  1. - Politix - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 11:33 am:

    Nice.

    Perhaps someday the IL GOP will figure out why they are a superminority.

    Perhaps.

  2. - Walker - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 11:38 am:

    Nice to see some creativity in the approach
    The claim is false of course, as usual.

  3. - Heat of Summer - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 11:40 am:

    Seems this puts GOP also onboard with the other nickname for this camp where they will concentrate people - Alligator Auschwitz. Very on brand and their supporters love it.

  4. - 40,000 ft - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 11:48 am:

    Walker, what is false — The amount, the actual giveaway of tax dollars to noncitizens, or Pritzker needing to be incarcerated?

    There are a lot of people, 44% of the 5.5million that voted for the potus in Nov 2024, that agree with the sentiments in this post.

  5. - Loyal Virus - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 11:53 am:

    I guess the Fearful Caucus has access to the IL GOP twitter account.

  6. - Pundent - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 11:54 am:

    =There are a lot of people, 44% of the 5.5million that voted for the potus in Nov 2024, that agree with the sentiments in this post.=

    If the goal of the ILGOP is to get a minority of voters to agree with their messaging then they’re “winning.” In the meantime the Democratic Party will accomplish its goal of setting policy by winning elections.

  7. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 11:57 am:

    ===get a minority of voters ===

    Correction: A minority of their own voters.

  8. - Flyin' Elvis'-Utah Chapter - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 11:58 am:

    It’s post like these that need to remind a few commenters that pining for that “reasoned, moderate Republican” is a fool’s errand.

    No more Edgars, Thompsons, or the like.

    If you’re still voting GOP, this is your party. Lock, stock, and freak-show barrel.

    Own it, acknowledge it.

  9. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 11:59 am:

    ===what is false===

    Venezuelans seeking asylum don’t generally qualify for HBIA and HBIS. The IPI story this claim is based on is (surprise!) false.

    Also, advocating for sending a governor to a concentration camp for signing a duly passed bill into law is indefensible.

  10. - JS Mill - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 12:00 pm:

    =There are a lot of people, 44% of the 5.5million that voted for the potus in Nov 2024, that agree with the sentiments in this post.=

    If this same message came from the democrats and was targeted at potus, the ilgop would absolutely come unglued.

    Also, keep on keepin on with the micro minority.

  11. - CA-HOON - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 12:10 pm:

    ==Correction: A minority of their own voters.==

    Who are the most fervent and reliable come election day. The GOP needs the cult to remain at a fever pitch emotionally, or else they are truly lost. It’s why they are constantly tilting at windmills to get people riled, because if they ever stop then those voters might have a moment to themselves to think, or worse *actual facts* might get in between their ears that prove the lie.

  12. - Pot calling kettle - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 12:27 pm:

    == the actual giveaway of tax dollars to noncitizens==

    “Non-citizens” are still taxpayers. Is there a reason why they should no receive government services provided to other taxpayers?

  13. - Demoralized - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 12:27 pm:

    ==that agree with the sentiments in this post.==

    Shame on them and shame on you for defending it.

  14. - Paddyrollingstone - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 12:32 pm:

    Wow. A new low. This is the party of Thompson, Edgar, Topinka? I hope they become extinct.

  15. - Demoralized - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 12:34 pm:

    = concentration camp ==

    I’m glad you’re calling it what it is.

  16. - TJ - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 12:44 pm:

    The GOP is really the epitome of being able to dish it out but being unable to take it.

    GOP actively talks about incarcerating Democrats, but they heave and haw over being called weird.

    I swear, if the Dems were 1/10th as belligerent as the GOP is on a daily basis, they’d be launching a civil war as we speak.

  17. - 40,000 ft - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 12:48 pm:

    Assuming open debate is allowed here …

    Under current asylum rules a Venezuelan should request asylum in Columbia, Brazil, or other bordering country. Under that rule (easily googled) only Mexicans should be allowed as asylum seekers/refugees, but that is also invalid due to Mexico being a democratic country.

    Regarding the “concentration camp” tag, it’s actually a last stop detention facility for violent criminal aliens. Pritzker, if ever convicted of the obvious violations of 8 usc 1324 for harboring, inducing, etc, would probably be sentenced to Club Fed. He’d be fine.

    HBIA and HBIS may be kind policy, but they are illegal under federal criminal law. The fact that Illinois democrats continue to disregard federal law, while expecting compliance with other state/federal laws, is what is truly indefensible.

    Let’s keep debating. Maybe I can convince someone to think more critically about all this.

  18. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 12:49 pm:

    ===violent criminal aliens===

    Sure, Jan.

  19. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 12:53 pm:

    ===Let’s keep debating===

    Stop trying to change the subject.

  20. - JS Mill - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 1:01 pm:

    =Let’s keep debating. Maybe I can convince someone to think more critically about all this.=

    Translation- If you don’t think like me, and regurgitate the same talking points, YOU are not thinking critically. But when I just go with the talking points, I am thinking critically.

    LOL. So now tell me more about how the maga’s, with their very tender feel feels, are saying the governor should be put in a “camp” and how they would react if the shoe was on the other foot? Your thought leader(lol), by the way, is an actual convicted felon who didn’t serve any time.

  21. - CA-HOON - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 1:05 pm:

    === Maybe I can convince someone to think more critically about all this. ===

    Dunning-Kruger at its finest.

  22. - TJ - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 1:05 pm:

    == Regarding the “concentration camp” tag, it’s actually a last stop detention facility for violent criminal aliens ==

    Then by all means, show the due process where this was remotely legally proved.

  23. - SWIL_Voter - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 1:06 pm:

    ==Under current asylum rules a Venezuelan should request asylum in Columbia, Brazil, or other bordering country.==

    It can’t be stressed enough that no such rule exists

  24. - Arsenal - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 1:10 pm:

    ==Also, advocating for sending a governor to a concentration camp for signing a duly passed bill into law is indefensible.==

    And a *Jewish* Governor, no less.

  25. - Roadrager - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 1:18 pm:

    ==Regarding the “concentration camp” tag, it’s actually a last stop detention facility for violent criminal aliens.==

    It’s not a concentration camp unless it specifically originates from the Oberösterreich Bundesländer of Austria. Otherwise, it’s merely sparkling mass detention of undesirable others.

    Cripes, man, listen to yourself.

  26. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 1:37 pm:

    ===Let’s keep debating===

    Why won’t you debate the topic at hand, which is interring the governor without due process?

    If anything argues that this is a concentration camp, it’s the ILGOP’s own twisted logic.

  27. - Soccermom - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 1:45 pm:

    I just checked to make sure, and there is no
    “Neighboring country” rule.

  28. - Samantha - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 1:49 pm:

    Pritzker is a citizen and not an illegal immigrant so it’s unclear on what basis he would ever qualify for “Alligator Alcatraz” which is exclusively for holding foreign nationals in our country in violation of federal law. State GOP chair Kathy Salvi is a lawyer and one might think she would consider a little detail like that. But why be serious when you can just pander to the lowest common denominator.

  29. - Streator Curmudgeon - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 1:53 pm:

    The cutesy name “Alligator Alcatraz” doesn’t change what it is: a concentration camp.

    “Alligator Auschwitz” is what it will become when people start dying there from the heat and lack of medical attention.

  30. - James of Little Italy - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 2:13 pm:

    In grade school the appropriate retort was, “The one who smelt, it dealt it.” Things haven’t changed much since then.

  31. - Demoralized - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 2:16 pm:

    ==which is exclusively for holding foreign nationals in our country in violation of federal law==

    You’re making a deplorable place sound like it’s Club Fed.

  32. - 40,000 ft - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 2:22 pm:

    Why would you not post my comment that debates with facts about Pritzker’s actions, the topic of the ilgop post?

  33. - Dotnonymous x - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 2:27 pm:

    Bullies are empowered by their victim’s fear…they can’t operate without it.

  34. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 2:37 pm:

    ===the topic of the ilgop post===

    The topic was sending him to a concentration camp without trial.

  35. - Excitable Boy - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 2:42 pm:

    - Why would you not post my comment that debates with facts -

    Probably because you don’t seem to know what facts are.

  36. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 2:50 pm:

    ===Why would you not post my comment that debates with facts===

    Partly because it was off-topic, but mainly because you took a swipe at everyone here, which I frown upon: “I never learn anything from you folks”

  37. - Irreverent - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 2:58 pm:

    @40k

    Don’t worry. I can confirm he’s also preventing facts from being directed at you. It’s to avoid the comment section turning into a war zone.

  38. - Pundent - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 3:07 pm:

    =“I never learn anything from you folks”=

    Sometimes it’s the student, not the teachers.

  39. - Jocko - Friday, Jul 11, 25 @ 3:17 pm:

    ==It’s not a concentration camp==

    Um, that’s what FDR called the ten internment camps for Japanese Americans from 1942 to 1945.
