  1. - Keyrock - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 7:51 am:

Our dog started shaking and put its tail down minutes before totality. She was low energy the rest of the day. Just getting back to normal this morning,

  2. - NonAFSCMEStateEmployeeFromChatham - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 7:58 am:

Fire alarm has already been activated in the Stratton, around 7:40. Hopefully was either an accidental alarm or something extremely minor, and hopefully no one hurt.

  3. - Flyin'Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 8:00 am:

Couldn’t have asked for better weather in Union County yesterday.

  4. - Joe - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 8:16 am:

Big Township meeting tonight. We hope this is not a start of a large fight for more fidecially spending

  5. - Give Me A Break - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 8:45 am:

The weather in the 217 was perfect yesterday in our area.

Was interesting to observe about 10 mins prior to eclipse starting, the birds went silent and didn’t seem to be flying much. We have multiple feeders in our yard and it was strange not seeing or hearing any activity until the eclipse was ending.

  6. - Amalia - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 8:47 am:

sun. so needed.still lots of marshy spots in thickets from that huge rain.

  7. - Aaron B - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 8:49 am:

Perfect view of the eclipse that was available in Kankakee. Props to that star in the sky though, even though the street lights came on automatically there was still a surprising amount of light for an almost 96% eclipse.

  8. - low level - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 8:56 am:

White Sox have 2nd worst record in MLB. Front office is clueless. This ownership group has won only 1 championship since purchasing the team in 1981.

Lets not reward failure by building them a new stadium.

  9. - Carol Taylor - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 9:00 am:

Morning fire alarms in State buildings in my experience have been toaster pastry “fires”.

  10. - Friendly Bob Adams - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 9:05 am:

Kind of a boring college basketball championship game last night. At least Illinois can say it lost to the national champions.

  11. - Leap Day William - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 9:28 am:

Went to southern Indiana to see the totality, because I didn’t want to get stuck on I-57 for hours coming home like 2017. Took state highway roads almost the entire way back, and it proved to be an extremely smart decision as I got home in roughly the same time it took to get there.

The eclipse itself was magnificent and we couldn’t have asked for a better day. Four minutes of totality, while significant, was not enough; but alas, in the words of Leonard Nimoy on the Springfield Monorail, “the cosmic ballet goes on.”

  12. - The Magnificent Purple Walnut - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 9:30 am:

low level, The Cubs have won 1 championship in the last 116 years. And the ones they won in 1907 and 1908 were won while playing their home games on the south side. But yeah, this Sox team is BRUTAL.

  13. - Webster - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 9:51 am:

=the ones they won in 1907 and 1908 were won while playing their home games on the south side=

Not to mention, there were only 8 teams in the NL and 16 total, as opposed to 30 teams now so the odds were much better back then.

  14. - stateandlake - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 9:53 am:

Sox pitching better than expected, hitting non-existent. They need to unload the marketing prima donna who ran off Jason Benetti, and get some people in there who know something about putting together a good team.

  15. - ArchPundit - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 10:28 am:

74 past Danville was pretty decent on the return trip from Indiana–we were west of Indianapolis at a Big Walnut Preserve which is presumably putting Small Walnut out of business (here all week folks…)

Had an ala Baldini for dinnner Sunday. Successful trip.

  16. - Homebody - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 10:40 am:

Took the day off yesterday to watch the eclipse in Indianapolis in gorgeous weather. Today I’m working from home with the windows open.

Everyone loves to talk about summer in Chicago, but these 60-75 degree spring days are so precious to me. Nice enough to have all the windows open, but not so hot and humid that I’m sweating everywhere.

Definitely hard to concentrate on work with all the birds chirping though.

  17. - TheInvisibleMan - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 11:14 am:

Left Bloomfield Indiana the second totality ended at 2:15.

Made it back into Chicagoland by 7:45.

Granted, it helped knowing the roads down there like the back of my hand.

Much better than the 16hrs it took to get home back in 2017.

  18. - Gravitas - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 11:19 am:

The 1907 and 1908 Chicago Cubs played their home games on the West Side of Chicago. The ballpark was located on the site of the current University of Illinois/Illinois Medical Center District.

  19. - Retired SURS Employee - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 11:27 am:

We traveled to Westfield IN from Geneva IL to view the eclipse. In 2017 we traveled all the way to Ste. Genevieve Mo but that’s to long of a drive for me 6 1/2 years later. The weather in Westfield (just north of Indianapolis was outstanding and the eclipse itself was better than the 2017 eclipse. Travel back home was easy except for a 3 mile stretch on I-74 just inside the Illinois State line due to road construction restricting the large amount of returnees from Indiana.

  20. - ArchPundit - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 11:30 am:

–Travel back home was easy except for a 3 mile stretch on I-74 just inside the Illinois State lin

    Should have waived ;)

  21. - Amalia - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 11:33 am:

any long traffic reports back from Carbondale? 2017 was a very long slog

  22. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 11:36 am:

===Much better than the 16hrs it took to get home back in 2017.===

Not sure if that’s because fewer people showed up, or whether the state and locals did a better job with traffic control, but your example isn’t isolated as far as my circle of friends is concerned.

  23. - thisjustinagain - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 11:52 am:

Stood in front of my house in the 60827 zip with my special glasses on. Oddly enough my phone refused to photo the occluded sun, making it a fully exposed sun multiple times. Any Motorola phone owners have that happen??

  24. - TJ - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 1:40 pm:

Eclipse in Benton was amazing. I seem to remember that 2017’s in Herrin had a more remarkable corona, but that might’ve just been more of my memory being more shocked by the first sight of it.

  25. - Retired SURS Employee - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 1:45 pm:

    –Should have waived–
Perhaps next time (if we are both still alive)!

WE did pass over I-65 when going through Lebanon IN and it was bumper-to-bumper northbound even though Lebanon is 20+ miles northwest of Indianapolis.

  26. - jimbo - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 2:41 pm:

==Oddly enough my phone refused to photo the occluded sun, making it a fully exposed sun multiple times. Any Motorola phone owners have that happen?? ==

I doubt anyone will see this, not Motorola, but yes. In 2017 I took decent Android cell phone shots holding extra eclipse glasses over the lens.

This year even at 90+% cover my new Android would only photograph a round sun- even though I still had the same pair of 2017 glasses.

  27. - FormerParatrooper - Tuesday, Apr 9, 24 @ 3:59 pm:

It was a bust trying to get photos from the plane yesterday. I knew it would be difficult because flying north away from the path. Try again in 2042.
