I really liked the idea of an independent candidate, until I found out who he was and that he earns a living in part advising school districts on how to maximize the size of the bond issue they can get voters to approve while ostensibly being “neutral.”
Del Mar, with reasonable funding, would beat Bailey in a general right now , on the merits. Why he linked up is a mystery — to get some name recognition, I guess.

I would appreciate members of the media asking candidates seeking office in November their position on SB 4333. This bill would reduce the blood alcohol content for Driving under the influence to .05 from .08. This was recommended by the National Traffic Safety Board in 2009.
There is a finite amount of fun to be had in every situation and Collin has decided he wants to have all of it. I am so glad to have tickets to this farce.

Wait— does Darren think he has a path to victory?!?
There is a reason why independent candidates have such a high ballot access bar in Illinois - if done properly, they can win things. This is due mostly to the incompetence of the IL GOP.
Regardless, I will be keeping an eye on Michigan. The best candidate for governor there is running as an independent but having some issues.
Would not surprise me if Rahm wound up taking this route in his presidential campaign.

Sounds like a nice place to buy a macrame plant holder.

These are the types of Republicans that can get elected in Illinois. Yet this brand of Republican is rejected by primary voters. So, around and around we go, with Bailey style candidates, who rise like Chinese Lanterns, only to spectacularly go down in flames once once the political winds of the general election start blowing. It’s a sad state of affairs.
===These are the types of Republicans that can get elected in Illinois.===
Yeah — you gotta be able to avoid saying the quiet part out loud, do illegal things politely, and pretend like screwing over the future taxpayers of the state is fiscally sound and conservative policy.
===Judy Barr Topinka===
I do want to make it clear that the above isn’t talking about Judy Barr Topinka and no one reading my statement would think it was.
Bailey knows he’s going to lose. A third party candidate will make that loss more pronounced. That’s what’s got him agitated. And when he does lose he’ll blame the loss squarely on Collin Corbett.
Corbett turned in roughly 40,000 signatures. He should make the ballot unless he has a lot of sheets that can be stricken because the Circulator previously circulated for Democrats or Republicans
There is a scenario where Corbett helps Bailey. That is, if there are a number of voters who don’t really like Pritzker but could never bring themselves to vote for Bailey so they would have held their noses and voted JB. Corbett gives them another option
Guessing he is trying to raise money on the whole ‘I need to fight this independent guy’ thing perhaps? Not sure what complaining about what you can’t control does for you. I would also point out if you think this guy can take half your vote, then folks were not really that into you in the first place.
DIdn’t even know about the guy until now, and visiting his website that seems to have nothing on it besides a fundraising page, I still don’t know anything about the guy.

Exactly. Such a dumb thing to say.

Bailey just walked into a minefield and had to tapdance. Have no idea who Corbett is, but this could be interesting, although I doubt anyone can be JB. “Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends…” - Emerson, Lake, & Palmer, “Karn Evil 9: First Impressions, Part 2 (1974)

If an independent candidate can just get on the ballot and get 20-25% of the vote, why are taxpayers paying for primaries?
