Caption contest! (Updated x2)
Monday, Apr 13, 2026 - Posted by Rich Miller * Please try to keep your comments humorous. Thanks in advance…
…Adding… I’ve asked state party chair Kathy Salvi for a response, as well as US Senate nominee Don Tracy and Jeanne Ives…
Now that the party’s previously Trump-endorsed standard-bearer has weighed in, I suppose we can take the lid off of the humorous-only request. Your thoughts on Bailey’s statement? …Adding… Former Rep. Jeanne Ives responded with “No comment.”

Good for Bailey. Obviously the politics make this an easy move for him, but still.

In what many considered to be a decision too close to call, Bailey sides with Jesus over Trump.

=In what many considered to be a decision too close to call, Bailey sides with Jesus over Trump.=
It took 1,539 days of Trump serving as President for him to have crossed a line.

Refreshing. Do we really have a new Darren?

Now that Trump has weaved what the picture was ‘actually’ of, will Bailey let Trump off the hook?
I forget if Bailey called Trump out when Trump posted a picture of himself as Pope, when the Conclave was happening.
- Incandenza - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 1:47 pm:
On Bailey’s comment, it’s a somewhat hopeful sign, if only a glimmer, that the political incentives are starting to shift toward splitting with this current presidential administration.

Bruce Rauner: “Hey, that hat would be great for smuggling a bottle of wine into the game.”
- jackmac - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:01 pm:
The pope hats are awesome and I really want one.
But what I’d also like to see is some divine intervention for the Sox, who are already sitting at the bottom of MLB with a 6-10 record. That’s a pace for yet another 100-loss season.
- Dotnonymous x - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:04 pm:
When you lose Darren Bailey…it’s over.
- West Sider - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:05 pm:
Good for Bailey….. but the Most Republican Thing is to stand up and do the right thing- when it’s you or yours. He had no problems with attacks on anyone else’s religion. When it was Muslims, Catholics, Jews. Crickets.

Looks like Ives chose the more important religious figure in her life….and it appears to have an orange spray tan.

I confess… to almighty God, and to you my Sox brothers and sisters, our team greatly stinks, in their thoughts and in their words, in what they have done and what they have failed to do; through their fault, through their fault, through their most grievous fault; therefore I ask aged Jerry ever-owner, all of the hall of famers, and you my Sox brothers and sisters, to pray for wins to the Lord our God.
- South of Sherman - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:11 pm:
Yes, we know that wearing this hat will keep people behind you from seeing what’s happening on the field. That’s a benefit we throw in at no extra cost.
- DuPage Saint - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:16 pm:
Hat no hat, Pope no Pope, Sox still do not have a prayer
- Frida's Boss - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:21 pm:
I want one of those Pope hats for sure.
Good on Bailey for saying something and calling it out.

- Lurker - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:34 pm:
As a Catholic, I’m happy I got tickets to this game before it sold out. I mitre get to see a Sox win!
As for Bailey, good job on denouncing the Jesus post but you should have done the same when he depicted himself as the new Pope.
As for Ives, disgraceful in your silence.
- Candy Dogood - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 2:36 pm:
Don’t worry, everyone. The Dear Leader has clarified that he thought he was sharing a picture of himself as a Red Cross Doctor and he doesn’t understand why the Fake News Media thinks it is Jesus.

Would be great if all the Dems in the House and Senate in Washington would wear the Pope Hat during the next session.

CHICAGO - In what is already being called “The South Side Pope Riots”, last night’s White Sox game was halted in the bottom of the 4th inning and then forfeited by the home team only 10 minutes later.

White Sox complete unbelievable 40-3 run through the last 43 games of the season, ever since the “Pope Series” to actually win the AL Central by one game
- Leatherneck - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 3:25 pm:
I would like to see the Cardinals do a similar Pope Hat promotion in Cardinal colors at Busch during their Sox series Sept. 11-13.

Did I hear correctly that there has been a schism and the Pope’s brother is now endorsing Cubs Pope hats at Wrigley?
- Rudy’s teeth - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 4:07 pm:
The President pulled a Steve Bartman blunder with his comments about ‘da Pope. We won’t forget.

Nah…He’s just learning how to hold his mouth different…won’t be long until you hear him saying, “Let me begin by saying this about that.”
- Pundent - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 4:34 pm:
If Darren Bailey is telling us that the President’s recent comments are a bridge too far, he owes us the courtesy of saying why now? Because for a guy who always calls it like he sees it, he’s seen things very, very different in the past. There are a lot of us that have receipts.
- Garfield Ridge Guy - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 5:05 pm:
==If Darren Bailey is telling us that the President’s recent comments are a bridge too far, he owes us the courtesy of saying why now? ==
It’s a good idea to create incentives for people to say not-ridiculous things. One counter-incentive is “demanding people justify the incongruence of their non-ridiculous statements and past ridiculous statements.” Isn’t it better to say 10 wrong things and 1 right thing, than 11 wrong things?
- btowntruth from forgottonia - Monday, Apr 13, 26 @ 5:32 pm:
Rudy:
Don’t be so sure.
I’m seeing some people that claim their Catholic defending what Trump did and some of the defenses are truly warped.
