Bailey hints at Bost rematch

Friday, Mar 22, 2024 - Posted by Rich Miller

* From Darren Bailey’s live Facebook video yesterday

So we got work to do. Stay tuned. We look forward to seeing many of you across the district and the state.

Across the district. If you’ve got signs out there, if you see signs, gather them up, throw them in your vehicle, take them somewhere and… send me the address. Most of you have my cell phone by now, most of you have my email. Send a personal message on the Facebook here.

Let me know an address. We’ll come by and pick up signs, we will collect those and put those in storage.

He’s putting his yard signs in storage?

Hmm.

maybe he’s just trying to avoid them going to the landfill. who knew he was such an environmentalist.

  2. - James - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 8:33 am:

Bailey will run again. He got a taste of the big leagues when he was running for Governor and he wants that back in the worst kind of way. His Facebook profile says he works at being humble. I struggle to believe that

  3. - DuPage Saint - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 8:33 am:

i knew it would be a useful quote but did not realize how quickly it would be needed but to quote a federal judge Just go away please go

  4. - Trap - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 8:40 am:

2 more years of the televangelist troll. Who would want to work in the Republican party while this false prophet runs around wrecking it sinply for his own Facebook glory?

  5. - DuPage Dad - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 8:40 am:

He’s got them huge barns at the family farm to store them, which tangentially loses money more years than not without the help of the evil federal government’s farm subsidy programs, might I remind you.

  6. - Michelle Flaherty - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 8:42 am:

Bailey puts the campaign signs in storage in much the same way Buffalo Bill puts the lotion in the basket.

  7. - Frumpy White Guy - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 8:46 am:

Hey Darren, stop the bluster cause those hogs need tending.

  8. - Terry Salad - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 8:46 am:

Bailey supports recycling. So he is a progressive, right?

  9. - Suburban Mom - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 8:51 am:

Fundamentally, while they’re indistinguishable on the Trumpy merits, Bailey is just a lot more CRINGE than Bost. His public persona is just FULL OF CRINGE, and that’s so deadly to a higher-profile politician.

  10. - Cornfield Cowboy - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 8:53 am:

How can we miss you, if you won’t go away.

  11. - TheInvisibleMan - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 8:57 am:

    Maybe he’s just a packrat.

I mean, have you *seen* his dining room/kitchen? That place has more tchotchkes than a TGIF.

  12. - Democracy - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 9:04 am:

Bailey invites comparisons to the crocodile smile and toadstools immortalized in best-ever Christmas show, featuring Boris Karloff. But, let’s give the fella a break. If he wants his name off the landscape, that can’t be all bad.

Enjoy your Who Roast Beast, Mr. Bailey.

  13. - Huh? - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 9:09 am:

“The time has come. The time has come. The time is now. Just Go. Go. GO! I don’t care how. You can go by foot. You can go by cow. Beetle, will you please go now!”

    Bailey/Fioretti 2020never

  15. - Southside Markie - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 9:29 am:

Somewhere in the great beyond, Lar “America First” Daley is smiling.

  16. - Friendly Bob Adams - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 9:32 am:

Public attention is a tough habit to kick. Let’s hope Bailey finds something else useful to do with his time.

  17. - Pius - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 9:38 am:

Beetle might be hoping that Bost will retire a little early.

  18. - 48th Ward Heel - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 9:39 am:

The bummer about Bailey being a farmer (from Southern Illinois) is that he’s tied to the land, and probably not gonna pull up stakes and move to Florida with Rauner and Griffin and Proft anytime soon.

  19. - Rabid - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 9:43 am:

He got a sign from god

  20. - Rich Miller - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 9:49 am:

===probably not gonna pull up stakes and move to Florida===

Ever hear of CSF farmers? Corn, Soybeans, Florida.

  21. - Bruce( no not him) - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 9:55 am:

‘So if I store these, I can charge my campaign fund storage fees, right?”

  22. - OneMan - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 10:02 am:

Of course, he isn’t going to go away, he is never going to go away

  23. - ChrisB - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 10:04 am:

Can’t wait to see his blimp commercial in 2026.

  24. - Annonin' - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 10:04 am:

Perhaps Gomer can join his Trump loving pal, Blagoof, on the permanent sidelines. The Donald will be there soon enough.

  25. - fs - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 10:08 am:

== Ever hear of CSF farmers? Corn, Soybeans, Florida.==

Some of his biggest donors the last few years are very much in this pipeline. The land doesn’t disappear, they just reap the rewards of it from much nicer weather (excepting hurricane season). I’m sure he’ll have three hots and a cot down there eventually.

  26. - Henry Francis - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 10:09 am:

He needs something to set on fire or explode in his next campaign ad.

  27. - TJ - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 10:14 am:

    Feel free to keep losing.

  28. - Cornerfield - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 10:30 am:

Yard signs make nice and cheap mobile stands for target practice. Just tape on a paper target and plink away.

  29. - JSI - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 10:30 am:

Listen Darren, I talked to God about this and He said, “No.”

  30. - JS Mill - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 10:32 am:

    His new business card reads…

    Darren Bailey
    Professional Candidate
    Hobby Farmer

  31. - Shytown - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 10:35 am:

Do the right thing folks and burns those signs

  32. - The Old Man - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 10:40 am:

Bailey just got a revelation that he next is supposed to run for President, Rumor is that he is getting stickers made which say FOR PRESIDENT, which he will glue or staple on his retrieved signs.
    God help us all.

  33. - Rudy’s teeth - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 10:42 am:

Darren Bailey is the aging football player who wears his high school letterman’s jacket everywhere. Yes, he is that guy.

  34. - Frida's boss - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 10:52 am:

    Oh Lord just go away

  35. - cermak_rd - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 11:10 am:

Do people ever win in head to head rematches where they previously lost? Nixon won after losing, but he wasn’t facing Kennedy again.
Assuming Bost doesn’t face a massive scandal, in 2 years, he’s still the same guy. Bailey knows his electoral weaknesses now, but the same is true vice versa.

  36. - Blitz - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 11:11 am:

Referring to it as The Facebook is probably my favorite part.

  37. - Rudy’s teeth - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 12:08 pm:

Darren Bailey has a wife, a family, many grandchildren, a farming empire thanks to government subsidies yet he is not content. Is Bailey’s ego driving him to another campaign? Time for Bailey to give his voice and those teeth a rest.

  38. - Pundent - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 12:15 pm:

=Do people ever win in head to head rematches where they previously lost?=

I’m not sure that history is all that telling in our present environment. There have been lots of firsts the last 8 years or so.

The GOP will continue to be divided through internal conflict. MTG is once again calling for the ouster of a speaker. Republicans, including Bost, will have to pick a side. For Bailey that translates to further opportunities to exploit the divisions for his own benefit.

  39. - Dirty Red - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 12:19 pm:

If you’re a farmer, they make decent makeshift snow fences.

  40. - Stormsw7706 - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 1:06 pm:

Go away Darin. Tend to your taxpayer subsidized farm and your Taliban school.

  41. - PublicServant - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 1:17 pm:

=== Let’s hope Bailey finds something else useful to do with his time. ===

Aren’t there any stacks of paper he can shoot at?

  42. - Gravitas - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 2:39 pm:

Do people ever win in head to head rematches where they previously lost?

    @Cermak Road:

It is rare, but it has happened: John Quincy Adams edged Andrew Jackson in 1824 for the presidency, but Jackson won the rematch in 1828; Incumbent President Grover Cleveland lost to Benjamin Harrison in 1888 and won the rematch in 1892.

  43. - Give Us Barabbas - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 2:52 pm:

He’s going to Burma-Shave-the entire highway all the way to Springfield.

  44. - So_Ill - Friday, Mar 22, 24 @ 3:24 pm:

==Do people ever win in head to head rematches where they previously lost?==

Some recent ones that come to mind.

Bobby Schilling ran against Cheri Bustos after he lost to her in 2012. He lost by 7 points in 2012 and 11 in 2014.

Betsy Londrigan lost to Rodney Davis in 2018 by .8 points. She lost in 2020 by 9 points.

    Good luck Darren.

    Bost.
