Someone on a Brimfield-area Facebook group shared this, with photo, but apparently at the end of business yesterday the Wyoming SOS driver’s facility closed permanently. Why it closed no one knows. This is confirmed on the SOS page:
Not only was this the driver’s facility for Stark County, but also was the facility of choice for anyone in northern and northwestern Peoria County (especially in the Brimfield, Dunlap and Princeville areas), and eastern Knox County (particularly around Williamsfield) who wanted to have an “easier driver’s test” in a small town setting rather than all the traffic around the facilities in Galesburg, Peoria, or Kewanee. Sad day yesterday for that area.
Kind of surprised there was no mention of the planned partial auction of the Tapper collection of Lincoln artifacts.
IT ran a story on it this week. They also gave an update of the breakup with library and museum, and subsequent association with the Lincoln Home site.
It would expect that whole topic to get a lot of comments.
For years there has been a converted effort to reduce the number of facility leases, etc across all State agencies by consolidating various agencies in just one facility. That was a project a relative worked on extensively. Don’t know if that is what happened there or not.
The largest (tallest) building in Springfield has a massive plumbing(?) failure, forcing everyone out of the building this week, including legislators, but you wouldn’t know about it if you rely on local news reporting for…local news. What a sad state local media is in.
= but you wouldn’t know about it if you rely on local news reporting for…local news.=
Still nothing on Channel 20’s page about the Wyndham but Champaign and Decatur stories are quite prominent.
Somewhere in Heaven Don Hickman, Bob Murray, Shelby Harbison, and other former Springfield-area media greats who are no longer are shedding tears over the lousy state of media in this city. Including on Channel 20.

Was lucky to have started watching the Bulls game in the fourth quarter last night. What a comeback, nine points in the last 12 seconds. The game winning shot from half court by Giddey, as the clock expired, was epic, as good as it gets.

After living in Illinois for over 40 years, I finally took a deep dive into our southernmost region.
I’m still trying to process Cairo. The triple whammy of its economy drying up, flooding, and abject racism turned it into what I can only describe as a purgatory town. Not a ghost town yet, but close.
I discovered Stace England today. He has an entire album dedicated to the city. It’s amazing.

Watching video on the Facebook machine of someone stealing and tearing up campaign signs in this part of Forgottonia…..in a road commisioners race no less….
My wife and I were just talking about this and the “Forum 30″ story. She said WICS had no mention of it. I said that is because the station is no longer a Springfield news center. It’s a regional news center. (The hotel will always be the Forum 30 to me. I remember going to the top floor and looking out the windows as a child.)
The SJ-R still has no mention of the Wyndham disaster at this time.
I don’t know if it’s one of those “pink slime” papers (if so I won’t post from it again), but the online-only Springfield Herald News does have an item about the Wyndham damage. SPD now thinks that the incident was an intentional act of vandalism:
The Springfield Herald News seems to now be the place to go for fans of the old SJR Police Beat, as they include city and county arrest reports. But in simple name and info of the person arrested, charges filed, date and time of arrest, police department making the arrest, etc. Unlike the SJR that only limited Police Beat to “most noteworthy police incidents” in the coverage area with as full of detail as possible about the incident.
Finally the SJ-R has something about the Wyndham disaster but par their course, the story is paywalled.
It took until 11:45 for Channel 20 to post a Wyndham story, but I’m thinking that was intentional after it was treated as “breaking news” for their 11am Midday news.
struggling with the best way to respond to all the deep change going on. glad spring is coming…so warm today… so I can worry about plants. it’s easier to fix those things.
