Make-work at the editorial board
Monday, May 5, 2025 - Posted by Rich Miller
* The Chicago Tribune editorial board concocts a scenario that nobody is even considering, then warns against doing it…
In theory, Illinois could protest by refusing to send tax dollars it collects from state employees to the federal government. It could require local municipalities to follow suit. Unlawful? Very likely, as are some of the steps Trump has taken in his first 100 days.
Don’t do it, Governor. The Constitution obligates our national government to allocate resources fairly among the states and, even if a president abuses that compact, responsible leaders still must keep the faith and set the right example.
All the stuff going on, and they’re spending time and resources concern-trolling about a fabricated “issue” without even checking with the governor’s press office (I know that because I checked with the press office).
Meanwhile, how many good reporters have left that paper?

Well, at least it’s a step up for them from wishing for hurricane-force storms to destroy major cities in the state.

It’s a day that ends in a -y, so therefore the Tribe editorial board has to make at least one dumb comment.
- Homebody - Monday, May 5, 25 @ 12:05 pm:
The Trib editorial board hasn’t been serious people for at least the last 15 years. I never really paid attention to them before that, but I’m sure someone with a longer memory than mine can weigh in.

The Bright One axed editorials. Right idea, wrong paper.

“In theory … “
In theory, the editorial board could call on the Tribune to recognize the publication’s inevitable economic doom and call for shuttering the place immediately.
Our message is: Don’t do it.
Despite its shortcomings and troubled fiscal reality, we need professional journalism now more than ever. Shuttering the Tribune would be a mistake.

Because JB relies heavily on the Trib editorial board for advice… /s

Maybe they should point to facts that Illinois send a lot more to the federal government than Illinois receives back and ponder why!

I’m sorry. They got that idea from me and some buddies at the Boss Bar in Chicago. Somebody from the Editorial Board must have been eavesdropping. But we were joking.

Has anyone checked the CO monitors over there? It could be time for new batteries.

fun to have editorials to criticize

Don’t put beans in your ear, either.

===Don’t put beans in your ear, either.===
My family raised chickens when we lived in the country. For some reason, my dad used the Ford Falcon to haul some corn to feed them. Some corn was on the floor. During a family driving vacation, my brother Denny put some of those kernels up his nose. When we were trying to tell him to blow out through his nose, he sucked air in. Necessitated a trip to the hospital.
So, yeah, don’t do that, either.

Reading the Trib editorials has become like listening to sports talk radio.
