Crosstown Series open thread
Monday, May 18, 2026 - Posted by Rich Miller * Wow…
We’re relaxing our usual “uncivil” constraints on comments today. No profanity, racism, etc. of course. But, otherwise, go for it. Consider this a post where you can let off some steam. But, just remember, I’ll eventually dive in. After all, I could use an outlet as well…
Heh.

I don’t know how long the White Sox can keep playing above .500 but I’m enjoying the ride. American League is bad so who knows?
Also, for Dave Kaplan, Colson Montgomery is better than Dansby Swanson.
- DEE - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 8:16 am:
Enjoy for now. 8/17/2026 isn’t far away
- hisgirlfriday - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 8:20 am:
I have been enjoying the “217 Problems” Sam Antonacci memes from this series, in particular, the one about him taking all his teammates to all the Dollar Generals in Springfield and no longer being allowed to plan off day activities.
As a Cubs fan, the first game was more enjoyable than the last two but it’s fun to have a competitive series again
- Steve Rogers - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 8:36 am:
@hisgirlfriday: +1. They were all really funny, but I particularly enjoyed the Casey’s and getting pizza from a gas station.
- Jakita Wagner - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 8:42 am:
That win won’t mean quite as much once they play the same game in Nashville.
- Osborne Smith III - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 8:42 am:
If he hasn’t already, PCA will be hearing from Rob Manfred’s office about his little exchange with the fan.
- MadCo disease - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 8:56 am:
Not to mention the atmosphere at Busch this weekend from the “Tarps Off” crew taking over multiple sections. Great weekend for baseball overall.
- JS Mill - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 9:22 am:
Watched my first baseball in over two years in the last three weeks and made sure to tune in over the weekend.
Pure joy.
Cubs fans throwing the typical hissy meant pure joy x infinity.
- Three Dimensional Checkers - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 9:31 am:
Edgar Quero has been riding the struggle bus all season, but he focused in a big spot and cranked the game winning home run. Great persistence.
PCA is such a baby. I remember a game in the early 2000s against the Twins, sitting in the bleachers, and people were giving Tori Hunter a little guff. He just robbed a home run the next inning, looked up at everyone, and basically said “what now guys?” Great fun. Huge contrast to PCA’s nonsense.
- Cool Papa Bell - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 9:32 am:
Walked in and turned on the radio to hear the Conforto HR. Pure joy. Continued to listen as I made dinner. The joy left my body.
I don’t hate the Sox. Grew up with too many Sox fans to dislike them and they were in the other league anyway.
Its great when Chicago has two teams playing good baseball - hope it continues all season. I would not however root for the Sox to win another World Series.
- Grandson of Man - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 9:51 am:
It’s early in the year and they’re a young team, but the Sox have an attitude and confidence of championship type teams. Fantastic game and a great ending for this household of Sox fans.
- Rahm's Parking Meter - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 9:53 am:
I am a Cubs fan.
Congrats Sox fans. See you at Wrigley.
- jackmac - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 10:00 am:
I’ve worn my White Sox hat through the depths of recent horrible seasons. These days I finally don’t have to cringe when I put it on!
- It's Just a Pill - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 10:03 am:
PCA got bodied by Colleen from Mt. Greenwood and it was hilarious
- Stu - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 10:26 am:
Both bullpens can cause some major heartache
- New Day - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 10:27 am:
I was at two of the three games. I love that the Sox are finally competitive again after three of the worst seasons in the history of Major League Baseball. The atmosphere was electric and it was awesome regardless of the outcome.
That said, yesterday we were seated near the Cubs dugout and let’s just say the Sox fans were incredibly nasty and uncivil. Yea, I get it, you guys have always been wildly jealous of the love the Cubs get from Chicago (and Cubs fans show up all over the country) and the constantly full Wrigley Field. But geez guys, these are human beings too. Maybe don’t be going after players (and in PCA’s case his Mom) in such a nasty way. When you read the story about what happened in the outfield you realize that the woman from Mt. Greenwood had been planning to go after PCA for months. Good grief. Get a life and a little perspective Sox fans.
- JS Mill - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 10:28 am:
Hat tip to @Cool Papa Bell and @Rahm’s Parking Meter
This is how fan rivalry is done well. And fun. I feel the same just reversed.
- New Day - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 10:29 am:
Oh, and to be clear, my comments about PCA are not because I think he should be coddled. Trust me when I say this, most real Cubs fan are far more PO’d at PCA than anybody from the South Side.
- Trinity - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 10:38 am:
On Saturday, it was great to be in the stadium and see both Cubs and Sox fans unite by saying Green Bay sucks! Definitely an unforgettable moment in Chicago Sports History!
- Three Dimensional Checkers - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 11:09 am:
Fans talk, players play. You want to shut the fans up, make the catch. I know people say horrible things about Tristen Peters (played for the Savannah Bananas) or Reese McGuire (looked it up), but you do not see them mouthing off in the same way. The double standard exists because they are league minimum players who can be cut or sent to AAA at any minute.
- Friendly Bob Adams - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 11:46 am:
I haven’t had this much fun watching the White Sox since who knows when.
It doesn’t matter what happens the rest of the season. This was truly a pleasure in itself.
- Peoria Pete - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 11:56 am:
Great 3 games, hard to beat when both teams good and competitive
- lake county democrat - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 2:04 pm:
What kind of trash talking is this?! I could eat off this page!
Cubs should just hand Getz their payroll, since they won’t be needing it.
- Johnny O - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 2:04 pm:
Is Rich a Sox fan????
- Rich Miller - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 2:09 pm:
===What kind of trash talking is this?! I could eat off this page! ===
Kinda surprising, considering the throwdowns of the past.
- Shoeless Joe - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 2:36 pm:
Cubs left so many runners on base in their two losses to the the White Sox.
- Bogey Golfer - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 3:35 pm:
Long time Sox fan in a “mixed marriage”. When both teams are playing well, the games take a playoff feel. I hope they both continue their success when they meet later this year at Wrigley.
- Boone Logan Square - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 6:21 pm:
Imagine a World Series between these teams. It’s been 120 years, but both would be in the playoffs if the season ended today.
- Frida's Boss - Monday, May 18, 26 @ 7:00 pm:
Cubs s$%k. It’s literally a bar where people go to get boozed up and don’t really care about the game.
At least the woman from Mt. Greenwood knows ball.
The typical Cub fan mom from Schaumburg would only use that language when yelling at 15-year-old referees in her son’s 7U tball game, because Chad wasn’t getting the calls.
Watch Bill Burr’s takedown of Billy Corgan. Elite-level trolling of the Cubs, Wrigleyville, and the whole vibe.
Makes sense since Billy is from Glen Ellyn, Vedder is from Evanston, Murray is from Wilmette, and Cusack is another Evanston wanna-be Chicago-ite.
Is that better, Rich?

Much.
