rental car down lake shore drive past North Avenue beach, which was packed with volleyball players. All I could think was that Chicago seemed more like I imagined LA or Miami to be. I can’t blame your classmate.

  31. - Amalia - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 10:09 am:

@Joan P. don’t you just love/laugh at the intelligently ignorant?

  32. - Amalia - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 10:10 am:

@Homebody, in the midst of all these nutty claims about Illinois you have described the best place in Chicago. It truly does look like Miami or LA and every time I drive past, even in winter, I feel lucky.

  33. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 10:14 am:

    ===That all down-state Republicans are right-wing extremists.===

    … they only elect them.

    I kid, I kid.

  34. - Grandson of Man - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 10:17 am:

Seconding “Illinois is a hellhole.” Major building is booming in downtown Chicago, with skyscraper type buildings going up. But always look at the source, the professional doom peddlers do quite well here.

  35. - ChrisB - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 10:20 am:

As a former Hill staffer, the Senate gets this phone call ALL the time:

“I don’t know which half the State the Senator represents…” or “…I don’t think I’m in their district though.”

“Sir, the Senator represents the entire state. And you have two of them.”

  36. - Kayak - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 10:34 am:

JB Pritzker stays up at night trying to dream up new abortion laws

  37. - levivotedforjudy - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 10:42 am:

JB’s people lied about Bailey’s views when they used clips from Bailey ads.

  38. - DTownResident - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 10:44 am:

So many that could be listed…I will go with any news/ proposals from Profit and the IPI

  39. - ste_with a v_en - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 10:45 am:

That we are not in the middle of everything.

  40. - Jocko - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 10:47 am:

The tollways should have been paid off by now.

  41. - JS Mill - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 10:51 am:

=All these federal court convictions will put an end to corruption in Illinois (feel free to substitute Chicago or Springfield).=

You can add just about any small town in rural Illinois to your list. Dixon comes to mind immediately.

    @Jocko +1, well played.

  42. - jimbo - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 10:51 am:

    That we have a DMV

  43. - Marine Life - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 11:07 am:

  44. - Stuck in Celliniland - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 12:11 pm:

That the Bears and Cubs are the best run organizations in professional sports.

That Aaron Rodgers owns the Bears (wait, he already said that).

  45. - Suburban Mom - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 12:27 pm:

===Or why doesn’t anyone in the black community talk about stopping crime? (as I watch national talking heads completely and systematically ignore local efforts in the south and west sides of Chicago)===

Love it when people tell on themselves about not reading or watching any Black media.

  46. - Frida's boss - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 12:33 pm:

Illinois would be fully Republican if they didn’t add voters from the cemetery.
    Chicago Democrats stuff ballot boxes.
Michael Jordan was overrated- Lebron fan from Ohio
Deep dish pizza sucks and doesn’t actually count as pizza- New Yorker

  47. - Proud Papa Bear - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 12:43 pm:

Nobody’s coming to Illinois. Our taxes are too high.

Said by an LGBTQ person in-among stories in newspapers, TV, and online journalism about how LGBTQ people and/or their parents are fleeing to Illinois.

  48. - An idea - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 1:17 pm:

Illinois is the best state to live in in the Midwest…

  49. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 1:20 pm:

===Illinois is the best state to live in in the Midwest…===

This would be a foolish thought if you still live here, lol

  50. - Lucky Pierre - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 1:34 pm:

Illinois is not losing population and wealthy residents and Democrats support the business community

  51. - Demoralized - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 1:49 pm:

    Pretty much anything @LP says

  52. - JS Mill - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 1:55 pm:

@LP- math is not your friend.

  53. - Emerald - Friday, Jun 30, 23 @ 2:35 pm:

In one of his first speeches after being elected as Governor, Rauner referred to “Illinois’ vast prairies.” [Only a tiny fraction of “The Prairie State’s” prairies remain -
