I kinda wonder how this conversation went

Thursday, Jul 27, 2023 - Posted by Rich Miller

* I posted this press release earlier today…

Governor JB Pritzker joined Hoyleton Youth and Family Services today to break ground on a once in a generation construction project that will provide a new model of care for vulnerable youth 9-18 years old living in residential care. The new residential campus will allow youth, who are both developmentally and intellectually delayed and have experienced trauma, to heal and grow in a therapeutic environment.

Hoyleton is in southern Illinois.

* Mark Maxwell was there and posted a pic on X, or whatever it’s called. Zooming in

  1. - JS Mill - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 2:43 pm:

Our governor is a good sport. Desantis would never stand with someone sporting attire with a more progressive marriage.

  2. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 2:44 pm:

That face when you come to realize the only people that will come and help you are the ones you vilify behind their back?

  3. - Almost the Weekend - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 2:46 pm:

Pritzker should have been wearing a shirt showing the ROR of Illinois taxes each area of Illinois receives.

  4. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 2:47 pm:

That face when you realize that all the anger and vitriol you spout and none of your heroes actually helped you at all

  5. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 2:49 pm:

    See, I think it’s a perfect picture.

It’s symbolic of folks who can’t get out of their own way to think they own someone, when in actuality the only folks willing to help aren’t their heroes.

I love this picture exactly as is. The face is priceless.

  6. - Michelle Flaherty - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 2:52 pm:

Hey congratulate the guy on wearing a government bureaucrat mandated hard hat.

  7. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 2:53 pm:

That face when you remember all those signs you put up with Pritzker’s name but none are as supportive as Pritzker is for you now.

  8. - Dotnonymous x - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 2:54 pm:

The face when the bottom of the bucket falls out…and you realize you’re empty.

  9. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 2:56 pm:

That face when you look around the poker table, looking, and you realize it’s you…

  10. - Dotnonymous x - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 2:57 pm:

Contrasting a genuine smile…with a (failed) forced one.

  11. - OneMan - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 2:57 pm:

Awkwardly, I am guessing it went awkwardly.

Credit to the Governor for keeping a smile on his face.

  12. - 47th Ward - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:01 pm:

The gold cross completes the ensemble.

  13. - Retired and Still in Illinois - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:03 pm:

He’s the Al Bundy of Hoyleton. Future generations will remember in awe the time he owned the liberal, woke governor of Chicago by bravely wearing his politically incorrect best t shirt. Bravo sir and good luck with raising those rascally kids with stern, god fearing discipline and patriotism.

  14. - Homebody - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:05 pm:

Agreed with JS Mill. Someone like DeSantis will actively try to hurt you if you disagree with him. Someone like Pritzker will actively try to help you, even if you disagree with him.

Regardless of your opinion on specific policy choices (and even within the IL Dems we can see disagreements on a number of specific issues), there is a fundamental difference in how each type of governor sees their relationship with those who disagree with them.

  15. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:07 pm:

=== Credit to the Governor for keeping a smile on his face.===

Aw, I think the governor being jovial is hurting with such kindness, while doing a great thing, it’s perfect. That poor soul is beside himself, otherwise he wouldn’t need a “child-like favorite onesie” t-shirt to feel better.

  16. - TheUpperRoom - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:07 pm:

Its ok to not vote for someone and still support certain things you like about them, or to support them in their role in general. It’s ok for politicians to support their communities. Once you get the job, you get the job, and you are a representative of everyone in your community.
This photo should be the norm, not the exception. But its good to see nonetheless.

  17. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:08 pm:

It’s likely his best and cleanest t-shirt, which is even more adorable.

    Here’s the sitch, for me;

You wear that shirt for this event knowing you’re likely meeting the governor, yeah, you want attention.

    So…

  18. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:10 pm:

=== This photo should be the norm, not the exception.===

Narrator: it’s a protest shirt, not worn for or with any respect.

  19. - 47th Ward - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:10 pm:

You have to click on Maxwell’s pic to see the shorts this guy is wearing. Did he know this was a photo-op?

  20. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:12 pm:

That face when you realize you wore this shirt as a mocking and everyone around, that you disagree with, *wants* you closer to the governor.

  21. - BCOSEC - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:13 pm:

Who is the man standing next to the Governor?

Lots of assumptions are being made about him based on the shirt he’s wearing.

  22. - Rich Miller - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:14 pm:

===Lots of assumptions are being made about him based on the shirt he’s wearing===

    LOL

Maybe turn up your AC a bit more so you’re not so grumpy.

  23. - bhartbanjo - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:17 pm:

He would be a lot prettier if he would just smile.

  24. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:18 pm:

    ===Lots of assumptions===

That shirt left no doubt who he is.

The shirt * LITERALLY* says… “I am proudly”

What, was it confused with his other protest t-shirt he wanted to wear?

  25. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:19 pm:

That face when you realize you wore a shirt that proudly makes you look foolish

  26. - Siualum - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:20 pm:

    Clothes make the man.

  27. - Don - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:21 pm:

Max, you fancy yourself a writer? He’s cheerfully interacting with a conservative wing nut and instead you lazily go for the tired, unamusing
    @illinoispolicy
    quality “joke”.

    Weak, Scoop. Really weak.

  28. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:23 pm:

That face when you remember all the times you told your friends all the things you would tell Pritzker if you ever ran into him and you know right here and now you won’t do or say a single thing you said, but you will say thank you.

  29. - Steve Rogers - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:23 pm:

I guess his face is saying the old adage of keeping your friends close and your enemies closer.

  30. - 47th Ward - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:24 pm:

“I was gonna wear my I’m with Stupid shirt, but it’s at the cleaners.”

  31. - BCOSEC - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:25 pm:

I’m not grumpy. Who is it? Assume it’s someone with Hoyleton Youth and Family Services. Not sure I agree with the clothing choice, but the people working at facilities like these aren’t doing easy work by any means.

  32. - Kippax Blue - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:25 pm:

…. And I stand with the Governor. Say it. Say It!

  33. - 47th Ward - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:26 pm:

Pritzker: “Love the shirt, where’d you get it? Do they make them in 3XL?”

  34. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:27 pm:

That face when you realize the only person intimidated was you the entire time.

  35. - Bruce( no not him) - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:29 pm:

    Governor Pritzker told him:
“I’m wearing a tshirt under my suit.
Except mine says I’m with stupid with an arrow pointing at you”

  36. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:31 pm:

That face when it finally dawned on you… I’m a cliche’

  37. - Steve Rogers - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:33 pm:

Maybe he should have worn his “I voted for Bailey” t-shirt.

  38. - HouseofLyons - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:34 pm:

What I find odd is that it isn’t actually politically incorrect to do any of those things (admittedly I’m not able to read the one on his far right).

  39. - Henry Francis - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:35 pm:

That’s the same look that was on Bruce Rauner’s face when (citizen) JB wrote a big check and bailed out Mrs. Rauner’s organization that was being denied funds by her husband’s administration.

  40. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:37 pm:

That face when you realize on a day filled with help and love you wore a hater shirt and it didn’t matter… to anyone.

  41. - Cubs in '16 - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:52 pm:

The guy is probably trying to nail down the gig as Bailey’s next campaign manager.

  42. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 3:54 pm:

That face when you realize the actual real world is passing you by.

  43. - Grandson of Man - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 4:00 pm:

The face you have when political opponents continue to turn off key voting demographics and keep handing you power. Please proceed.

  44. - lloyd - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 4:04 pm:

Mickey Pearson : Well, you also seem to understand the significance of a proper attire.

Matthew : Indeed I do. I believe a sense of ownership is vital in every aspect of life, perhaps never more so than when it comes to wardrobe. For every look there is a season, and for every season a strategy.

  45. - Frida's boss - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 4:15 pm:

Guaranteed when his wife sees this picture she’s going to say- I told you that was a dumb idea. No cares about your shirt and now you look like an idiot forever.

  46. - Bruce( no not him) - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 4:32 pm:

I was going to wear my Pritzker Sucks shirt, but it was dirty.

  47. - The Way I See It - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 5:02 pm:

    Irony free.

  48. - btowntruth from forgottonia - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 6:34 pm:

He wanted attention……well now he has it.
May not be what he thought it would be though.

  49. - Candy Dogood - Thursday, Jul 27, 23 @ 8:06 pm:

I really wish you hadn’t cropped out the shorts. They really tie his outfit together.

I can just imagine how he picked that shirt out special for today thinking he was going to make some sort of statement without realizing that his brave outspoken stance is imaginary. It takes a lot of delusion to think that licking boots is politically incorrect.
