Friday, Jun 20, 2025 - Posted by Rich Miller * Los Texmaniacs played at Fitzgerald’s last night and I really wanted to go, but then completely spaced it out. This will have to do… There are moments when you look like the devil Conjunto is among the best fusion music, in my opinion. It’s definitely the most fun. I mean, if you didn’t smile and nod your head while watching that, then the problem is within. * Anyway, what up by you?

Two interesting items on the Sun-Times morning newsletter:
“Chicago’s indie filmmakers say the state’s Film Office is causing a bureaucratic mess” (and basically favoring big Hollywood production studios at the expense of smaller indy filmmakers): https://chicago.suntimes.com/money/2025/06/19/chicago-indie-filmmakers-illinois-film-office-bureaucratic-mess
Also Ralph Martire has a column calling for all consumer services to be taxed: https://chicago.suntimes.com/columnists/2025/06/18/tax-policy-reform-illinois-budget-general-assembly-economy-ralph-martire

Why isn’t Los Lobos in the rock and roll hall of fame. Always a treat to see them live.

Goodbye to the Gale Street Inn after almost sixty-three years. Owner said the business suffered during the pandemic and had staffing problems afterwards.

Enjoying the last day or two before the mega heat wave next week. Not looking forward to that one.
On the plus side got to hang out with the grandbabies yesterday, so life is good.

Fitzgeralds is a gem.
Saw Stevie Ray Vaughan there before he made it big.
New owners are doing a great job musically and the new outdoor area is a wonderful addition.
July 4th is approaching, check out the line up.

Sox, Bulls, Hawks not being on free tv anymore is sad. They could have at least kept one game a week on free over-air channels. Or the replays. Greed and money.

The Consumer Federation of America released a new report that shows Illinois homeowners saw their insurance premiums increase by an average of 50% over the past three years. Only Utah (56%) was higher.
Sticking it to Illinois homeowners. Yet no outcry.
Are we really having cost increases above so many other states that justify this. I doubt it.
The Governor and the legislature need to investigate this.
