Caption contest! (Updated x2)

Monday, Apr 13, 2026 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Please try to keep your comments humorous. Thanks in advance…

…Adding… I’ve asked state party chair Kathy Salvi for a response, as well as US Senate nominee Don Tracy and Jeanne Ives

I'm a Christian and I'm an Illinoisan. President Trump mocking a Chicago-born Pope and posting himself as Jesus Christ is wrong.

I don't care whose name is attached to it—I'll always call it like I see it.

Posted by Darren Bailey on Monday, April 13, 2026

Now that the party’s previously Trump-endorsed standard-bearer has weighed in, I suppose we can take the lid off of the humorous-only request. Your thoughts on Bailey’s statement?

…Adding… Former Rep. Jeanne Ives responded with “No comment.”

    Endorsed by Beldar Conehead.

That’s right. All 17 of you. You’re welcome.

  3. - Not again - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 12:56 pm:

Wish it wasn’t for such a weak pope.

  4. - Leo From Dolton - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 1:04 pm:

Glad it’s for such a great Pope. Go Sox

  5. - lake county democrat - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 1:05 pm:

And on the back it says “Hey Cubs: Han Perdido - they lost!”

  6. - here we go again - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 1:16 pm:

Tell the world Chicago is still an unsophisticated town of juvenile hayseeds at heart.

  7. - Arsenal - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 1:24 pm:

Good for Bailey. Obviously the politics make this an easy move for him, but still.

  8. - Baby Steps - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 1:30 pm:

In what many considered to be a decision too close to call, Bailey sides with Jesus over Trump.

  9. - Leatherneck - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 1:33 pm:

“Harry Caray was loaded that day in ‘84 when he claimed the Good Lord wanted the Cubs to win”

  10. - Streator Curmudgeon - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 1:34 pm:

Darren Bailey: “Do they have a pointy hat that says ‘John Deere’ on it?”

  11. - Davos - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 1:35 pm:

=In what many considered to be a decision too close to call, Bailey sides with Jesus over Trump.=

It took 1,539 days of Trump serving as President for him to have crossed a line.

  12. - Cubs4Lyfe - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 1:36 pm:

Refreshing. Do we really have a new Darren?

  13. - Streator Curmudgeon - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 1:36 pm:

Tad Dabrowski: “That hat would be fun to wear while I’m wonking policies.”

  14. - low level - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 1:38 pm:

Pope Derangement Syndrome (PDS) is on full display among many on the right. Glad to see Bailey has seen the light. Amen.

  15. - TSZilla - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 1:41 pm:

In nomine Patris et Filii et Spiritus White Sox

  16. - BE - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 1:46 pm:

Now that Trump has weaved what the picture was ‘actually’ of, will Bailey let Trump off the hook?

I forget if Bailey called Trump out when Trump posted a picture of himself as Pope, when the Conclave was happening.

  17. - Incandenza - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 1:47 pm:

On Bailey’s comment, it’s a somewhat hopeful sign, if only a glimmer, that the political incentives are starting to shift toward splitting with this current presidential administration.

  18. - Streator Curmudgeon - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 1:49 pm:

Bruce Rauner: “Hey, that hat would be great for smuggling a bottle of wine into the game.”

  19. - jackmac - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:01 pm:

The pope hats are awesome and I really want one.

But what I’d also like to see is some divine intervention for the Sox, who are already sitting at the bottom of MLB with a 6-10 record. That’s a pace for yet another 100-loss season.

  20. - Dotnonymous x - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:04 pm:

When you lose Darren Bailey…it’s over.

  21. - West Sider - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:05 pm:

Good for Bailey….. but the Most Republican Thing is to stand up and do the right thing- when it’s you or yours. He had no problems with attacks on anyone else’s religion. When it was Muslims, Catholics, Jews. Crickets.

  22. - btowntruth from forgottonia - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:05 pm:

Looks like Ives chose the more important religious figure in her life….and it appears to have an orange spray tan.

  23. - Ducky LaMoore - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:09 pm:

I confess… to almighty God, and to you my Sox brothers and sisters, our team greatly stinks, in their thoughts and in their words, in what they have done and what they have failed to do; through their fault, through their fault, through their most grievous fault; therefore I ask aged Jerry ever-owner, all of the hall of famers, and you my Sox brothers and sisters, to pray for wins to the Lord our God.

  24. - South of Sherman - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:11 pm:

Yes, we know that wearing this hat will keep people behind you from seeing what’s happening on the field. That’s a benefit we throw in at no extra cost.

  25. - DuPage Saint - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:16 pm:

Hat no hat, Pope no Pope, Sox still do not have a prayer

  26. - Frida's Boss - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:21 pm:

I want one of those Pope hats for sure.

Good on Bailey for saying something and calling it out.

  27. - 47th Ward - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:30 pm:

Soft on crime? There’ve been more shootings at Sox Park than st the Vatican in recent years.

  28. - Jocko - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:31 pm:

Not to be outdone, next month’s promotion is red shoes night.

  29. - Lurker - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:34 pm:

As a Catholic, I’m happy I got tickets to this game before it sold out. I mitre get to see a Sox win!

As for Bailey, good job on denouncing the Jesus post but you should have done the same when he depicted himself as the new Pope.

As for Ives, disgraceful in your silence.

  30. - Candy Dogood - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:36 pm:

Don’t worry, everyone. The Dear Leader has clarified that he thought he was sharing a picture of himself as a Red Cross Doctor and he doesn’t understand why the Fake News Media thinks it is Jesus.

  31. - Rudy’s teeth - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:36 pm:

Would be great if all the Dems in the House and Senate in Washington would wear the Pope Hat during the next session.
    Someone’s head would explode.
