…Adding… Sen. McClure…
State Senator Steve McClure (R-Springfield) released the following statement after former State Senator State Senator Sam McCann pled guilty:
“I got into politics because I was concerned that my senator at the time, Sam McCann, was corrupt. Justice was served today as McCann finally took responsibility for his actions by pleading guilty. I commend the U.S. Attorney’s office for their outstanding work. We have to root out corruption in this state at all levels because Illinois deserves better.”

Based on the coverage I’ve seen of the prosecution’s case, this seems like a good idea. Seemed to me that he was going to be convicted. A plea should result in less time than if this had gone to the jury.

Didn’t his original attorney tell him to take a plea? lol

So after employing numerous delay tactics and failing to notify the judge of his release from the hospital, he decides to end his trial early and plead guilty. That was a ridiculous amount of drama for a clear cut case of misusing funds.

Once his mother in laws testimony torched him it was time to wrap it up. Sam will not get the turkey leg this Thanksgiving. Game over sports fans.

McCann dragged and delayed this case for so long and then decided to plead guilty. What a putz.

What did his mother in law say? I didn’t see that story.

“… the FBI wanted him to say IL House Speaker Mike Madigan helped him “rig an election” … ”
Thought that was men’s room graffiti in every FBI / US Attorney’s Office in Illinois … /S

It’s good that the case is over and appropriate punishment will be delivered. But it seems like McCann jumped off the reality train a while back. Hopefully he will find his way back.

You kind of wonder at what point during the prosecutions case he realized “I am screwed”

A stint in the pen might be the only thing that gets McCann’s attention because even with this plea I still don’t think he get’s it.

===I got into politics because I was concerned that my senator at the time, Sam McCann, was corrupt.===
McClure is one of the more effective GOP legislators, but statements like this aren’t necessary and are dubious. It also doesn’t match the tenor of statements he made on the record when he was running for office in 2017.
===“Financially, the state is in a mess still to this day, and so I want to go into public service in the state Senate to change that.”===
Unless by corrupt he means ‘voted against Bruce Rauner’ I don’t think that had a whole lot to do with his decision to decide to run for office. This statement is just unnecessary grandstanding and begs the question if he knew Sam McCann was corrupt in 2017, what was he doing as a prosecutor to address that?
