The local angle

Friday, Aug 25, 2023 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Republican congressional candidate Darren Bailey’s reaction to the booking of a former POTUS…

* US Rep. Mike Bost is trying to fend off Bailey’s challenge…

* US Rep. Mary Miller has been a Trump and Bailey ally…

* Republican US Rep. Darin LaHood’s non-government XTwitter account has been silent all month. The Illinois Republican Party’s account hasn’t been silent, but it has been mum on the Georgia indictments…

* The Cook County Republican Party has been far more active, rextweeting various memes and things like this

* I searched the accounts I follow and didn’t see anything mentioning yesterday’s events from elected Democrats, the state party, etc.

* Let’s move on to a different Illinois angle. More background on Illinoisan Trevian Kutti is here if you need it. She’s a bit on the weird side, to say the least. Her booking photo…

Whew.

* Some background on Stephen Lee is here

“Our great modern Republic. May those who seek the blessings of its institutions and the protection of its flag remember the obligations they impose.”

    - Ulysses S. Grant

Those embracing Trump and the conspirators are supporting the insurrection. Full Stop.

    Traitors or Patriots

You can’t be a “lil seditious” or support a “lil insurrection”

“… all enemies, foreign and domestic…”

I went to a special swearing in where in the oath, those words were included.

After, the speaker revisited those exact words for all attending to remember… diligence means understanding that the oath is to our constitution, and not anything or anyone else.

At this time, I recommend a Google search for “Kubrick stare.”

After surrendering now, for what, the fourth time, they go with “never surrender?”

Talk about a lack of self-awareness.

    ==Despite election interference==

Coming up on ‘Unsolved Mysteries’, right after ‘Finding Bigfoot’.

  5. - Flyin'Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 12:53 pm:

Mike Bost may very well be the luckiest politician in American history.

  6. - Rudy’s teeth - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 12:55 pm:

Someone in Darren Bailey’s family should hide his computer. Bailey is making a fool of himself with his posts. Bailey needs an intervention.

Bailey ran for governor and was soundly defeated by JB Pritzker. Now Bailey hopes to secure a spot in Congress. Does his pea brain not understand the word indictment?

That Bailey mindlessly follows the multi-indicted ex-president indicates that Bailey is nothing more than an opportunist.

A movie scene comes to mind:

“One of us; gooble-gobble, one of us, gooble-gobble…”

  8. - Club J - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 1:09 pm:

I think Bailey would support the Devil if he thought that would help him finally win an election. He’s making such a fool out of himself. It would be actually sad to watch if he wasn’t so predictable.

Yesterday, we were reminded that IL has a history of corrupt politicians.
Today, we are reminded that IL has a number of inept politicians.

=== Southern Illinois proudly supports President Donald J. Trump! ===

I live in Mike Bost’s district and he does not speak for me.

It reminds me of Kenny Williams’ statement on being fired, which opens with “I’m not really a statement kind of guy.” Really, Kenny? I don’t know many people who want to write a statement about being fired.

So much for the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

  15. - Ducky LaMoore - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 1:50 pm:

Bailey’s photo kind of looks like the warden from the Shawshank Redemption. Don’t go quietly, Darren.

  17. - ??? - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 1:53 pm:

So, the self-proclaimed party of “law and order” is making a mockery of our justice system with these ridiculous mug shot photos. Nice.

Bailey posted the other day on Facebook that he wouldn’t be watching the GOP debate on Wednesday because he firmly supports Trump. I was amazed at the misinformation being spread on the comment thread of that post. One woman was saying that Pritzker was not going to “allow” Trump to be on the ballot and that keeping him off the ballot was election interference. When I asked her where on earth she read that Pritzker was going to refuse to let Trump be on the ballot, she just said “a lot of governors are saying that.” As usual, these numbskulls have no source. Someone makes up something and the rest of the cult members pick it up and run with it.

  19. - Amalia - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 1:56 pm:

rarely at a loss for words, I’m running out of things to say about the indicted and their supporters. what is in the mind of someone who puts their photo against a county background as if they were arrested? I can’t access understanding to that at all. but worse is the drumbeat about civil war. Palin, reactions to posts, this is a truly out there and potentially violent bunch. maybe I’m glad I don’t understand but I sure do wish I knew what we could do to combat all of it.

  20. - Gravitas - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 1:57 pm:

Context matters: several other defendants were tried or entered guilty pleas preceded that comment. The Commonwealth Edison officers who worked with the legislators.

  21. - Dotnonymous x - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 1:58 pm:

Donald Trump et al. are all innocent…until proved guilty… guilty… guilty.

  22. - Rich Miller - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 2:00 pm:

===Context matters: several other defendants were tried or entered guilty pleas preceded that comment===

    lol

There’s plenty of context on this topic.

  23. - H-W - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 2:21 pm:

It is easy to photoshop yourself into a picture suggesting you would go to jail for Trump.

It is another to get yourself a real booking photo, Mr. Bailey.

And yet a third thing to understand the usages of the word “fool” in the Book of Proverbs.

  24. - Former ILSIP - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 2:22 pm:

The question is, do the folks here have their pulse on the public sentiment or do the plethora of shirts advertising booking photos of famous individuals (Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra, etc.) mean something more? Americans like an outlaw (Billy the Kid, Jesse James, Bonnie and Clyde), and Trump’s booking photo is a free ad for the rest of the campaign. Bailey, et al. are playing off of that, but they too are touching on a popular topic and will likely get some support, however temporary.

  25. - Rich Miller - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 2:25 pm:

=== Americans like an outlaw (Billy the Kid, Jesse James, Bonnie and Clyde)===

In movies, books and popular lore, yes. Clyde prolly couldn’t have been elected to Congress, however.

  26. - H-W - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 2:26 pm:

    Good point, Former ILSIP.

  27. - Flyin'Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 2:31 pm:

Americans like the idea of an outlaw. One living next door or representing them, not so much.

  28. - The Truth - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 2:35 pm:

@Former ILSIP, the nature of the crime committed changes the context dramatically. Johnny Cash getting nicked for picking flowers on drugs isn’t the same as trying to overturn an election.

Also, we all agree that Johnny Cash was picking those flowers on drugs. These nutjobs don’t think Trump did any of this, despite actual evidence being plainly available.

Essentially, these shirts will be a signal to the majority of the country that a crazy person is inside the garment.

  29. - Rudy’s teeth - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 2:51 pm:

Darren Bailey’s actions are in direct contrast to his mantra of faith, family, and farming.

To post a mugshot is a craven attempt to align with the ex-president. Desperate Darren will say and do anything to promote himself as an acolyte of the former president. Pathetic.

  30. - West Side the Best Side - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 2:56 pm:

What’s Bailey being charged with in his mugshot, aggravated mopery?

  31. - JS Mill - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 4:15 pm:

=Our country stands with President Trump amidst the unjust witch hunts=

    Ummmm…no, Mary we do not.

    =Context matters:=

Yeah, I agree. So the context for me is trumps own words. In interviews, on recordings, in his rants. His words were all that I needed. I guess you don’t believe trump?

  32. - Nick Name - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 4:37 pm:

===and Trump’s booking photo is a free ad for the rest of the campaign===

If a booking photo constitutes a free ad for a political candidate, then the only people who support him are morally depraved reprobates.

  33. - Ducky LaMoore - Friday, Aug 25, 23 @ 4:38 pm:

    “aggravated mopery?”

    Demented chicanery.
