Thinking today about Jim Edgar and others we’ve lost to pancreatic cancer. The news about people surviving up to six years as a result of mRNA immunotherapy hopefully means this insidious disease is on the way out.
Rich,
Which alumni association? EIU’s or UIUC’s. It’s slightly comparable to renaming the UIS Campus, but this does put operational control in UIUC’s hands.
Since the UIS conversion (1995), enrollment has gone from 4,000 to 4,300. During that same period, EIU’s has gone from 11,400 to 8,500.
UIUC has huge demand, but with limitations (housing, facilities, etc.) on supply at their campus. EIU has declining demand with excess supply.
EIU can help alleviate the overseas demand and still keep UIUC as the flagship. Oversea students are willing to pay full boat to attend UIUC. I’m sure a requirement of 2 years at a UI-Charleston campus wouldn’t diminish that interest level.

EIU enrollment continues to decline. Here’s my idea for their future.
They are approximately 1 hour from Champaign. The UIUC campus is busting at the seams, with demand outpacing supply, particularly from oversees.
Why not merge the EIU campus into UIUC and require foreign students to complete two years of study on the EIU campus before moving to Champaign.
This fully utilizes the EIU infrastructure, expands the international program, while reducing the burden on the UIUC campus.

Always loved this tune. My preference is for the John Lennon original.

The alumni association would probably have thoughts, and not good ones.
