What A GREAT WAY TO START A DAY. Still remember a concert that they did at ChicagoFest ( 80s for the youngsters) Clearly the group appears to have devoted the next 40 years to clean livin’ and fitness.
Thanks for sharing. Pat Simmons is the best, personally as well as a songwriter. Around 1983 or so, my twin and I went to an outdoor concert with the Doobie Brothers as the main act. Needless to say, it was an outdoor concert, so my brother and I were feeling no pain. After the show, I lost track of Ric. When I finally caught up with him, he said he went backstage and bumped into Pat Simmons. Ric said they just talked for about 15-20 minutes, one on one. Ric said he was very nice and seemed interested in actually meeting a fan one-on-one.
I am currently performing South City Midnight Lady in my guitar repertoire, and hope to record it soon with my high school friend. Thanks again for sharing.

Meet me in the country for a day.
I don’t know what it is about that line, but it always gets me happy. It immediately gives me an image of a sunny summer day with tall windblow grass along a rural roadside lined with old weathered wooden fenceposts.
Coincidentally related, I was watching an old episode of “What’s Happening” from 1978 just a few days ago, and the Doobie Brothers were a big part of one of the episodes including many speaking parts. In part 2 of the episode there was a concert being put on by the Doobie brothers. Black Water, Takin it to the Streets, and Take me in Your Arms, were all performed.
The background plot of the episode involved illegally making bootleg copies of the concert.
https://www.gq.com/story/yacht-rock-icon-michael-mcdonald from his Steely Dan backing vocals to the Doobies and alone and with others, he was also very easy on the eyes.ah, the ’80s. Loved watching them all on the Tiny Desk concert, three lead vocals, still fun music.

As a huge fan of Good Times and the spin-off What’s Happening!!, I recall vividly the streams crossing as my mom’s band, The Doobie Brothers, guest starred on a special two episode What’s Happening!! Entitled “Doobie or not Doobie.”

For years, by which I do mean well into adulthood, my brain processed the lyrics as “woah-ohh-ohhhhh Mister Music” instead of “woah-ohh-ohhhhh Listen to the Music”, and despite knowing the correct name of the song, never bothered to correct this until the other half pointed it out during some unfortunate car karaoke 8 or 9 years ago.
What a treat. Thanks. Have been singing along to “Minute by Minute” while driving on these fine fall days.

Black Water was a big song when I was in college. One of those where it was so popular you eventually got sick of hearing it. Holds up nicely here though.
