Chicago experienced a 50 percent increase in asylum-seekers housed in staging centers last week

Tuesday, Oct 10, 2023 - Posted by Rich Miller

* From the City of Chicago’s aldermanic briefing on October 6th, which was this past Friday

There’s more, so click here.

* Meanwhile, the mayor’s communications with alderpersons continue to be woefully inadequate. Block Club Chicago

Officials are holding a community meeting this week to share details about a proposed shelter in Ukrainian Village that could soon house asylum seekers.

The city has identified an industrial building at 526 N. Western Ave. for the shelter, according to a map on a city data portal and Ald. Gilbert Villegas (36th), whose ward includes the site. […]

Villegas said he’s waiting for additional information from the mayor’s office, but may not learn more until neighbors do at Thursday’s meeting.

“As of today, I don’t have details as relates to how many people are going to be sheltered, what are the plans to provide wraparound services, whether it’s singles or families, how they’re going to be interacting with local schools, the parks, etc.,” he said. “I don’t know what the plans are from the administration.”

Unacceptable behavior.

* It’s no wonder that people in Joliet are upset. All they have to do is look at Chicago and the lack of a coordinated response by the city, state and federal governments

A state grant awarded to Joliet Township would fund services for migrants, but some residents in the southwest suburb are questioning whether the money should be accepted.

Community members say they were surprised to learn recently that Joliet Township applied for funding to aid asylum seekers. Word spread quickly when, on Friday, Sept. 29, Governor J.B. Pritzker announced that Joliet was selected to receive $8.6 million. […]

As controversy brews, a Joliet Township board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 5 p.m. There, Sheridan and Brown – among other residents – plan to share their concerns. […]

It’s expected to draw such a large crowd, that it was moved from Joliet Township Hall to the auditorium at Bicentennial Park.

Yikes.

    The numbers are staggering.

Again, the Mayor, SDG, Potter, and CRR are way in over their heads. They are not leading they are barely reacting.
Where is the mayor? He seems to only go to places that have good photo ops and where he can talk in cliches and platitudes.
The Gov and his team need to take over the deal, similar to Covid. Trump was not doing anything early on and JB and the team made decisions and moved quickly. Not everything was liked or well received, and there were mistakes but action took place. That is not happening with the Mayor and team. The cold is coming quickly, and letting BJ and his heavily understaffed team run this show is malpractice they are amateurs and not real.
Can you imagine when people are stuck inside this tent city during the polar vortex or 15 inches of snow? Can these tenst actually handle that? We are about 50 days away from snow. About 30 days away from consistent overnights getting to the 30’s.

    =The numbers are staggering.=

Hardly. On the positive side, our population is growing. /no snark.

I’m sure there is/are reasons, why aren’t a few busses rerouted to Rockford, QC, Peoria, Decatur, Springfield, etc? I would assume (probably incorrectly) having 1 bus every other day in these places could be handled easier than dumping everyone into Chicago?

When voters choose a guy whose only experience is in making lesson plans, this is the result.

    Many teachers follow this format—-
    Create objectives
Develop strategies to achieve the objectives
    Assess the results

Perhaps Mayor Johnson should review these principles.

The last guv’nor was a north shore day trader. No government qualifications.

Mayor Johnson’s opponent was a Lesson Plan Creator too.

The founder of one of the leading private equity firms in the US is a “day trader”? Tell us another one Jerry

Spent some time yesterday near Michigan Ave. and Ontario and was surprised to see four young boys (10/11 y.o.) unattended playing on the escalator.

The four would race to the top and then down to the bottom.Very dangerous as their clothes could catch on the moving stairs. A security guard looked the other way.

This location is close to the migrant shelter on E. Ohio St. and also Northwestern Hospital if they crack their head open during a fall.

That’s right LP. You’re link does nothing to bolster your claim. He sat around in his pajamas and sold stocks on the google computer machine.
